Team Australia Futures Squad Released Ahead of Giants Series

08 February 2022

Twenty players from around the country, including two from Victoria, have been named to the Team Australia Futures roster set to take on the Adelaide Giants at West Beach this weekend.

Victorian infielder George Callil and right-handed pitcher Angus Stals have earned a spot on the roster for the two-game series against the Australian Baseball League franchise.

WHO MADE IT? Full Team Australia Futures roster

This Victorian duo will join MLB-signings Clayton Campbell (Detroit Tigers) and Solomon Maguire (Pittsburgh Pirates) along with a strong contingent of last year’s National Junior Squad.

Unlike Team Australia’s recent series against the Brisbane Bandits that featured U-19 players, the Futures’ squad includes a number of overage players who have returned from college and had signed with ABL teams.

Callil is one of several players to don the green and gold with the Futures after completing college stints. On the flip side, a number of college-bound prospects will line up for Team Australia, including Stals who committed to Three Rivers College last year.

Baseball Victoria Talent Development Manager Damian Shanahan is one of three assistant coaches alongside Andrew Riddell and Riley Moore and team manager Shayne Watson.

The series will get underway at West Beach at 7pm on Friday. Game two is slated for 7pm Saturday.

Both games will be streamed at baseball.com.au/videos, and you can read the full announcement HERE.
