ANNOUNCED: 2015 Junior League Dates and Venue

Baseball Victoria
08 December 2014

In an Australian first, the National Junior League Championships will be held from 4th-9th April, 2015, at Surfers Paradise Baseball Club on the Gold Coast, Queensland.  The event is supported by City of Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise Baseball Club.

This is the first time the Junior League competition will be held in Australia, following a restructure of the Championship pathway in line with Little League International.

The Championships will feature 16 All-Star Junior League teams from across Australia over the six-day tournament.  The winning team will have the opportunity to participate in the Asia Pacific Championships with travel fully funded.  The winner of the Asia Pacific Championships will then progress to play in the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan.

BA General Manager, Justin Drew, explained the decision to add Junior League to the baseball pathway in Australia.

“Over the next year, all levels of Little League International will be implemented in Australia.  This structure gives more opportunities for players to participate in tournaments locally, nationally and around the world.  We are looking forward to seeing how this pathway will impact the growth of baseball throughout Australia," he said.

“The partnership between Baseball Australia and the City of Gold Coast has given us the opportunity to host a major national championship on the Gold Coast and we’re appreciative of it.”

Junior League is an extension of Little League, acting as a bridge to transition from Little League to the next level.  It is played on a 80 to 90 foot diamond, pitching from 54 feet, compared with a 60-foot diamond and pitching at 46 feet for Little League.

Tony McPhail, President of the Surfers Paradise Baseball Club said: “We are excited to be hosting a National Championship at our club. After the success of holding the Pan Pacific Baseball games, we are up for the challenge once again.”

Baseball Australia will bring you more information on the National Junior League Championships in early 2015.
