In a must win game to advance to the gold medal play off, the Emeralds lost to the USA 3-1.

In their first game of the semi-final round at the 2014 Women’s World Cup, the Emeralds needed to win in order to progress. They will now play for the Bronze medal on Sunday.

The Emeralds battled with the USA for most of the game, but were unable to deliver when they needed to - with bat or ball.

Although the Emeralds were the first to get on the board in the top of the 4th, USA responded with two runs at the end of the fourth and another in the 6th to end the game with a scoreline of 3-1.

It's time for the team to regroup and prepare for the next challenge, which is two games against Canada and the chance to redeem themselves.

Manager Simone Wearne explained how "It is a really disappointing result for us. We have worked hard, and we came here for the chance to play off for gold. But the fact is that we make our own destiny, so we need to really focus over the next two days and come out swinging the bats against Canada".

The Emeralds will play Canada today at 1:30 pm (2:30pm AEST) at Sun Marine Stadium and again tomorrow for the Bronze medal.
