Team Australia will face Canada, Cuba and defending champions Korea in the opening round of the 2019 Premier12 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.
After failing to qualify for the Premier12 in 2015, Australia’s world ranking climbed from 13 in 2015, to a current record high of seventh in the world.
The Premier12 will begin on November 2 and will feature the top-12 ranked teams as per the World Baseball Softball Confederation rankings.
As well as being Team Australia’s debut at the Premier12, the 15-day tournament will double as the first opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games.
Team Australia General Manager Glenn Williams sees this as a crucial opportunity to enhance Australia's international reputation.
“After narrowly missing out on a spot in the 2015 edition, there has been a concerted effort to ensuring Australia would represented in 2019,” Williams said.
“A lot of hard work across the entire national team program has put us in this position and it is an honour to be confirmed in the event.
"We have an opportunity to secure Olympic qualification at the Premier12, and we will be doing everything in our power to get an Australian team to Tokyo2020."
The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Round, which will take place in Japan.
Guadalaraja, Mexico will be the venue for Group A, hosting Mexico, the USA, the Netherlands and Dominican Republic. Chinese Taipei, Japan, Venezuela and Puerto Rico make up Group B, and will be based in Taichung, Taiwan.
