The recent WBSC World Baseball Softball Congress in Botswana is vital to the continual development of the sport, with multiple Australian representatives making the trip to Africa.
Key outcomes from the WBSC Congress were the unanimous approval of new statutes, electing new leaders to the WBSC Baseball division, and the increased global expansion of WBSC members.
Baseball Australia CEO Cam Vale was joined at the congress by a number of key stakeholders including Ron Finlay, Justin Huber and Narelle Gosstray.
Finlay, a former Baseball Australia president, was reappointed as Chairman of the Legal Commission and was confirmed as Member at Large for the WBSC Executive Board until 2021.
Current Baseball Victoria CEO Justin Huber will serve as a Baseball Athlete represented on the Executive Member Board of the WBSC until 2021, while Gosstray, the operations manager for Diamonds in the Rough and program coordinator for the Australian Emeralds, will act as a member of the WBSC Women’s Baseball Commission panel.
Baseball Australia CEO Cam Vale believes the future is bright for baseball on the world stage.
“It was an honour to attend my first WBSC Congress on behalf of Baseball Australia, particularly with our strong representation on the WBSC Executive Committee,” Vale said.
“I was very impressed with the plans outlined by the leadership team at the WBSC, with significant focus on both our re-admittance as an Olympic sport, as well as the growth of the sport as a whole.”
