Women's Super Saturday at Cheltenham Rustlers Baseball Club was a great success, with plenty of supporters turning out to watch three fantastic Grand Finals. The entire day was a wonderful display of Victoria's talented female baseball teams, and it was the perfect way to celebrate International Women's Day! There were some surprising results on the day, and plenty of smiles all around as these women put it all out on the field to pursue their premiership dreams. Well done to all players, teams and clubs on another amazing VSBL season, and congratulations to the Grand Final winners!

Women's Division 3

The Warriors were unstoppable and undefeated this season, with 14 wins and 1 draw, but they fell just short of a premiership flag to cap it all off. Doncaster/Melbourne were the only team to tie with Wheelers Hill, going back to their 5-5 draw in round 6. Although they lost 5-4 to Wheelers Hill in their last meeting in round 15 on Feb 9th, Doncaster/Melbourne turned the tables with a two-run lead at the end of the game. One standout player for Doncaster/Melbourne was Lea Rohner, a rotary exchange student from Switzerland who has never played baseball prior to this season. As an elite level European Handball player, she's a natural athlete, and she showcased her skills with an amazing catch in the outfield and an RBI to help her team. Both teams battled hard, but ultimately the combined Dragons/Demons team prevailed for their thrilling premiership win, a well-earned result to round off a dedicated season.

Springvale Lions vs. Doncaster Dragons

The Lions lost two out of three regular season games against Doncaster, but they put on one of their best performances to win the Grand Final. It didn't take long, with Springvale jumping out to an early 7-2 lead by the top of the 3rd inning. As the top of the 5th, rolled around, they had stretched their lead to a massive 18-5 advantage. Doncaster's pitching and hitting struggled to battle back, but regardless of the final result, both teams displayed respectable comradery and friendship throughout the entire season. Next year is looking bright for both clubs as they continue to grow and further their development.

Women's Division 1

Springvale Lions vs. Essendon Bombers

The Bombers pulled off the ultimate feat: snapping Springvale's streak of six-straight premierships with a close yet convincing win! Springvale won all but two games in the regular season, while Essendon went 10-8, but the Bombers certainly put forth their best effort on Grand Final Saturday to bring home the premiership.

Springvale started standout pitcher Gabby Bevan, while Essendon had last season's MVP Abbey Kelly on the mound. Essendon started things off strong with a 1-0 lead in the 3rd, but in the 6th Springvale turned things around with a 3-1 advantage. The Bombers made a break in the 7th, bringing home their fifth run that would be enough to win the game. After six consecutive premierships and another amazing season, the Lions gave up the shield to the a very deserving Bombers team. Congratulations to both teams on such awesome performances!
