Baseball Victoria’s U14 State Winter Championships will get underway in Bendigo on Saturday 2 July, with 11 teams in the running for grand final glory, including two all-girls teams.
The addition of the BV Allstars teams is part of Baseball Victoria’s growing women and girls pathway, offering an opportunity for junior girls to play on an all-female team. Following strong interest from youth girls and successful tryouts, two teams were formed with 28 girls taking part in the tournament.
“We are excited to continue the State Winter Championships in Bendigo with more than 150 players ready to take the field,“ Baseball Victoria CEO Chet Gray said. “It’s great to have two all-girls teams joining the tournament as we look to further support female participation at all levels.”
The U14 State Winter Champs will be held on the same weekend as the Women’s Junior Sporting Festival as Bendigo Baseball Association and the local community look forward to hosting the event after a significant hiatus.
“Our association is proud to host this tournament with our members excited and eager to give the best possible experience to all teams, coaches, volunteers and players,” BBA President Anthony Amsing said. “We wish teams the best of luck and look forward to seeing some competitive baseball across the weekend.”
“To have two all-girls teams attending the U14 SWC is a tremendous initiative that will hopefully encourage more girls to play our sport and provide parents with a clearer pathway for their kids. We sincerely hope this is the first step in developing an all-girls championship across all age groups in the near future.”
