2025 Under 15 State Winter Championships Day 1

The 2025 Under 15 State Winter Championships got underway in Latrobe Valley, with a foggy start giving way to a brilliant Saturday of competitive games.

Morwell and Moe/Newborough Baseball Clubs are hosting the fun from 5-6 July. Division 1 features Dandenong, Diamond Valley, Ringwood, and Geelong, while Division 2 includes Bendigo, City West, Latrobe Valley, and North East.

Semi-Finals: Dandenong v Ringwood and Geelong v Diamond Valley

Dandenong 7, Ringwood 6

Despite trailing by as many as four runs, Dandenong rallied to beat Ringwood 7-6 on Saturday at Morwell Baseball Club.

A passed ball put Dandenong on board in the bottom of the second. Ringwood jumped back into the lead in the top of the third after Eddie Bush singled down the right field line, a handful of errors, and Oscar Martin walked to score runs.

Dandenong tied it up in the bottom of the fourth on a hit by pitch and a walk by Graecian Heath.

Oscar Haysom started on the mound for Dandenong, giving up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking two. Aiden Incoll and Gene Banks-Lakiotis each appeared in relief.

Lachlan Jeffree stepped on the bump first for Ringwood, giving up four hits and seven runs over three and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking six.

Yuntae (timmy) Jun, the number seven hitter for Dandenong, led the way with two runs batted in. Number eight hitter, Logan Chambers, showed the depth of the lineup, leading with two hits in two at-bats. Xavier Woodcock led with two of the team's six walks.

Hadyn Doganay, Archer Nicholas, Bush, and Martin each drove in one run for Ringwood. Bush went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the team in hits while the defense was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Elias Arianas made the most plays with nine.

Geelong 10, Diamond Valley 9

Geelong built a 6-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Diamond Valley's charge for a 10-9 victory on Saturday. DV closed the gap by scoring on a walk and two singles.

Geelong got on board in the top of the first after a couple of errors, and a single by Christian Papadopoulos extended their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second inning.

Geelong added five runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. An error scored one run, Jonah Burrill drew a walk, scoring one run, Rive Abram singled, scoring one run, and Archie Rose singled, scoring two runs.

Diamond Valley responded with five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth. Finn Welte drew a walk, scoring one run before Peter Baade and Lucas Bunt hit 2-RBI singles.

George Steer stepped on the bump first for Geelong. The starter surrendered two hits and two runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out five and walking one. Cale Morris and Teal Loone each appeared in relief.

Baade started on the hill for Diamond Valley, giving up zero hits and three runs (zero earned) over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking one.

Rose led Geelong with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The center fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Flynn Scargill, Morris, and Papadopoulos each stole multiple bases with nine total in the game.

Baade drove the middle of the lineup, leading Diamond Valley with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 3-for-3 on the day.

Geelong 14, Ringwood 8

Geelong won 14-8 over Ringwood and jumped out to an early lead in the first after Cale Morris singled, scoring two runs, Christian Papadopoulos drew a walk, scoring one run, and Rive Abram singled, scoring two more.

A single by Alex Green and a tag-up by Green helped Geelong extend their early lead in the third.

Ringwood scored five runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Oliver Laureyssens singled, scoring two runs, Trent Westcott drew a walk, scoring one run, and Hadyn Doganay singled, scoring two runs.

Geelong scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Teal Loone singled, Morris doubled, Lachie Halloran singled, and Harvey Vajc grounded out, each scoring one run with an error scoring another.

Archie Rose stepped on the mound first for Geelong, giving up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Halloran pitched one inning of shutout ball in relief with two hits and a walk.

Nolan Johnson opened the game for Ringwood, giving up seven hits over two innings, striking out two and walking four.

Geelong accumulated 10 hits in the game. Morris provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Abram, Flynn Scargill, and Morris each collected two hits while Green, Abram, and Scargill stole multiple bases with 14 total.

Laureyssens, the number eight hitter for Ringwood, led the way with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Albert Baragwanath went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the side in hits.

Diamond Valley 10, Dandenong 9

Diamond Valley got out to a 4-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 10-9 victory over Dandenong, who fought back by scoring three runs on a double in the fourth inning.

Diamond Valley got on board in the top of the first after a dropped third strike, hit by pitch, and an error, each scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the top of the third after Joel Roberts singled to center field and Harper Pitts walked, each scoring one run.

Dandenong jumped into the lead in the bottom of the third when Oliver Corrigan singled, scoring one run, and Aiden Incoll grounded out, scoring three runs.

Diamond Valley flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Pitts that drove in two.

Alex Filmer stepped on the bump first for Diamond Valley, giving up one hit and two runs (zero earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one. Roberts pitched three and one-third innings in relief, giving up five hits and seven runs (six earned) while striking out three and walking six.

