Match Report - Doncaster at Springvale, Women's Div 1. Semi Final

Winner goes into the grand final. Loser plays the winner of the other semi final. 

Top 1st- Collis of Doncaster singled to begin the game and was batted around by groundouts to score one.

Score Doncaster 1, Springvale 0

Bottom 1st- Lillywhite doubled to centre to start it off, Manzie-Novotney singled to advance her and Hugh batted in the run with a sacfly.

Top 2nd – Penny walked and Clifford singled to centre but they were left on as Brown, on the hill for Springvale, forced three contact outs.

Bottom 2nd- Flanigan hit to centre and Loon batted her in before Lillywhite hit up the middle and pushed Loon to 3rd with two out. Manzie-Novotney walked to the vacant base, Collis soaked up the pressure though and got a fly ball to centre to end it.

Top 3rd- Brown pitched with great accuracy as she induced three contact outs to sit the batters down in order.

Bottom 3rd- Row singled to left with one out then Flanigan did the same. Jackson was keen from the first pitch then she hit a hard single to right. The runner got tagged at the plate though so there was no RBI. Brown got it done when she hit to short centre and scored two runs. Loon cleared the centerfielder for a double but Brown held up at 3rd then Lillywhite drove hard to centre for a  two RBI single. Shae showed her experience by stealing 2nd  and 3rd. Manzie- Novotney walked then the run scored on an error. Collis limited the damage and relied on her centerfielder to take the catch and leave two on.

Top 4th- Peterson led off with a line drive single to left then stole and was called safe on a missed tag at 2nd. Pope singled to right and scored the run reducing the deficit to five. Pope got doubled off after a line drive to 3rd was well caught by Hugh. Then an infield pop-up ended the innings.  

Doncaster 2, Springvale 7

Bottom 4th- Row added to her day out with an arms extended single into left. She ran into a fielder’s choice at 2nd  though, then Flannagan stole the same base. Jackson showed her power when she smashed one to the right fence for an RBI triple. Cannington then took the mound for the visitors and left the runner on base.  

Doncaster 2, Springvale 8

Top 5th- Davis led off with a hard hit single but got doubled off at 1st to end the dig with no addition to the score.

Bottom 5th -Back at the top of the Springvale order and Lillywhite walked then stole 2nd after a good jump. A infield pop-up got the first out then there was another in foul territory for the second. Cannington was throwing good off speed as she got a strikeout swinging to finish it off.

Top 6th- Cannington got on for the Dragons after an error then stole 2nd. Lillywhite made a good play for the tag at 3rd and Hamilton was safe at 1st with one out. Hamilton stole 2nd and Peterson batted her to 3rd after a groundout. Brown looked in control as she steadied and left the runner on after a another contact out ended the dig.    

Doncaster 2, Springvale 8

Bottom 6th- Cannington got an infield groundball to start it off then used her curve ball to work two Ks. Doncaster then needed six runs to tie it up and Springvale needed three outs to earn a spot in the grand final.

Top 7th- Penny singled into right. Then Brown got a batter swinging as the runner stole 2nd and got called safe on a missed tag play. A groundball to 2nd got another out and Doncaster were down to their last. Brown finished it off in style with a strikeout after a complete game from her.
