Genevieve Beacom is a force to be reckoned with on the field. She’s a standout pitcher in her own right, and a talented fielder and hitter too.
At the age of 15-years-old Genevieve has already accomplished some amazing things, including pitching at the 2017 Carl Ripken World Series in the U.S. She’s hoping to add some more accolades to her name this year, especially as the 2019/20 VSBL season comes to an end.
Playing for Sandringham Royals Baseball Club in the U16 State and Division 1 Thirds competition, Genevieve is getting lots of practice as she strives to continuing improving her skills. With plenty of opportunities for training and game time, Genevieve loves the atmosphere at Sandringham. “We’re a great club, we include everyone,” Genevieve said. “I look forward to playing with my friends and seeing how the club goes altogether.”
Sandringham’s thirds are currently 6-7 and hoping to make a late push into the finals picture, while the U16 State team sits in third with an 8-1-2 record after going undefeated through the first nine rounds.
Regardless of what happens as finals approach, Genevieve is grateful for the opportunity to play the game she loves and keep building her skills. “My goals are to train hard, play hard and see what I can get out of this season.”
While making VSBL finals would be great, there’s no shortage of excitement in Genevieve’s baseball journey as she just wrapped up her time at the 2020 Australian U16 Youth Championships with the Victoria Blue team. She’s also been named to the 2020 Victorian Women’s state team, a testament to her determination and the bright future ahead of her.
She tries to always maintain a positive attitude whether it’s a great win or a tough loss, which makes a difference as she takes the field for the Royals every week. “I think to succeed we just need to play together and keep out head up at all times and try to stick together even if it’s not going our way,” Genevieve said. “It’s always going to be fun to play with other people and get involved.”
Genevieve thrives in competitive settings with her teammates, and she strongly encourages others to get involved and see what baseball is all about. “There’s a lot of options where you can play different positions, and you can be around people you like,” Genevieve said. “Hard work pays off, you’ve just got to keep with it.”
Sandringham plays Cheltenham, Geelong and Waverley over the next three weeks in the U16 State competition, while the Division 1 Thirds face Cheltenham.

Baseball Victoria is pleased to announce the 2020 Women’s State Team.
Baseball Victoria has elected to send a single team to represent the state at the 2020 Australian Women’s Championships from 10-17 April in Canberra. This is a shift from previous years selections; with development players added to the primary team and an extended squad to maintain the pathway for Victorian women’s baseball.
“We came to this decision after much thought and careful consideration regarding the current state of our women’s program,” Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton said. “We strongly believe it is in the best interests of the Women’s State Team program to send one women’s team this year. This team combines both experienced and developing players, we wanted to ensure our single team was strong and set up for success.”
The 2020 Women’s State Team includes a host of current Emeralds players including six members of the 2018 Australian team and a further four that attended the Bendigo Challenge in October 2019. The team is rounded out by a group of young players who will gain significant experience and exposure to a high level of competition as part of Baseball Victoria’s commitment to building a promising future for the Women’s State Team Program.
Dean Anglin, Head Coach of the Women’s State Team, says he has created a team to chase back-to-back titles after Victoria Women’s Blue won the 2019 Australian Women’s Championships. “Australian Emerald Bronwyn Gell returns and some of Victoria’s best young talent has been added to the team including Genevieve Beacom who is currently playing at the junior nationals and Lili Cavanagh who was tough to miss 2019 through injury,” Anglin said. “We expect nationals to be a strong competition leading into the World Cup in Mexico later this year so we will prepare as best we can to defend our title.”

The 2020 Australian Youth Championships opening round will wrap up across Geelong Baseball Centre and Melbourne Ballpark today.
Queensland and Western Australia (both 4-1) enter the day best placed to play for gold in the U18 competition but Victoria Blue isn't far behind at 4-2. All up six teams remain in contention for fight for a medal on Wednesday.
