Korean pitching too strong for Australia

Baseball Victoria
29 July 2017

Australia found themselves on the end of a red hot pitching performance, as Korea came away with an 8-0 victory at the U12 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan.

Korea’s pitching was outstanding on the day, only giving up three Australian baserunners, with Queenslander Oscar Hyde claiming the only hit of the ballgame for the Aussies.

SA’s Jack Hutton was the starting pitcher on the day for Australia and certainly showed glimpses of brilliance, including an inning ending strikeout which kept the Koreans at bay early in the ballgame.

Jye Burns and Kyan Roach were the only other Australians to reach base care of a walk each, as the Aussies ran into a red-hot Korean pitching staff who have only given up one run in their 12 defensive innings so far at the tournament.

A pair of double plays were the defensive highlights for Australia, however Korea showed why they will be one of the teams to beat, scoring consistently to come away with their first win of the tournament.

Australia’s next game at the #U12WorldCup will see them take on Germany on Sunday 30 July at 12pm AEST. You can keep up with the live scoring on the Baseball Live App.

Check out assistant coach Shayne Watson chatting with Jye Burns (NSW) and Jack Hutton (SA) after the game.
