AJLC2019 day one recap and updated schedule

Rain ruled on day one of the 2019 Australian Junior League Championship in Adelaide on Sunday.

Just one game was completed, with another suspended, following steady rain at West Beach.

A revised schedule for the remainder of the week has been set with tomorrow and Tuesday’s games moved to nearby Glenelg Baseball Club (Anderson Ave, Glenelg).

The tournament will return to West Beach on Wednesday.

Southern Mariners 22, Canberra 0 | Box Score

Thomas Yuile homered as the Southern Mariners overpowered Canberra 22-0 in their Pool C opener on diamond one.

Yuile blasted a two-run shot in the top of the second and Tom Brookes drove in four runs on four hits for the Mariners.

Southern scored four runs in the first and went 9-0 up on Yuile’s homer in the second.

A 12-run fourth capped off an impressive game one performance.

Charlie Pierson and Tyler Ellis joined Brookes with multi-hit games.

Mariners’ starting pitcher Lachlan Smith struck out four in two scoreless innings and Wesley Ka punched out three batters in the fourth.

William Paddison collected Canberra’s hit.

 

Gold Coast Cougars led 10-5 when their clash with Newcastle Eagles was suspended on diamond one.

Day two action will begin at 9am at Glenelg Baseball Club, Anderson Ave.
