7.30pm Hills claim second-straight gold

Gold medal game result: Hills 13, Macarthur 3

Hills withstood a plucky Macarthur to claim its second-straight Australian Junior League Championship proudly presented by Bendigo Bank on Friday night.

The defending champions prevailed 13-3 at Adelaide Shores Baseball Complex, earning the right to again represent Australia Region as the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan, later this year.

The defending champions prevailed 13-3 at Adelaide Shores Baseball Complex, earning the right to again represent Australia Region as the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan, later this year.

5.55pm Eastern Athletics and Cronulla share ninth spot

Ninth-place playoff result: Eastern Athletics 4, Cronulla 4

Lochlann O’Connor’s fifth-inning single was not enough to lift Eastern Athletics to a ninth-place finish at #AJLC2018, as Cronulla and the clock denied them.

O’Connor put the Athletics ahead 4-3 after they drew level on an RBI-triple from Nicholas Parton.

But Jake Quinlivan scored to bring Cronulla level in the bottom of the fifth before the two-hour time limit was reached with the scores tied.

4.00pm Swan Hills claim bronze at #AJLC2018

Bronze medal game result: Swan Hills Aces 15, Twins 0

Swan Hills Aces used the long ball to record an emphatic win over Twins in the #AJLC2018 bronze medal game on Diamond 1.

Maddux Stivey went deep twice – including a grand slam in the second inning – while Elijah Hewett, Max Chipper and Kai Cahill also homered in a 15-0 win.

Chipper’s two-run homer in the first opened the scoring, before Cahill doubled the Aces’ advantage with a two-run blast of his own.

Swan Hills then piled on 10 runs in the bottom of the second.

Chipper struck out five on the mound, allowing two hits.

3.25pm Firebirds finish in 11th following win over Ryde

11th-place playoff result: Central Firebirds 13, Ryde Hawks 0

Patrick Temby had three RBIs as Central Firebirds collected 11th spot at #AJLC2018 with a 13-0 win over Ryde Hawks.

Temby’s RBI-single capped off a four-run first inning for the Firebirds, who never looked back.

Central added runs in each frame they were required to bat.

Temby also impressed on the mound, not giving up a hit in three innings while striking out five.

Caleb Goodwin had three hits for the Firebirds.

1.50pm Pirates finish fifth on stellar start from George

Fifth-place playoff result: Adelaide Pirates 13, Southern Mariners 0

A strong start by Matthew George and steady offensive production propelled Adelaide Pirates to a fifth-place finish at #AJLC2018.

George punched out nine in five scoreless innings as the Pirates prevailed 13-0 against the Southern Mariners on Diamond 1.

Adelaide Pirates jumped to a 3-0 lead and extended it in the second, headlined by an RBI-double from Jet Clohessy.

Clohessy, George and Jordan Hodges all picked up a pair of hits.

13th-place playoff result: Northern Metros 9, Far North Coast 6

Northern Metros scored seven runs in the second to triumph over Far North Coast and finished 13th at #AJLC2018.

The Metros turned an early 2-0 deficit into a lead and held FNC at bay on the back of strong pitching from Tyson Le Quesne.

Le Quesne struck out six, allowing one earned run, in 5 1/3 innings.

Joshua Davies drove in a couple of runs for Metros.


Northern Metros scored seven runs in the second to triumph over Far North Coast and finished 13th at #AJLC2018.

The Metros turned an early 2-0 deficit into a lead and held FNC at bay on the back of strong pitching from Tyson Le Quesne.

Le Quesne struck out six, allowing one earned run, in 5 1/3 innings.

Joshua Davies drove in a couple of runs for Metros.


11.20am Zaryc the hero as Brisbane Metro claim seventh spot

Seventh-place playoff result: Brisbane Metro 10, Adelaide Waves 9

Ryne Zaryc hit a grand slam and drove in the winning run as Brisbane Metro claimed seventh spot at #AJLC2018.

Metro took a first-inning lead on Zaryc’s slam, before walking off 10-9 after Adelaide Waves tied the ballgame in the top of the seventh.

Brisbane North starter Callum Wallace made life difficult for the Waves early, striking out 10 in three innings.

Caylan Van Hilst drove in three runs for Brisbane North.

Zac Becker finished with four runs batted in for the Waves, including two on a single in the top of the seventh.


Ryne Zaryc hit a grand slam and drove in the winning run as Brisbane Metro claimed seventh spot at #AJLC2018.

Metro took a first-inning lead on Zaryc’s slam, before walking off 10-9 after Adelaide Waves tied the ballgame in the top of the seventh.

10.45am Brisbane North seal 15th-place finish

15th-place playoff result: Brisbane North 12, Canberra 5

Brisbane North used a late flurry of runs to down Canberra 12-5 and claim a 15th-place finish at #AJLC2018.

North took the lead with a six-run fourth and padded their advantage with a four-run fifth.

Starter Joel Hogan struck out eight in four and 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run.

Eddie Crotty powered the offence, driving in four runs on three hits.

Enzo Moriguchi also had three hits.


Brisbane North used a late flurry of runs to down Canberra 12-5 and claim a 15th-place finish at #AJLC2018.

North took the lead with a six-run fourth and padded their advantage with a four-run fifth.

Starter Joel Hogan struck out eight in four and 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run.

8.00am It's a big day ahead!

Day 6 of #AJLC2018 presented by Bendigo Bank will determine the final standings for each of the 16 charters involved. And, in the final game of the day, Hills and Macarthur will battle for gold and the chance to represent the Australia region at this year's Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan.
