2023 BV All-Girls Winter Invitational - Day 1 Recap

The 2023 BV All-Girls Winter Invitational got underway on Saturday at Strathfieldsaye Dodgers Baseball Club with an awesome display of girls baseball.

BV Royals 11, BV Cubs 9

Cubs got on the board with five runs in the first but Royals kept up the pressure, scoring one in the first before five-run innings in both the second and the third.

Cubs scored four in the third but fell just short of Royals as both sides finished with five hits. Mia Llewellyn and Leah Antonacci had two apiece for Cubs as Saya Turnley knocked in two with a big hit and a walk.

Royals hits came off the bats of Mia Wilkinson, Eloise Holden, Andie Torcasio, Sophie Bird, and Hannah Wilson-Powell.

Saya Turnley pitched an inning for Cubs with one hit, one run, one walk, and two strikeouts. Lila Atkinson, Evangelynn Lane, and Alicia Tyrell also took turns on the mound.

For the Royals, Blair Murphy, Lily Byrne, Alanah Rose, and Eloise Holden combined for five strikeouts.

North Eastern 10, BV Braves 5

Both teams scored five runs in the first, but North Eastern pulled away with another five in the second.

Macy Priamo doubled to start the game for BV Braves, followed by a string of hit by pitches and walks to give them the lead.

North Eastern's first-inning offense included singles by Makayla Pool and Makiah McCallum, boosted by a few base on balls. Matilda Baker singled in North Eastern's five-run second, too.

BV Braves loaded the bases in the top of the third but North Eastern got a few key outs to seal the deal. McCallumw got the win on the mound with two hits, five runs, and three strikeouts.

Priamo had two hits to lead BV Braves while Samara McCallum, Makiah McCallum, Makayla Pool, Matilda Baker, and Ayla McCallum collected North Eastern's hits.

BV Royals 13, North Eastern 3

BV Royals opened with four runs and kept up the pressure throughout the game. Mia Wilkinson, Ruby Benne, Eloise Holden, Josie Wright, and Sophie Bird picked up hits and RBIs.

Benne pitched Royals to victory, covering two innings with three hits, three runs, and five strikeouts.

Sophie Berry struck out four during her time on the mound for North Eastern, with Charlotte Kenny and Samara McCallum also taking turns on the mound.

Kenny, Mollie Wayenberg, and Makiah McCallum had hits for North Eastern.

BV Cubs 11, BV Braves 8

Braves had a 5-2 lead at the end of the first and scored another three in the top of the second, but Cubs got the job done with more runs in the final innings.

Leah Antonacci, Maddy Haynes, and Evangelynn Lane led the Cubs in hits with one apiece as Macy Priamo, Madeleine Saunders, Lilly Simpson, Sarah Rogers, and Georgia Lovell collected hits for Braves.

Teagan Hando joined Rogers and Martin in pitching for Braves while Alexandra Egan, Mia Llewellyn, and Leah Antonacci threw for Cubs.

BV Braves 15, BV Royals 9

BV Braves put up five runs in each inning although BV Royals fought back with nine runs in the second. Royals lost despite outhitting Braves 5-3.

Andie Torcasio and Alanah Rose both had 2-RBI hits for Royals, while Sophie Bird, Mia Wilkinson, and Ruby Benne also collected hits.

Phoebe Martin, Lilly Simpson, and Sarah Rogers had hits for Braves. Pitcher Macy Priamo gave up two hits, two runs, and a walk with four strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Martin pitched in relief.

For Royals, Torcasio gave up three earned runs on two hits with a strikeout. Wilkinson put in work on the mound, too.
