The 2022 U12 State Winter Championship got underway in Werribee on Saturday, with six teams hitting the diamond for an exciting first day.
Dandenong and Ringwood are both 3-0, followed by Geelong at 2-1 and Diamond Valley at 1-2. Bendigo will have a shot at their first win on Sunday morning.

Dandenong 13 v Diamond Valley 1
Dandenong opened up scoring in the first inning on a double by Cooper B before adding five more in the second. Ryder O, Cooper, Chase P, and Refferty G all drove in runs in the frame.
Refferty was credited with the victory for Dandenong, allowing no hits, walks, or runs over one and one-third innings with four strikeouts. James W, Chase, and Hayley D all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
Beckett S took the loss for Diamond Valley. Beckett surrendered five runs on five hits, walking zero.
Dandenong scattered 14 hits in the game. Cooper went 3-for-3 while Chase, Oscar H, and Refferty had multiple hits, too. Dandenong didn't commit a single error in the field as Lachlan J had eight chances, the most on the team.
Nate B went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Diamond Valley in hits.
Geelong 3 v City West 0
Geelong defeated City West 3-0 on Saturday as six pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Doubles from Noah L and Joshua R helped Geelong get on the board.
One bright spot for City West was a single by Flynn S in the fourth inning.
Huga T got the start for Geelong, giving up no runs or hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two.
Lucas K led things off on the hill for City West. The bulldog surrendered two runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking zero. Noah C, Joshua, and Flynn each contributed in relief.
Geelong totaled seven hits. Noah went 3-for-3 and Cale M had multiple hits, too. Noah led Geelong with three of the team's ten stolen bases.
City West tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Kohen V led the way with two.
Diamond Valley 8 v Bendigo 4
An early lead helped Diamond Valley defeat Bendigo. Diamond Valley scored on a wild pitch during Cooper S's at bat and a double by Joel R in the first inning.
Cohen P pitched Diamond Valley to victory. Cohen lasted two innings, allowing zero hits and two runs while striking out three. Peter B, Dylan A, and Partick L all put in work in relief out of the bullpen.
Zak B took the loss for Bendigo. The pitcher surrendered four runs on three hits over one-third of an inning without any walks.
Joel went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Diamond Valley in hits while Bendigo's Hamish K went 1-for-2.
Dandenong 10 v City West 3
City West had trouble keeping up with Dandenong in a 10-3 loss on Saturday. Dandenong scored in the first on a single from Refferty G before taking the lead for good with four runs in the third inning. Refferty doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and Cooper B drew a walk, scoring one run.
City West notched three runs in the second inning with RBIs from Kohen V and Brodie L.
Dandenong scored four runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower was led by Zeek S, Lachlan J, and Refferty, all knocking in runs.
Ryder O led things off on the hill for Dandenong. The fireballer went three innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out eight.
Noah S toed the rubber for City West. The pitcher lasted one inning, allowing one hit and one run while striking out one. Noah C, Christian P, Kohen, and Isaac D all pitched in relief. Brodie and Kohen each collected one hit to lead City West.

Ringwood 13 v Geelong 6
After a 14-1 win over Bendigo to start the day, Ringwood got in front early to win 13-6 over Geelong. Ringwood scored in the first on singles by Finn W, Oliver A, and Shiwon J, plus a few big stolen bases.
Geelong had five hits and Ringwood had 12 total. Five of Geelong's runs came in the third with RBIs from Cale M, Tully M, and Heston L.
Ringwood scored six runs in the third thanks to big at-bats by Tony H, Oliver, Kaleb D, Archer N, and Edison.
Oliver led things off on the hill for Ringwood. The bulldog surrendered zero runs on zero hits over one inning, striking out two and walking one.
Cale was on the pitcher's mound for Geelong, giving up three hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one. Trace L and Jasper H entered the game in relief, throwing one and one-third innings and one-third of an inning respectively.
Jasper, Flynn S, Heston, Cale, and George S each collected one hit to lead Geelong. The side stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one, including Cale who led the way with three. Geelong didn't commit a single error in the field as Huga T had the most chances with three.
Finn, Edison, and Shiwon all had multiple hits for Ringwood, with Finn stealing four of the team's 17 stolen bases. Ringwood was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error as Finn made the most plays with three.
Dandenong 9 v Bendigo 2
Dandenong defeated Bendigo 9-2 on Saturday thanks to five runs in a big third inning. Chase P, Zeek S, and Lachlan J each had RBIs in the frame.
Dandenong opened up scoring in the first inning when Aiden J drew a walk, with three runs coming in the second on Ryder O's single.
James W led things off on the pitcher's mound for Dandenong. The pitcher didn't give up any runs or hits in an inning of work, with just one walk and a strikeout.
Taylor H led things off on the hill for Bendigo. The hurler allowed zero hits and one run over one inning. Jackson T, Samson C, and Russell B each contributed in relief for Bendigo.
Chase went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Dandenong in hits. Lachlan had the most chances in the field with four.
Geelong 8 v Diamond Valley 6
Both pitching staffs had their hands full in a back-and-forth battle where Geelong bested Diamond Valley, 8-6.
Geelong got on the board in the first when Tully M drew a walk, scoring one run.
Diamond Valley evened things up at two in the bottom of the first inning when Tully's wild pitch allowed one run to score for Diamond Valley.
In the second, Geelong's George S doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Diamond Valley put up three runs in the third inning with a stolen base by Kieran H.
Tully pitched for Geelong, giving up five runs on four hits over three innings, striking out six and walking zero. George and Lachie H entered the game out of the bullpen to help close it out.
Cooper S took the loss for Diamond Valley. The pitcher went two innings, allowing four runs on two hits with five strikeouts.
Jaxon W went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Diamond Valley in hits while Kieran took a team-high eight chances in the field.
Geelong collected seven hits on the day as George and Tully had two each.
Ringwood 12 v City West 7
Ringwood put two on the board in the first while City West cut the deficit in half in the bottom frame. Ringwood went on to score five runs in both the second and the third, putting them in front of City West which scored five in the second and one more in the third.
Despite the final score, City West outhit Ringwood 10 to six, with two apiece to Brodie L, Flynn S, and Kohen V. Augustus H, Noah C, Ezrah R, and Connor B also had hits. Ezrah, Flynn, and Kohen hit doubles.
Edison B doubled for Ringwood while Shiwon J, Finn W, Michael N, and Harrison P also got on base with timely hits. Ewan C and Harrison put in work on the mound, striking out two each.
