Hills Blue and Macarthur maintained their perfect records on Day 3 of the 2019 Australian Senior League Championship in Lismore.

Hills overcame Brisbane Metro and Damian Eagles tossed a complete game shutout for Macarthur in an impressive win of the Adelaide Titans.

Western Suns 15, Sunraysia Giants 5 | Box Score

Western Suns wrapped up pool play at #ASLC2019 with a 2-1 record following an impressive 15-5 win over Sunraysia Giants.

The Suns scored nine runs in the second to break the contest open.

Daniel Carter finished with a team-high three RBI, while Tyson Noel, Dustin Brown and Trent Daniele drove in two runs each.

Western Suns starter Andrew Hurrelbrink struck out three in two scoreless innings.

Cody Morrish’s two-run double in the fifth helped the Giants cut the deficit to 10.

 

Manly 8, Twins 5 | Box Score

Manly held off a fast-finishing Twins to prevail 8-5 on Diamond 2 in their Pool B finale in Lismore.

A six-run second inning put Manly out to a comfortable lead before Twins chipped away before falling short.

Luke Brown drove in three runs for Manly and finished with two hits along with Caden Crouch.

Bailey Marcola drove in two runs for Twins.

Relief pitcher Tim Liersch finished with four strikeouts for Twins.

Manly improved its record to 2-1 following the win.

 

Hills Blue 8, Brisbane Metro 3 | Box Score

Hills Blue overturned an early deficit against Brisbane Metro to remain unbeaten following pool play.

A three-run third inning put Hills on top on their way to an 8-3 win on diamond two.

William Edwards and Riley Watson both drove in two runs for Hills Blue.

Joshua Anthony had two hits for Brisbane Metro.

Hills take on Twins in the quarter final stage while Metro meet Manly.

 

Macarthur 4, Adelaide Titans 0 | Box Score

Macarthur starting pitcher Damian Eagles tossed a complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over Adelaide Titans to seal top spot in Pool B

Eagles struck out three hitters and gave up just three hits in a dominant seven inning outing.

Jacob Veres put Macarthur on top with a two-out RBI-single in the first inning

They added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal a third win in as many attempts.

Owen Glover finished with two runs batted in to provide offensive support for Eagles.

Macarthur will face Sunraysia Giants in a quarter final on Wednesday.

The losses on Day 3 of the 2019 Australian Senior League Championships to Sunraysia and Twins mean

that our Victorian representatives have finished in the bottom two of their pools but there’s still plenty more action to

come on Day 4 as finals begin!

 

Twins 5, Manly 8 I Box Score

 

Manly Takes Early Lead In Victory Over Twins

 

Manly defeated Twins 8-5 thanks to a strong start. Manly scored on a walk by Joshua Beezley, a

fielder's choice during Zac Newbold at bat, a double by Luke Brown , and a double by Caden Crouch in

the second inning.

 

Manly pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Beezey drew a walk, scoring

one run, Alex Pham's wild pitch allowed one run to score for ManlyBrown doubled on a 2-1 count,

scoring three runs, and Crouch doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

 

Max Milner got the start for Manly. They went one and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on one hit,

striking out one and walking one.

 

Pham started the game for Twins. They allowed three hits and five runs over one and two-thirds

innings. Tim Liersch and Zachary Gorman entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third

innings and two innings respectively.

 

Manly tallied seven hits on the day. Crouch and Brown each collected multiple hits

for ManlyBrown and Crouch each collected two hits to lead Manly.

 

Twins was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. McLeod Sell made the most plays with six.

Hills Blue and Macarthur will enter the final day of pool play at the 2019 Australian Senior League Championship undefeated.

The New South Wales duo improved to 2-0 on Day 2 of action in Lismore, while Brisbane Metro and Adelaide Titans collected their first win of the tournament.

Hills Blue 6, Western Suns 5 | Box Score

Hills Blue moved to 2-0 at #ASLC2019 following a 6-5 victory over Western Suns on Diamond 2 on Monday.

Blue scored a pair of the runs in the sixth to take the lead.

Will Edwards singled to tie the ballgame ahead of Riley Watson scoring on an error.

Edwards struck out three in two relief innings and finished with three hits offensively.

Hills Blue starter Tom Stancic also had three hits and three strikeouts.

Suns’ starter Joshua Dass punched out three batters in four innings.

 

Macarthur 6, Manly 5 | Box Score

Macarthur rode a five run fifth inning to a thrilling 6-5 win over New South Wales counterparts Manly on Diamond 1 in Lismore.

Logan Harris, Jacob Veres, Christopher Fraietta and Bailey Senior drove in runs as Macarthur overturned a 5-1 deficit to stay undefeated at #ASLC2019.

Jack Bennetts earlier drove in a run and finished with two hits.

Thomas Butler and Jacob Wander recorded RBIs for Manly.

Macarthur starter Drew Ferris worked 2 1/3 innings, finishing with four strikeouts.

 

Brisbane Metro 17, Sunraysia Giants 5 | Box Score

Brisbane Metro notched its first win of #ASLC2019 with a comfortable 17-5 triumph over Sunraysia Giants on Diamond 2.

John Lemm, Caylan Van Hilst and Damon Orr each had three RBI as Metro recorded its first win in Pool A.

A seven-run first got Brisbane off to a dream start after falling to Western Suns on Day 1 in Lismore.

A five-run third was icing on the cake.

Van Hilst and Billy Richters finished with three hits each.

Cody Morrish drove in two runs for the Giants.

Brisbane Metro faces Hills Blue tomorrow in its final Pool A contest.

