Baseball Victoria Hall of Fame Players: Amy McCann

Amy McCann (player)

Amy McCann began her career in the VBA Women’s Division 1 League in 2001 and carved out one of the most decorated careers in Australian women’s baseball, earning recognition and medals at every level of the sport.

She made her National Championships debut in 2002 with Victoria Provincial, winning bronze, before representing Victoria at 11 Championships between 2003 and 2013. During that time, the outfielder played a key role in Victoria’s success, winning seven national titles, two silver, and two bronze medals. She was named to the Nationals All-Star Team in her final appearance in 2013.

McCann’s 12-year national team career began as part of Australia’s gold medal-winning side at the 2002 World Series, followed by the 2004 World Series in Japan. When the bi-annual World Cup format was introduced in 2004, she was one of only five players worldwide to compete in the first six editions (2004–2014). McCann played a pivotal role in Australia’s silver medal finish at the 2010 World Cup in Venezuela and remains one of only three Victorians to feature in both of Australia’s World Cup medal-winning teams (silver in 2010 and bronze in 2014).

McCann is the only Australian player to be selected twice to an All-World Team — first at the 2004 World Series and again at the 2006 World Cup, both times as an Outfielder. She was named Baseball Australia Female Baseballer of the Year in 2006.

In 2005, she joined Hamilton in Japan, playing semi-professionally for Taiken Wellness of Tokyo College. A proud member of Doncaster Baseball Club, McCann became the second woman to reach 350 club games. She has won four Premier League premierships and holds the record for the most Victorian Women’s Premier League Hitting Awards in history. Off the field, McCann founded Melbourne’s junior girls league in 2004 and coached the first Baseball Victoria Under-15 team in 2005 and 2006.
