8.45pm The schedule is set for Day 6 of #AJLC2018

Here are the eight matchups that will decide the final standings at #AJLC2018. Hills and Macarthur will fight for gold and the right to represent Australia Region at the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan, later this year.

These eight matchups will decide where the 16 #AJLC2018 teams finish ... and who represents Australia Region at the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan!

8.30pm Mariners clinch spot in fifth-place playoff

Consolation game 10 result: Southern Mariners 22, Brisbane Metro 3

Southern Mariners will play for fifth spot at #AJLC2018 after recording an impressive 22-3 win over Brisbane Metro on Day 5.

Starter Genevieve Beacom allowed just one hit in four innings and the Mariners’ offence exploded in the fifth, piling on 16 runs.

James Lynch had four hits -  including three doubles - and drove in six runs.

Tyler Ellis drove in three runs.

The Mariners will play Adelaide Pirates for fifth spot.


Southern Mariners will play for fifth spot at #AJLC2018 after recording an impressive 22-3 win over Brisbane Metro on Day 5.

Starter Genevieve Beacom allowed just one hit in four innings and the Mariners’ offence exploded in the fifth, piling on 16 runs.

7.35pm Macarthur punch ticket to Championship Game against Hills

Semi-final two result: Macarthur 6, Twins 2

Macarthur will face Hills in the #AJLC2018 gold medal game after toppling Twins 6-2 in the second semi-final on Day 5.

Tyrone Fergie worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out eight, while Damian Eagles, Bailey Senior and Owen Glover drove in crucial runs.

Macarthur opened the scoring in the first, scoring on a hit by pitch and Senior groundball.

They added a third run an inning later when Eagles doubled to left field.

Nikau Pouaka-Grego’s two-run homer for Twins in the third cut the lead to one run.

A Glover single and error helped Macarthur restore a three-run buffer before Eagles drove in his second run of the night.

The gold medal game starts at 5.30pm (local time) and will be broadcast on ABLtv.com.

Twins will face Swan Hills Aces in the bronze medal game from 2.45pm.

5.30pm Pirates top Waves in wild South Australian shootout

Consolation game nine result: Adelaide Pirates 15, Adelaide Waves 13

Adelaide Pirates overcame Adelaide Waves in a wild showdown between the two South Australian charters at #AJLC2018.

The Pirates raced to a 6-0 lead in the first, gave it up just as quickly, and then pulled away again to record a 15-13 victory on Diamond 2.

Sebastian Heintze-Unger led the Pirates with five hits, batting in a couple of runs.

Jet Clohessy had four RBIs and Matthew George finished with three.

Archie Lovelock, Tyson Schunke and Liam Westdijk drove in a couple of runs each for the Waves.

The Pirates will play for fifth spot tomorrow.

4.45pm Hills advance to #AJLC2018 gold medal game

Semi-final one result: Hills 9, Swan Hills Aces 1

Clayton Campbell struck out 15 and Stephen Courtney homered as Hills booked its spot in the #AJLC2018 presented by Bendigo Bank gold medal game.

Campbell was dominant on the mound as Hills continued its unbeaten event with a 9-1 semi-final win over Swan Hills Aces on Diamond 1.

After giving up an unearned run in the first inning, Campbell stifled the Aces’ bats.

He gave up just two hits in six innings.

Hills’ offence gave him a lead to work with, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first.

They added two runs in the second and Courtney homered in the fourth to extend Hills’ lead to eight runs.

Hills will play the winner of tonight’s second semi-final between Twins and Macarthur.

2.40pm Eight-run first lifts Northern Metros over Brisbane North

Consolation game seven result: Northern Metros 14, Brisbane North 6

Northern Metros scored eight runs in the first to conquer Brisbane North 14-6 and move into a 13th-place playoff at #AJLC2018.

Tyler Jones led the Metros’ offence, driving in three runs on a couple of hits.

