AJLC2019 day three recap

Adelaide Rays, Northern Metros and Southern Mariners remain undefeated after day three of the 2019 Australian Junior League Championship on Tuesday.

The trio are in prime position heading into the final day of pool play with the top eight seeds after tomorrow’s action advancing to quarter-finals.

Pool play will continue at Glenelg Baseball Club (Anderson Ave, Glenelg) tomorrow before the tournament shifts back to West Beach on Thursday for the finals.

Southern Mariners 14, Gold Coast Cougars 4 | Box Score

Southern Mariners recorded a second win in as many attempts, topping Gold Coast Cougars 14-4.

The Mariners raced ahead 8-0 and responded when the Cougars hit the board in the fifth and sixth.

Lachlan Stevens homered for Southern and finished with two runs batted in, along with Tom Brookes and Thomas Yuile.

Starting pitcher Genevieve Beacom recorded fix strikeouts in two scoreless innings.

Charlie Pierson also finished the game with five punchouts.

Max Blair and Jaecob Arnott drove in runs for Gold Coast.

 

Eastern Athletics 11, Illawarra 4 | Box Score

Eastern Athletics rode a seven-run fifth to an 11-4 win over Illawarra in the final game of day three at Glenelg.

Harrison Elustondo’s two-run homer highlighted the big inning for the Athletics, who picked up their first win.

James Squire recorded three hits for Eastern in an even team-effort on diamond one.

Mitchell Wheatley accounted for three of Illawarra’s hits.

 

Day four action on Wednesday will start at the earlier time of 8.30am (local time) at Glenelg Baseball Club.
