Step Up to the Plate: Expressions of Interest Open for Baseball Victoria’s Pride Round.
Baseball Victoria is partnering with Pride Cup to host a Pride Round across multiple weekends to allow all clubs to host, and we’re looking for clubs keen to take part.
Why it matters:
80% of Australians have witnessed or experienced homophobia while playing or watching sport. Too many LGBTIQ+ people are being pushed out of sport or feel they have to hide who they are. A Pride Round sends a clear message that everyone belongs in sport.
The impact:
• For your members: A Monash University and VicHealth evaluation found that clubs that have hosted a Pride Cup show 40–50% less homophobic behaviour than clubs that haven’t.
• For player retention: People stay where they feel safe and valued. When LGBTIQ+ players, umpires, volunteers and fans feel welcome, they keep playing and keep coming back, and so do their families and friends.
• For the wider community: Clubs are the heart of local communities. The benefits flow beyond the diamond, making our neighbourhoods safer and more inclusive.
What’s involved:
Pride Cup will support participating clubs with FREE game-day guidance, an organiser handbook, a free LGBTIQ+ inclusion education session for your club and promotion across Pride Cup’s channels.
