2025 Under 13 State Winter Championships Day 2

The 2025 Under 13 State Winter Championships wrapped up in Wangaratta after an action-packed Sunday culminating in two great grand finals.

Congratulations to Dandenong on winning Division 1 and North East on winning Division 2. A special thank you to host Wangaratta Rangers Baseball Club and all the committee members, grounds crew, and NEBA volunteers who made it possible.

Well done to all teams and players from across the state, including the North East, Melbourne, Dandenong, Geelong, Latrobe Valley, Bendigo, and Sunraysia.

Division 1

Dandenong 15, Geelong 2

Quinn M drove in six runs on one hit to lead Dandenong past Geelong 15-2 on Sunday at Wangaratta. Quinn hit a grand slam to left field in the first inning.

Dandenong scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Levi D singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Kino O grounded out, scoring one run, and Reuben A singled, scoring one run.

Dandenong scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Ian K grounded out, scoring one run, and Levi and Kino both hit 2-RBI singles.

Mia W stepped on the mound first for Dandenong. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking none.

Gus M stepped on the bump first for Geelong. The starter gave up nine hits and 13 runs (six earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking three.

Dandenong piled up 11 hits in the game. Reuben, Kino, and Levi each collected two hits while Levi stole three bases. They ran wild on the base paths, totaling nine stolen bases. The defense didn't commit a single error in the field as Reuben had the most chances with four.

Harper W led Geelong with two hits in two at-bats from the leadoff position.

Ringwood 6, Diamond Valley 5

It came down to the wire on Sunday at Wangaratta as Ringwood grabbed a 6-5 victory in walk-off fashion over Diamond Valley. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the fifth when Joel Y singled, scoring one run.

Ringwood came back to win despite trailing 5-1 in the fourth. Diamond Valley was first on the board in the opening frame after Archer P singled, scoring one run.

Diamond Valley added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Quorra I doubled and Jonty B grounded out, each scoring one run.

Ringwood tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a walk by Yugo T, a single by Jake R, a double by Callum D, and a groundout by Hayden H.

Yugo stepped on the bump first for Ringwood. The hurler surrendered six hits and five runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking six. Nathaniel K threw one inning of no-run ball for Ringwood in relief. The pitcher allowed one hit, striking out one and walking one.

Diamond Valley starter Luca L gave up seven hits and five runs over four innings, striking out five and walking four.

Ringwood totaled 10 hits in the game. Jake and Carter M each collected two hits while Callum, Hayden, Joel, Jake, and Carter each drove in one run. Tate S and Leo L both stole multiple bases.

Quorra and Archer were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Diamond Valley. Dane P led with two hits in three at-bats. The team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game, while defensively, they didn't make any errors as Archer had the most plays with six.

Grand Final: Dandenong 7, Ringwood 5

Quinn M drove in four runs on one hit to lead Dandenong past Ringwood 7-5 on Sunday. In the first inning, Quinn hit a grand slam to left field.

Rikuto T hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third for Dandenong. Despite falling down by five runs in the fourth inning, Ringwood battled back, closing the gap by scoring on an error and a steal of home.

Ian K started on the bump for Dandenong. The pitcher allowed three hits and two runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking two. Hugh W appeared in relief.

Tate S started the game for Ringwood. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out five and walking four.

Leadoff hitter Mia W led Dandenong with two hits in two at-bats. Mia stole four bases.

Leo L, Charlie A, Jake R, and Carter M each collected one hit for Ringwood. Leo, Jake, and Axl D each drove in one run. Leo, Jake, and Carter stole multiple bases with eight total in the game. The defense didn't make any errors as Callum D had the most chances in the field with five.

Consolation Final: Geelong 4, Diamond Valley 2

Geelong won 4-2 over Diamond Valley, collecting five hits and giving up six.

Geelong was first on the board in the opening frame after Hunter J singled, scoring one run. An error extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second.

Jasper H earned the win for Geelong. The hurler allowed six hits and two runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking two.

Max K took the loss for Diamond Valley. The hurler went three innings, surrendering three runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out five and walking two.

Hunter W, Alistair B, Hunter, Ed F, and Jasper each collected one hit for Geelong. Harper W, Alistair, and Hunter all drove in one run.

Ryan B led Diamond Valley with two hits while Archer P and Oakley E each drove in one run.

Division 2

North East 13, City West 2

North East won 13-2 over City West on Sunday morning. City West got on board in the top of the first inning after Brodie L singled to center field and Ainslie H doubled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

North East flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 5-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a walk by Kazu A that drove in two.

North East extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI walks by Florian W, Angel T, and Jordan D. They added five runs on two hits in the third. Charlie D singled, Hudson S grounded out, and Harlan W drew a walk, each scoring one run, and an error scored another.

Charlie stepped on the hill first for North East. The starter allowed four hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Hunter H threw one inning of zero-run ball in relief, giving up zero hits, striking out one and walking none.

Jordan, Hudson, Charlie, Florian, Angel, Harlan G, and Hunter each drove in one run for North East. Harlan went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the side in hits.

North East had patience at the plate, piling up 13 walks for the game. Jordan, Tate C, and Harlan led the team with two free passes each. Mack C, Charlie, Tate, Kazu, Harlan, and Harlan all stole multiple bases while the defense was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Harlan made the most plays with nine.

Brodie and Ainslie were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for City West. Brodie, Owen P, Lucas C, and Ainslie each collected one hit.

