Hosts Colombia have overpowered Australia 18-5 on the opening day of the U23 World Cup consolation bracket on Friday morning (Australian time)
Australia gave up eight runs in the bottom of the first and despite homering three times were unable to get back into the contest.
Jordan McArdle went deep in the third and Sam Kennelly and Zac Shepherd homered back-to-back in the fifth for the Aussies.
Ulrich Bojarski and Jess Williams also drove in runs for Australia.
Jake Green worked 2 1/3 scoreless frames on the mound but Australia was otherwise unable to stop Colombia’s offence from firing.
The hosts racked up 20 hits overall.
Australia faces Netherlands tomorrow, starting from 7am AEDT.