Xavier Woodcock started on the bump for Dandenong, allowing zero hits and three runs (one earned) over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking none.

Benjamin Bird, the number eight hitter for Diamond Valley, led the way with two runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Welte and Bird each collected two hits while Roberts and Bird stole multiple bases, with nine overall in the game.

Corrigan and Thomas Skinner each collected two hits for Dandenong. Incoll and Corrigan drove in two runs apiece while Cooper Bicknell led with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Charlie Delaney stole two bases.

Diamond Valley 9, Ringwood 3

Diamond Valley rolled past Ringwood 9-3 on Saturday, after scoring in the first on a 3-RBI double by Joel Roberts and an RBI single by Lucas Bunt. They added one run in the second when Finn Welte doubled down the left field line, making the score 5-1.

A double by Harper Pitts, a walk by Kella De Zylva, and a double by Peter Baade helped Diamond Valley extend their early lead in the third.

DV starter Welte allowed zero hits and one run over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking two. Harrison Coventry tossed one inning of scoreless ball in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits or walks.

Eddie Bush stepped on the bump first for Ringwood, allowing two hits and four runs over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking two.

Roberts drove the middle of the lineup, leading Diamond Valley with three runs batted in. The shortstop went 1-for-2 on the day. Bunt, Anthony Vogt, and Welte each collected two hits while Coventry paced the side with two out of six walks. Bunt and Vogt each stole multiple bases with seven total for the game, plus a double play on defense.

Albert Baragwanath and Bush each collected one hit for Ringwood. Bush stole two bases. They had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game with no errors in the field. Lachlan Jeffree had the most fielding chances with five.

Dandenong 8, Geelong 7

Dandenong defeated Geelong 8-7 on Saturday after taking the lead late in the game. Dandenong was down 7-6 in the top of the third inning when Oscar Haysom grounded out, scoring two runs.

Logan Chambers collected three hits in three at-bats in the win. Chambers doubled in the first, tripled in the second, and singled in the third.

Dandenong was first on board when Haysom singled, scoring one run in the opening frame. Geelong took the lead in the bottom of the first. A steal of home scored two runs, giving them the upper hand, 2-1.

Dandenong captured a 5-2 lead in the top of the second on an error, RBI triple by Chambers, and RBI singles by Cooper Bicknell and Aiden Incoll.

Geelong flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on one hit to take the lead, 7-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Cale Morris that drove in two.

Dandenong captured the lead, 8-7, in the top of the third when Bicknell drew a walk, scoring one run, and Haysom grounded out, scoring two runs.

Jye Moody started the game for Dandenong, allowing zero hits and four runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking five.

Harvey Vajc started on the bump for Geelong, giving up nine hits and eight runs (six earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking two.

Oliver Corrigan threw one inning of no-run ball for Dandenong in relief. The pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.

Haysom provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Dandenong with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Incoll collected two hits in two at-bats while Xavier Woodcock stole two bases.

Morris went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. George Steer led with two out of seven walks, while Archie Rose, Steer, and Morris all recorded multiple solen bases (eight total).

Division 2 Recaps

Semi-Finals: City West v North East and Latrobe Valley v Bendigo

City West 12, Latrobe Valley 10

City West built a 5-run lead in the first inning and then held off Latrobe Valley's charge for a 12-10 victory on Saturday. LV closed the gap by scoring on four walks, a groundout, and an error.

City West collected six hits and scored in the top of the first after Samuel Perez hit an RBI single and Saurav Mittal hit a 2-RBI single. Kit Kinder grounded out, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored another.

Latrobe Valley tied it up in the bottom of the first thanks to a walk by Coadhey Rebbechi, a groundout by Conner Gray, a walk by Max Hinchcliffe, and a wild pitch.

City West flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 10-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Joshua Rowlands that drove in two.

City West added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Ardal Johnston grounded out, and Rowlands singled to the right side of the infield, each scoring one run. Mittal appeared in relief.

Kinder opened the game for City West, giving up zero hits but a fair few walks, allowing seven earned runs with six strikeouts in two innings.

Rowlands and Mittal each collected two hits for City West, driving in two runs apiece. Augustus Holley paced the side with two out of nine walks total. Baxter Moss, Rowlands, Mason Cvetanoski, and Mittal each stole multiple bases with 14 total in the game, plus a double play on defense.

Gray led Latrobe Valley with one run batted in, while Hunter Duncan took three out of 11 walks. Lani Greaves, Blake Duncan, Duncan, Hinchcliffe, Cooper Boyes, Beau Saddington, and Rebbechi each stole multiple bases.

City West 5, Bendigo 1

City West was victorious against Bendigo, despite giving up a run on a sacrifice fly to Evan Lindsay in the opening frame. City West tied it up with a bases-loaded walk by Joshua Rowlands in the bottom of the second.