Latrobe Valley 10, Sunraysia 5

Latrobe Valley was victorious against Sunraysia 10-5 on Sunday at Wangaratta. LV got on board in the bottom of the first inning after Beau S grounded out and Diesel G tripled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Latrobe Valley scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Cohen S and Chase S singled, each scoring one run, before bases-loaded walks to Diesel and Ryan M. Bailey S was struck by a pitch, driving in another run.

Sunraysia scored five runs on two hits in the top of the third inning. Jett M drew a walk, scoring one run, Declan G was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Tyson M drew a walk, scoring one run, and Fletcher R doubled, scoring two runs.

Latrobe Valley added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Oscar C singled, Zeke L singled down the right field line, and Roy W walked, each scoring one run.

Ryan started on the mound for Latrobe Valley. The pitcher surrendered three hits and five runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking five.

Jett began the game for Sunraysia. The pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one.

Diesel provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Latrobe Valley with two runs batted in as the outfielder went 1-for-1. Cohen went 2-for-2 to lead the side in hits, while Ryan and Chase led the team with two free passes each (11 walks total in the game).

Ryder H, Chase, Oscar, Cohen, and Tamzin H each stole multiple bases for Latrobe Valley, while the defense turned a double play and didn't make any errors. Alex M had the most chances in the field with five.

Fletcher led Sunraysia with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The center fielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Cooper A and Jett also had hits, plus multiple stolen bases along with Christian B (nine total in the game). The team didn't commit a single error in the field as Charlotte J had the most chances with four.

Bendigo 7, Latrobe Valley 6

Bendigo took Sunday's game in dramatic fashion with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Latrobe Valley at Wangaratta. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the fifth when Bailey S drew a walk, scoring one run.

Bendigo got on board in the bottom of the first inning after Henry E grounded into a fielder's choice, Isaiah P walked, and Imogene P walked, each scoring one run.

Latrobe Valley tied the game up in the top of the third thanks to two doubles. They made it 3-3 on a double by Beau S. Bendigo broke up the tie in the fourth when Imogene grounded out, scoring one run. Then a single by Azlyn B followed to extend the lead to 6-3.

Latrobe Valley tied it up again in the top of the fifth thanks to a double by Ryder H and a walk by Oscar C.

Henry stepped on the hill first for Bendigo. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and three runs over four innings, striking out four and walking none. Cody I appeared in relief.

Ryder opened the game for Latrobe Valley. The starter gave up six hits and six runs over four innings, striking out four and walking six.

Imogene and Azlyn each drove in two runs for Bendigo. Azlyn led with two hits in two at-bats while Lance M and Isaiah led the team with two free passes each (nine walks total). They ran wild on the base paths, piling up eight stolen bases for the game. The defense was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error as Oliver H had the most chances with five.

Ryder drove the middle of the lineup, leading Latrobe Valley with four runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 3-for-3 on the day. Hudson D collected two hits in two at-bats and Chase S stole three bases. The defense also turned a double play.

Sunraysia 12, City West 10

There were runs aplenty as Sunraysia outlasted City West 12-10. Sunraysia collected six hits, while City West had eight.

Sunraysia got on board in the top of the first inning after Declan G doubled, scoring two runs, Benjamin M drew a walk, scoring one run, and Marie L grounded out, scoring one run.

City West flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 7-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Brodie L that drove in two.

Sunraysia scored five runs on three hits to take the lead, 9-7, in the third. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Nate W that drove in two.

City West jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Kado L and Brodie both singled down the right field line and Harvey C singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Sunraysia made it a 12-10 ballgame in the top of the fourth after Cooper A homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Marie grounded out, scoring one run.

Jett M started on the bump for Sunraysia, giving up one hit and two runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking three.

Lucas C led things off on the mound for City West. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and four runs, striking out one and walking two.

Hugo A pitched three innings in relief for Sunraysia. The hurler allowed seven hits and eight runs while striking out one and walking six.

Declan provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Sunraysia with four runs batted in as the cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Declan and Nate each collected two hits while hitting back-to-back while Benjamin led with three walks and two stolen bases.

Overall, Sunraysia took nine walks and turned a double play with no errors on defense. Nate had the most fielding chances with six.

Brodie provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading City West with four runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Ainslie H led with two of the team's nine walks and also stole multiple bases alongside Wilson P and Alice M. The team stole 13 bases in the game.

Grand Final: North East 12, Sunraysia 0

North East scored five in the first, two in the second, and another five in the third to seal the deal on the grand final.

Their strong pitching shut down the Sunraysia offence, with Nate Williams recording the only hit of the game (a double).

Consolation Final: City West 14, Bendigo 0

Brodie L drove in seven runs on three hits to lead City West past Bendigo 14-0 on Sunday at Wangaratta. Brodie tripled in the first, scoring two, hit a grand slam to right field in the second, scoring four, and doubled in the fourth, scoring one.

Brodie struck out 11 batters on the day. The starter also gave up zero hits and zero runs over four innings while walking one.

City West got on board in the bottom of the first inning after Viktor D singled, scoring one run, Brodie tripled, scoring two runs, and Kado L singled, scoring two runs.

Six more City West runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 11-0. Noah M and Harvey C drew bases-loaded walks and Brodie hit a grand slam to right field.

Ainslie H led City West with three of the team's 10 walks. Noah, Ainslie, and Wilson P each stole multiple bases with 10 total in the game. The defense was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error as Ainslie had the most chances with 11.

Oliver H stole two bases.
