Baseball Australia statement: Chinese Professional Baseball League

Baseball Victoria
17 January 2019

Baseball Australia was asked to confirm our potential involvement to compete in the second half of the 2019 CPBL Minor League by the 15th of January 2019.

Baseball Australia was asked to confirm our potential involvement to compete in the second half of the 2019 CPBL Minor League by the 15th of January 2019.

After careful review, Baseball Australia has determined that we are unable to take up this offer for 2019.  There are several operational and logistical reasons for this decision, but it does not mean we won’t continue to work with the CPBL and the CPBL teams to achieve this goal in a future year.

Future Partnerships

We remain committed to working with the CPBL and the CPBL teams on both:

an Australian team entering the CPBL as we now aim for 2020 or 2021, and

a Taiwan team entering the Australian Baseball League in either 2019/2020 or 2020/2021.  We will be confirming our plans for a Taiwan team in the ABL by April 2019.

I want to thank the CPBL and CPBL teams, along with Eleven Sports, for supporting the 2018/2019 ABL season, as we enter our final round and our finals over the next 3 weeks.  Taiwan players are a great asset for the continued international expansion of the Australian Baseball League.

The collaboration between the CPBL and ABL, and the CPBL teams and ABL teams will continue in 2019 and beyond.
