Long time Team Australia member David Kandilas will prepare for the World Baseball Classic in different colours this season, after the veteran outfielder put pen to paper with the Canberra Cavalry for the 2016/17 Australian Baseball League Season.

Kandilas played a vital role in Team Australia’s most recent tournament Honkbalweek Haarlem in The Netherlands, capped off by an extra innings walk-off single against Curaçao to seal Team Australia’s place in the Preliminary Final.

After spending the first five seasons of the ABL in Sydney, the veteran will be patrolling the outfield grass at Narrabundah Ballpark this season as his preparations ramp up for the World Baseball Classic in March.

Currently ranked 13th in the world, Australia will take on China, Cuba and #1 ranked Japan in their group at the World Baseball Classic, which will get underway at the famous Tokyo Dome in March.

Kandilas is excited by the prospect of playing for the Cavalry this season.

“I’m really excited about playing in Canberra,” Kandilas said.

“I’ve heard nothing but good things from guys that have played there, and it’ll be great preparation for meleading up to the World Baseball Classic next year.”

Kandilas and the Cavalry get their 2016/17 ABL campaign underway on the 17th of October in Brisbane against defending champions, the Brisbane Bandits proudly presented by WellDog.
