09 May 2025

Baseball Victoria is excited to announce the next stage of a Together More Active Wellbeing & Safeguarding Project, supported through Victorian Government funding.

BV has partnered with Total Teams to present the Wellbeing and Safeguarding Project: Building Safe & Well Baseball Clubs.

Over the winter season, associations and clubs will be invited to participate in the program, which will run as four monthly sessions with a focus on applied learning and practical implementation. The program will be extended to summer clubs later in the year.

Clubs will nominate their Wellbeing and Safeguarding Leads through an internal process, identifying leaders who will be responsible for championing a safe, supportive, and inclusive club environment, prioritising both child and adult safeguarding.

An initial workshop has already been delivered for Melbourne Winter Baseball League clubs, with another scheduled for all winter clubs on 13 May. Following Workshop 2, nominations for Wellbeing & Safeguarding Leads will open ahead of the Leadership Program, beginning 27 May.

“We are thrilled to be working with Total Teams to launch our Wellbeing and Safeguarding Leads Project, ensuring Baseball Victoria’s Policy for Safeguarding Children and Young People and the National Integrity Framework are embedded in all club activities,” BV CEO Chet Gray said. “We are committed to fostering a culture of wellbeing for all members, and these workshops are a fantastic start.”

Participating associations and clubs will gain a deeper understanding of what wellbeing and safeguarding mean in community sport, while recognising that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Facilitator Edwina Ricci has worked in wellbeing and safeguarding education for 30+ years as a psychology, wellbeing, and mathematics teacher. With a background in netball and cricket from the grassroots club to elite levels, Edwina is passionate about building safe and well sporting environments.

“We’re so excited to be working alongside the Victorian baseball community to back the volunteers who make this game possible. The WSL role isn’t just about policy — it’s about creating clubs where people feel safe, supported, and proud to belong. Safe sport doesn’t happen by accident. It’s something we all build, together — and this is a powerful step forward.”
