Pool D result: Macarthur 16, Eastern Athletics 5
Damian Eagles drove in four runs to help Macarthur down Eastern Athletics 16-5 in their #AJLC2018 Pool D opener.
Macarthur jumped to a 7-1 lead after two innings and wrapped up the contest with a nine-run fifth.
Connor O’Sullivan, Bailey Senior and Toby Hughes finished with two hits each.
Earlier, Jimin Lee hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to two.

8.25pm Waves hold off Metro to claim Day 1 win
Pool B: Adelaide Waves 14, Brisbane Metro 11
Adelaide Waves held off Brisbane Metro to record a 14-10 victory on Day 1 of #AJLC2018.
Metro pulled within two runs on the back off a five-run sixth, but the Waves put two runs on in the bottom-half of the inning and denied a seventh-inning rally by Brisbane.
Adelaide scored four runs in each of the first, second and fifth innings.
Tyson Schunke led the way with three runs batted in.
Jackson Grounds and Gabriel Valdez Cadena both homed for Metro.
Adelaide Waves held off Brisbane Metro to record a 14-10 victory on Day 1 of #AJLC2018.
Metro pulled within two runs on the back off a five-run sixth, but the Waves put two runs on in the bottom-half of the inning and denied a seventh-inning rally by Brisbane.
Adelaide scored four runs in each of the first, second and fifth innings.
Tyson Schunke led the way with three runs batted in.
Jackson Grounds and Gabriel Valdez Cadena both homed for Metro.
5.50pm Stivey stars as Aces use long ball to knock off FNC
Pool D result: Swan Hills Aces 22, Far North Coast 11
Swan Hills Aces used the long ball to overcome Far North Coast 22-11 in their Pool D clash at #AJLC2018.
Maddux Stivey homered four times, Taj Schofield hit a grand slam and Max Chipper also went deep as the Aces recovered from an early 8-0 deficit.
Schofield’s grand slam cut the Far North Coast’s eight-run lead in half, before Stivey’s first reduced the lead to 8-7.
Stivey and Chipper then homered back-to-back in the third, making it 10-10.
Stivey went deep twice more, finishing with 10 runs batted in.
Cooper Olive homered and doubled for Far North Coast.

Chaise Chabi’s two-run double lifted Cronulla to an 11-10 walk-off win over Northern Metros on Day 1 of #AJLC2018.
Chabi capped off the comeback win with a two-out double after Cronulla earlier erased a 5-1 deficit.
Cronulla took the lead for the first time in the fifth but fell behind again as the Metros plated three runs in the sixth.
But Chabi stepped up to drive home the winning runs after Anthony Tsoukarellis and Trent Jamieson doubled with two out.
Earlier, Jack Wintergreene homered for the Metros as they opened up a 5-1 lead.

Pool C: Adelaide Pirates 8, Ryde Hawks 7
Adelaide Pirates scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to record a dramatic walk-off win over Ryde Hawks on Diamond 2.
The Pirates trailed 7-2 entering the bottom of the seventh in their first game of #AJLC2018, before a stunning comeback.
Jay Couzner, Noah Rogers and Cooper Mitchell drove in runs to draw Adelaide level.
Mitchell then scored on a fielder’s choice to lift the Pirates to victory.
Earlier, the two starting pitchers were superb.
Hawks’ starter Aidan Miller struck out nine, while Adelaide counterpart Matthew George also punched out nine.

Nikau Pouaka-Grego homered and finished a single shy of a cycle as Twins defeated Brisbane North 15-5 on Day 1 of #AJLC2018.
Pouaka-Grego and Jaycob Pascuzzi went deep back-to-back in the bottom of the fifth as the Twins racked up a solid opening win in Pool A.
Harrison Fitzgerald also drove in three runs for the Twins.

Southern Mariners used a late fightback to edge Central Firebirds 8-5 in a thrilling opener to Pool C action at #AJLC2018.
The Mariners scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead after Jacob Dickinson’s two-run homer in the sixth cut the deficit to two runs.
Nick Bertucci then shut the door with a pair of seventh-inning strikeouts to complete a thrilling comeback win.
Earlier, the Firebirds used a four-run fourth to race to a 5-1 lead.

Stephen Courtney homered twice and Clayton Campbell also went deep as Hills completed an impressive 19-2 win over Canberra in their Pool A clash at #AJLC2018.
Campbell opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first and Courtney went deep twice in the third inning.
Courtney hit a solo shot to leadoff the third and added a three-run shot to centre field as Hills batted around.
The homers headlined an impressive win by Hills, which added eight runs in each of the second and third frames.
Canberra put up a couple of runs in the top of the third on a single from pinch-hitter Oliver Hansen.