Tyson Le Quesne homered for Northern, launching a solo shot to extend their lead to 12-4 in the top of the sixth.

All up the Metros tallied 15 hits, including four extra-base knocks.

Joel Hogan went deep for Brisbane North.

Northern Metros scored eight runs in the first to conquer Brisbane North 14-6 and move into a 13th-place playoff at #AJLC2018.

Tyler Jones led the Metros’ offence, driving in three runs on a couple of hits.

1.35pm Lee stars on the mound for Eastern Athletics

Consolation game eight result: Eastern Athletics 12, Ryde Hawks 2

Jimin Lee tossed five standout innings as Eastern Athletics advanced to an #AJLC2018 ninth-place playoff against Cronulla tomorrow.

Lee struck out eight and allowed just one hit in five innings as the Athletics downed Ryde Hawks 12-2 on Diamond 1.

Ethan Scalzo and Nicholas Parton both homered to power Eastern’s offence.

Scalzo opened the scoring with a solo shot in the first and Parton added a two-run blast in the third.

Jimin Lee tossed five standout innings as Eastern Athletics advanced to an #AJLC2018 ninth-place playoff against Cronulla tomorrow.

Lee struck out eight and allowed just one hit in five innings as the Athletics downed Ryde Hawks 12-2 on Diamond 1.

11.50am Cronulla heading to ninth-place playoff

Consolation game five result: Cronulla 17, Central Firebirds 7

Cronulla overpowered Central Firebirds to advance to tomorrow’s #AJLC2018 ninth-place playoff.

Jake Quinlivan led the way with four hits as Cronulla took the lead in the third and never looked back, winning 17-7 on Diamond 2.

Nathan Howarth and Jye Burns each drove in three runs for Cronulla.

Howarth also struck out four after starting on the mound.

Jake Parkes had three RBIs and struck out a couple of hitters for the Firebirds.

Cronulla overpowered Central Firebirds to advance to tomorrow’s #AJLC2018 ninth-place playoff.

Jake Quinlivan led the way with four hits as Cronulla took the lead in the third and never looked back, winning 17-7 on Diamond 2.

11.00am Far North Coast collect first win of #AJLC2018

Consolation game six result: Far North Coast 11, Canberra 6

Far North Coast will playoff for 13th spot at #AJLC2018 after defeating Canberra for its first win of the tournament on Day 5.

FNC turned a 2-1 deficit into a five-run lead in the third on their way to an 11-6 win on Diamond 1.

George Cooper led Far North Coast’s offence, finishing with three runs batted in.

Reece Gallagher struck out three in one inning of relief work.

Rohan McDonough drove in a pair of runs for Canberra.

Canberra will battle for 15th spot tomorrow.

Far North Coast will playoff for 13th spot at #AJLC2018 after defeating Canberra for its first win of the tournament on Day 5.

FNC turned a 2-1 deficit into a five-run lead in the third on their way to an 11-6 win on Diamond 1.

George Cooper led Far North Coast’s offence, finishing with three runs batted in.

Reece Gallagher struck out three in one inning of relief work.

Rohan McDonough drove in a pair of runs for Canberra.

Canberra will battle for 15th spot tomorrow.

 

8.30am Just over 30 minutes until play starts on Day 5

Central Firebirds and Cronulla open the Day 5 action at #AJLC2018 from 9am local time on Diamond 2. The winner will progress to tomorrow's ninth-place playoff. Follow the action here. Meanwhile, Canberra and Far North Coast get underway on Diamond 1 from 9.15am. Both teams are winless but have shown they elusive victory is not fay away. Welcome to our Day 5 coverage of #AJLC2018 presented by Bendigo Bank! We're down to four teams in the battle to see who will represent Australia Region at the 2018 Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan, later this year. Hills and Swan Hills Aces will square off in the first semi-final, followed by Twins and Macarthur. We also have a stack of consolation games which will set up tomorrow's placing playoffs.
