7.40pm Firebirds open #AJLC2018 account

Pool C result: Central Firebirds 15, Ryde Hawks 2

Central Firebirds opened their #AJLC2018 account with a 15-2 win over Ryde Hawks in the final Day 2 game on Diamond 1.

The Firebirds scored five runs in the third and nine in the fourth to claim an impressive win.

Connor Chehab led the way with four runs batted in, and also made a stunning diving play at first base.

Caleb Goodwin and Will Truscott also drove in a pair of runs.

Reliever Stephen Norman struck out four in two scoreless innings.

Michael Blundy collected two hits for the Hawks.

Central Firebirds opened their #AJLC2018 account with a 15-2 win over Ryde Hawks in the final Day 2 game on Diamond 1.

The Firebirds scored five runs in the third and nine in the fourth to claim an impressive win.

Connor Chehab led the way with four runs batted in, and also made a stunning diving play at first base.

Caleb Goodwin and Will Truscott also drove in a pair of runs.

Reliever Stephen Norman struck out four in two scoreless innings.

7.20pm Hills remain unbeaten after Day 2

Pool A result: Hills 14, Brisbane North 2

Clayton Campbell drove home three runs as Hills maintained its perfect record in Pool A at #AJLC2018.

Hills improved their record to 2-0 ahead of tomorrow’s final Pool A game, topping Brisbane North 14-2.

Brisbane North scored first but Hills took little time to respond.

They scored three runs in the bottom of the first and nine in the second.

Campbell drove in three runs and homered in the second inning after Stephen Courtney went deep to lead off the inning.

Eddie Crotty drove in Brisbane Metro’s run.

5.15pm Athletics secure vital Pool D win

Pool D result: Eastern Athletics 18, Far North Coast 5

Eastern Athletics picked up their first win of #AJLC2018, downing Far North Coast 18-5 on Day 2 at West Beach.

The Athletics bounced back from a loss to Macarthur in their Pool D opener to clinch a crucial win.

Charlie O’Connell homered and finished with three runs batted in, while Jimin Lee also drove in three as Eastern’s offence heated up.

They racked up 23 hits in total.

Lee accounted for four of them and Keeley Ronalds-Greatbach and Lochlann O’Connor three each.

Cain McClelland had two hits for Far North Coast.

Eastern Athletics picked up their first win of #AJLC2018, downing Far North Coast 18-5 on Day 2 at West Beach.

4.45pm Waves stay perfect at #AJLC2018

Pool B result: Adelaide Waves 11, Northern Metros 9

Adelaide Waves improved their #AJLC2018 Pool B record to 2-0 with a hard-fought win over Northern Metros on Diamond 2.

The Waves scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead and held on to win 11-9.

Northern Metros threatened in the bottom of the fifth, with Ben Bird driving in a couple of runs and Jackson Park and Jack Wintergreene also delivering RBI-singles.

Oscar Weber starred for Adelaide, collecting four hits.

Westdijk, Tyson Schunke and Zac Becker each finished with a couple of RBIs.

Becker also closed the door for the Waves with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

Pool D result: Swan Hills Aces 14, Macarthur 4

Maddux Stivey’s fifth-inning grand slam lifted Swan Hills Aces to a 14-4 Pool D victory over Macarthur on Day 2 of #AJLC2018.

Stivey’s slam – his fifth homer of #AJLC2018 – capped off a five-run rally from the Aces that put them in the lead.

Kai Cahill went deep in the fifth and Swan Hills

Earlier, Macarthur built a 4-1 lead on Tyrone Fergie’s RBI-single and a pair of RBIs from Damian Eagles.

Maddux Stivey’s fifth-inning grand slam lifted Swan Hills Aces to a 14-4 Pool D victory over Macarthur on Day 2 of #AJLC2018.

Stivey’s slam – his fifth homer of #AJLC2018 – capped off a five-run rally from the Aces that put them in the lead.

1.20pm Wallace leads Brisbane Metro to victory

Pool B result: Brisbane Metros 12, Cronulla 1

Starter Callum Wallace threw a no-hitter and Ben Walmsley drove in four runs as Brisbane Metro recorded an impressive win over Cronulla.

Wallace struck out eight in five innings and Metro’s offence blew the game open with a nine-run fourth to notch a 12-1 win in the Pool B #AJLC2018 contest.

Cronulla scored first on the back of a first-inning walk and error before Brisbane’s offence came to life in the fourth.

Walmsley put Metro on top with a two-run double and they doubled the lead on Jock Millar’s two-run single.

Billy Richters drove home a couple of runners on a double and Walmsley plated another run as Brisbane Metro batted around.

12.00pm Mariners knock off Pirates in offensive duel

Pool C result: Southern Mariners 20, Adelaide Pirates 10

Nick Bertucci homered three times as the Southern Mariners collected their second Pool C win at #AJLC2018, taking down Adelaide Pirates 20-10 on Diamond 1.

The Mariners pulled away with a seven-run fifth after the Pirates recovered from an early five-run deficit to pull level.

Bertucci’s two-run homer – his third of the afternoon – capped off the seven-run frame for Southern.

Earlier, he led off the second with a solo shot and blasted a two-run shot in the third.

Starter James Lynch was also impressive.

Lynch struck out eight in 3 1/3 innings and went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

Jordan Hodges and Bradley Przibella drove in a pair of runs each for the Pirates.

 

Nick Bertucci homered three times as the Southern Mariners collected their second Pool C win at #AJLC2018, taking down Adelaide Pirates 20-10 on Diamond 1.

The Mariners pulled away with a seven-run fifth after the Pirates recovered from an early five-run deficit to pull level.

Bertucci’s two-run homer – his third of the afternoon – capped off the seven-run frame for Southern.

Earlier, he led off the second with a solo shot and blasted a two-run shot in the third.

10.45am Twins improve to 2-0 in Pool A

Pool A result: Twins 18, Canberra 0

Twins put up 11 runs in the third to down Canberra for their second win in Pool A of #AJLC2018.

After two scoreless frames, the Twins broke the game open with a big third inning and went on to win 18-0 on Diamond 2.

Nikau Pouaka-Grego’s RBI-double opened the scoring ahead of Jaycob Pascuzzi doubling the advantage.

Twins then used some small-ball to extend their advantage further

Pouaka-Grego and Pascuzzi drove in more runs as the Twins batted around.

Pascuzzi was also solid on the mound, striking out six and not giving up a hit in three innings.

Twins put up 11 runs in the third to down Canberra for their second win in Pool A of #AJLC2018.
