Baseball Australia can today reveal the 64 athletes named to the 2018 Australian MLB Invitational, which will take place in Lismore, NSW between August 25 and September 1.
The Australian MLB Invitational is designed to allow the best 13 and 14 year old players in the country to play competitive games under the guise of both local and international coaches on home soil, and will be heavily subsidized by MLB to maximise player attendance.
After a solid debut on the Australian baseball calendar in 2017, General Manager - Team Australia Glenn Williams believes the standard of the baseball will continue to grow.
“The success of last year’s program made the decision to run it again in 2018 an easy one for Baseball Australia and MLB,” Williams said.
“We saw a solid increase in state showcase events, with nearly 500 boys and girls taking part all over the country.
“The support of MLB for young players seeking further opportunities is a big asset for baseball in Australia. It’s great to be able to offer young people opportunities like this and we are excited to get them all into camp and working throughout the week.
“Baseball Australia and MLB are dedicated to continue to provide more opportunities for more players.”
The structure will mirror the 2017 edition, with the squad split into four teams, and each team playing five games across the week.
For the first time ever, there will be four players from New Zealand added to the Invitational squad. Those players will be confirmed closer to the event.
