2019/20 VSBL Season Division Three Round Two

The 2019/20 VSBL Division 3 season continues to showcase fantastic community baseball as Chelsea, Ormond Glenhuntly, Springvale, Pakenham and North Western Titans pursue their premiership goals. Sitting atop the Division 3 ladder is Springvale, recently relegated from Division 2 and eager to have a better season than their last. Springvale and Ormond Glenhuntly Blue are leading the way in the reserves. There's still plenty of Division 3 action to look forward to with 17 rounds remaining in the regular season. 

Division 3 Firsts

Chelsea Dolphins vs. Ormond Glenhuntly Blue

The Dolphins struggled to hit against the Hunters as OGH - Blue won their first game of the season. Shane Jeffrey had a pair of hits for Chelsea but six unearned runs put a dent in the Dolphins' quest for victory. Rhys Tippett had a pair of base hits and Matt Hannan singled in Chelsea's loss. Chelsea hosts North Western Titans at home and OGH - Blue squares off against their fellow Hunters in round three. 


Ormond Glenhuntly Gold vs. Springvale Lions

The Lions were in high spirits after winning their second straight game, thanks to a great performance from pitcher Tim Hanson who struck out five in five innings while giving up just one hit. Hanson also had a single and a double for an RBI at the plate. 

Springvale took an early 4-0 lead and never looked back, relying on the impressive hitting efforts of Scott Baillie. He collected a pair of hits, a walk and an RBI while also covering two scoreless innings in relief on the mound with just one hit allowed. Lucas Price smashed two doubles to knock in a pair of runs and Matt Cameron contributed 2 RBIs as well. 

Rydge Hogan had an RBI single, while teammates Adam Thatcher, Chris Davies and Lili Cavanagh also got in on the hitting action. Springvale will set their sights on another dominant win on Sunday vs. Pakenham at home.

Pakenham Pumas vs. North Western Titans

The Pumas fought hard last week, but the reigning premiers finished their first game in a draw vs. OGH Blue. Determined to avoid another draw, the Pumas pounced early on the Titans, chipping away to put the game in their favour. Now 1-1-, Pakenham will look to add another win to their record when they visit Springvale on the weekend, while North Western has the chance to get a win on the board against Chelsea.

OGH - Blue was on a roll Sunday, racking up the runs to ensure a 2-0 start to the season. The Hunters have scored 23 runs and allowed just four in the first two games of the season, and they will look to maintain their outstanding hitting efforts in round three and beyond.

The Lions battled relentlessly to win their second game of the season, overcoming the Hunters to get the job done. Springvale and OGH - Blue remain undefeated in the reserves, something the Lions will hope to preserve this weekend against Pakenham.

Pakenham and North Western fought hard to avoid a draw, but neither team could break free in the final moments to get a victory on the board. Both sides have one loss and one draw on the season, something they will hope to change when the weekend comes around as they face Springvale and Chelsea, respectively.
