GUN baseballer Lachlan Jack is in the running to represent Australia in a World Cup series in Mexico.

The talented pitcher-batter from Bendigo-based Scots Baseball Club has earned an invitation to next month's training camp for Australia's under-15 squad to play in La Paz, Mexico later in the year.

It's the first time Australia will field a the team in the IBAF event.

Selection trials will be held at Palm Meadows on the Gold Coast from June 13 to 15.

Jack's pitching and versatility caught the eye of selectors at the national under-16 titles played last January.

The right-arm pitcher capped a superb carnival by earning the Golden Arm award.

His highest pitching speed has been clocked at 87 miles per hour, 140kmh.

There have been many hours spent on the diamond playing or training for baseball.

In recent years he has played for Scots in winter and Essendon in summer.

The 15-year-old worked on developing his skills with the Bendigo Bank Academy of Sport.

Jack was athlete of the year in the baseball program in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

This winter he has stepped up to be a first-year player in Scots A-grade team.

A highlight will be on the Queen's Birthday holiday weekend when he represents Bendigo at senior level for the first time.

The BBA team to play in Geelong includes Lachlan's dad, Kenan.

It's been a meteoric rise since Lachlan Jack first took to the diamond with Scots in 2006.

Baseball has played a big part in the life of the Jack family for many years.

The Jack brothers - Robert (aka Bin), Alby, Keith, Russell and Roger - all played baseball.

Roger's sons, Kenan and Edsell then pitched, threw and batted on diamonds across Bendigo and elsewhere in the country.

After a few years rest from playing in the BBA, Kenan picked up the bat and glove again.

Away from the baseball diamond, Lachlan Jack is studying at Bendigo Technical Education College.
Teenager's pitching catches attention

Lachlan Jack is keen to gain some sponsors to cover costs to the Gold Coast and then possibly to Mexico.

The IBAF World Cup for under-15s runs from July 29 to August 11.
