Victorian Masters Carnival: enter now

Kingsley Collins, Tuesday, 2 March 2010
Time and tide wait for no man, old mates……and it’s certainly the moment to declare your intentions – if you have not done so already – in regard to this year’s Victorian Masters Carnival.

It’s the fourteenth year of this unique event, which was born in Ballarat back in an earlier millennium.

1997 to be precise, when baseball guys who we were and who we rightly perceived even then as old codgers turned up to play in a four team series – over four days – with the Golddiggers taking the spoils over Fitzroy, Geelong and Latrobe Valley.

Plenty has changed since then, of course. A few hip replacements, couple of new wheelchairs, tribes of enkelkinder (and – gasp - even some great grandchildren), a somewhat changed society and a return to wooden bats (for all) and pinstripes (for some).

And the venue has changed.

Since 2003, the Carnival has been held at the magnificent Geelong Baseball Centre, with the numbers of teams – and participants – continuing to swell as baseball leads the way in Masters sport throughout the land.

This year’s series will run from Friday 9 April through to Sunday 11 April.

Two age divisions have been offered – 35 plus and 45 plus. It is expected that at least six teams will be entered in each.

The closing date for team entries will be Friday 19 March. While eligible individual players might be added to squads after that date, organisers obviously need final team entries to proceed with the draw and other scheduling arrangements.

More information on the Victorian Masters – including history, rules and registration information - is available on the Geelong Baseball Association website.

To enter, contact GBA President Fiona Lambrick on 0417 310628 0r email flambrick@iprimus.com.au.

But don’t let it slip your mind, huh? Do it now.
