Day 2 of the Under 16 National Youth Championships presented by Rawlings finished in a tiebreaker as New South Wales and Country New South Wales battled for state bragging rights.
New South Wales v New South Wales Country
Country New South Wales won by one run in the 8th inning, finishing with a score of 4-3. In a low scoring game, with each team only adding a run apiece by the 7th, the tie breaker rule was put into effect. With runners placed on first and second, NSW added two runs to their scoreline but Country added three and secured themselves the win.
Country New South Wales player Nick Anderson-Vine had an outstanding diving catch at centrefield and completed the throw to second for a double play in the top of the third. New South Wales centerfielder, Cooper Horton, also had an excellent diving catch to finish the third inning.
South Australia v Western Australia
Western Australia completed their first full game of the tournament with a win against South Australia 7-2. Their first game was postponed due to weather, and took advantage of the extra rest to put 7 runs from 9 hits on the board. The second was a big inning for WA bringing 5 runs across the plate including a double from Mason Talbot. The game also included three double plays turned by Western Australia to further establish their dominance.
The ACT established their lead early on with a three run lead, with two in the first and one in the second inning. Queensland came out with bats swinging in the last two innings but were not able to capitalise on their hits and lost the game 2-3.
This mornings Victoria White versus Victoria Blue game was postponed due to the fields being wet and unplayable after last night’s storm.