City West took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Graeme Stokes singled down the left field line, Samuel Perez doubled down the left field line, Baxter Moss singled down the right field line, and Liam Douglas was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.

Isaac Davis started on the mound for City West, giving up zero hits and four runs over four innings, striking out four and walking nine. Moss appeared in relief.

Russell Barham opened the game for Bendigo, allowing zero hits and one run over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two.

Moss, Davis, Perez, and Stokes each collected one hit for City West, while Moss, Perez, and Stokes each drove in one run. Davis and Rowlands both stole multiple bases, with eight total in the game.

Lindsay provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Bendigo with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. Lindsay, Banks-Broome, and Strahan each collected one hit while Nate Anderson took three of the team's nine walks. Barham and Anderson each stole multiple bases with 10 total in the game, plus a double play on defense.

Latrobe Valley 10, North East 6

Latrobe Valley bested North East 10-6 on Saturday. North East opened scoring in the first after Ethan Simmons singled, scoring one run.

Latrobe Valley captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first when Simmons induced Conner Gray to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and an error scored two runs.

North East flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 6-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Jordan Daniel that drove in two.

Latrobe Valley responded with five runs on four hits to take an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the second. Coadhey Rebbechi doubled to drive in two. The next time up, Rebbechi walked, making the score 9-6 in the third.

Emily Glass started on the mound for Latrobe Valley, covering three and two-thirds innings with a pair of strikeouts. Duncan appeared in relief.

Simmons stepped on the mound first for North East. The starter surrendered six hits over two innings, striking out one and walking four.

Rebbechi and Gray were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Latrobe Valley. Joshua Smith went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the side in hits, while. Beau Saddington went 2-for-3. They had a strong eye at the plate with seven walks - two apiece for Rebbechi and Hunter Duncan. The defense turned one double play in the game.

Daniel and Simmons each collected two hits for North East while hitting back-to-back. Daniel led with three runs batted in, plus two out of six stolen bases on a 2-for-4 day.

Latrobe Valley 9, Bendigo 3

Latrobe Valley got the 9-3 win over Bendigo at Moe/Newborough Baseball Club. They scored in the first after Conner Gray grounded out, scoring one run.

Mason Strahan grounded out, which helped Bendigo tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. Latrobe Valley took a 5-1 lead in the top of the second on singles by Beau Saddington and Coadhey Rebbechi.

Latrobe Valley added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Hunter Duncan and Joshua Smith walked and an error scored another run.

Gray stepped on the bump first for Latrobe Valley. The pitcher gave up zero hits and one run over one inning, striking out two and walking one. Saddington, Smith, and Ryan Matthews each appeared in relief.

Bendigo starter Russell Barham gave up six hits and eight runs (six earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out two and walking six.

Rebbechi drove the middle of the lineup, leading Latrobe Valley with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Max Hinchcliffe went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Duncan led Latrobe Valley with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, totaling 14 walks for the game. Hinchcliffe stole three bases while the defense turned one double play in the game.

Evan Lindsay led Bendigo with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Hayden Harrington, Lindsay, and Benjamin Hodson each collected one hit while Georgia Lovell (Brown) paced the side with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Hodson had two out of seven stolen bases.

North East 13, City West 10

Harlen Gambier drove in four runs on two hits to lead North East past City West 13-10 on Saturday. Gambier doubled in the first, scoring two, walked in the second, scoring one, and doubled in the third,d scoring one.

North East collected five hits and City West had six in the high-scoring game. City West got on board in the top of the first after Isaac Davis doubled to center field, Luke Flecknoe walked, and Graeme Stokes walked, each scoring one run.

North East flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs to take the lead, 5-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Gambier that drove in two.

City West responded with five of their own in the top of the second, making it 8-5 after four hits, including a 2-RBI double by Samuel Perez.

The back-and-forth battle continued as North East made it 10-8 in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on two hits. Gambier took a bases-loaded walk to bring a runner home. They added to their lead after Gambier doubled, Mack Cannan grounded into a fielder's choice, and Harry Williams grounded out, each scoring one run in the third.

North East starter Jordan Daniel allowed two hits and five runs (two earned) over one inning, striking out two and walking four. Rory Clark and Bodie Cahill each appeared in relief.

Stokes led things off on the mound for City West, giving up one hit and five runs.

Lucas Hoare paced North East with three out of the team's 13 walks, while Cahill stole three bases with eight total in the game. The defense didn't make any errors as Cahill had the most chances in the field with six.

Perez provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading City West with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Davis led the team with three hits in three at-bats, while Flecknoe led had a team-high two walks (six total). Kit Kinder, Mason Cvetanoski, and Davis each stole multiple bases with 12 overall. City West didn't make any fielding errors as Saurav Mittal had the most chances with four.
