Baseball Victoria
30 July 2015

Seventy-five promising young baseball players will chase their big league dreams at the highly acclaimed MLB Australian Academy Program (MLBAAP) on the Gold Coast from 1st August.

The Academy, conducted in collaboration with Major League Baseball, was created in 2001 to help young baseball talent from Australia and the Oceania region develop the tools necessary to progress towards a career in professional baseball within the Major League Baseball system.

Players prepare and train for pre camp conditioning over eight weeks with their State High Performance Academy and then report for camp (Aug 1st) for intensive training and games six days a week over three weeks under the guidance of former Major Leaguers and Team Australia coaching staff including Jon Deeble, Graeme Lloyd and Glenn Williams, with MLB scouts from several teams monitoring their progress.

In addition, five players from the MLB Development Centres in China will participate in the Academy. Earlier this month, Guiyuan “Itchy” Xu signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles to become the first player from a Development Centres to sign with a Major League Club.