 

Adelaide Titans 13, Twins 6 | Box Score

Adelaide Titans rallied late to down Twins 13-6 and claim their first win of #ASLC2019.

The Titans scored nine runs in the top of the seventh after entering the frame down 6-4.

Boyd Worden’s RBI-single pulled Adelaide level ahead of Ryan Przibilla giving them the lead.

Carter Powell, Ethan Lucas, Riley Yeatman and Connor McLeod collected hits to add to the Titans’ advantage.

Przibilla finished with three runs batted in.

Keenan Spence drove in three runs for Twins.

Twenty-five Australian players aged 15-18 will compete against some the best emerging talent in the US in Fort Myers, Florida, this week.

The squad will play exhibition games ahead of taking part in the invite-only WWBA 18U East Memorial Day Classic under a partnership with Perfect Game, the biggest tournament and showcase operator in the US.

Team Australia general manager Glenn Williams said the trip was a fantastic opportunity for the 25 young athletes.

“Gaining international pathway opportunities is something that is high on the agenda of the majority of our young athletes,” Williams said.

“This trip and the opportunity to partner with Perfect Game will be a great opportunity for those on the trip.
“Access to amazing facilities, the ability to compete against some of the best young players in the US and to do that in front of recruiters and scouts from colleges and professional teams will highlight the trip.”

Williams, Shayne Watson (QLD), Mark Shipley (NSW) and Adam Courcha (WA) will lead the 25-strong squad.

The squad touched down in the US over the weekend and will take part in the WWBA 18U East Memorial Day Classic from May 24-27.

In a correction to the previously circulated information, Baseball Victoria is pleased to announce the final nominees for the 2019/20 Victorian Summer Baseball League Pennant Committee, subject to final ratification by the Baseball Victoria Board of Directors.

All members from the 2018/19 Committee are committed to returning. Chairman Michael Gourlay, Kelsey Quinn, Stewart Howe, and fellow VSBL club-voted members Dwain Richardson, Jake Sinclair and John King, with the potential inclusion of club-voted member Jason Blair, join the list of nominees. This will bring the VSBL Pennant Committee to a total of seven members, up from six in the previous year. Together the Pennant Committee will work to ensure a safe and fair VSBL competition for all.

After a successful 2018/19 season, the VSBL Pennant Committee is looking to continue to use their expertise and enthusiasm to improve the VSBL competition. Richardson is an experienced junior coach and current president of Upwey Ferntree Gully Baseball Club who has also played, scored and umpired. Sinclair is a member of Newport Baseball Club who has significant playing and coaching experience and a passion for serving the Victorian baseball community, while King is the current president of Fitzroy Lions Baseball Club and he has been heavily involved in improving the sport over the past decades. Blair has been instrumental in the governing of the Baseball Victoria junior competitions and events.

Strong showings from both Sunraysia and Twins were admirable, however they each couldn't keep their opponents down in particular innings, and therefore see themselves stranded at the bottom of the table to end Day 2.

Early Lead For Brisbane Metro Seals Fate For Sunraysia Giants

Sunraysia Giants watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 19-5 loss to Brisbane Metro on Sunday. Brisbane Metro scored on a single by Caylan Van Hilst, a walk by Dante Holdsworth, a triple by Damon Orr, and a single by Billy Richters in the first inning.

The Sunraysia Giants struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Brisbane Metro, giving up 19 runs.

Brisbane Metro fired up the offense in the first inning. Van Hilst drove in two when he singled.

Sunraysia Giants tallied three runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught by Sunraysia Giants was led by Ronan Scott and Cody Morrish, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Zac Merson was on the pitcher's mound for Brisbane Metro. They surrendered zero runs on two hits over two innings, striking out two and walking one.

Lindsay Barbary started the game for Sunraysia Giants. They went one and one-third innings, allowing ten runs on seven hits. Bailey Edgar and Morrish entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively.

Sunraysia Giants saw the ball well today, racking up seven hits in the game. Coby Mitchell and Morrish each collected multiple hits for Sunraysia Giants. Morrish and Mitchell each collected two hits to lead Sunraysia Giants.

Brisbane Metro racked up 15 hits on the day. John Lemm, Richters, and Van Hilst all had multiple hits for Brisbane Metro.

Adelaide Titans 13, Twins 6 I Box Score

Twins Drops Game To Adelaide Titans After Late Score

Twins stayed in it until the end, but Adelaide Titans pulled away late in a 13-6 victory on Monday. The game was tied at six with Adelaide Titans batting in the top of the seventh when  singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Despite the loss, Twins did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Adelaide Titans had 12 hits on the way to victory.

Twins fired up the offense in the first inning, when Kody Dertell drew a walk, scoring one run.

After Adelaide Titans scored one run in the top of the second, Twins answered with one of their own. Adelaide Titans scored when Boyd Worden drew a walk, scoring one run. Twins then answered when Keenan Spence doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Ethan Badcock toed the rubber for Adelaide Titans. They went two innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one.

Bailey Marcola led things off on the pitcher's mound for Twins. They allowed one hit and one run over two and a third innings. Jaycob PascuzziConnor SchibeciTim Liersch, and McLeod Sell each entered the game as relief, throwing two and two-thirds innings, one inning, two-thirds of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.

Twins totaled eight hits. Spence and Sell each had multiple hits for TwinsSell and Spenceeach collected two hits to lead Twins.

Adelaide Titans tallied 12 hits in the game. WordenRiley Yeatman, Carter Powell, and Przibilla all managed multiple hits for Adelaide TitansPowell led Adelaide Titans with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with seven stolen bases.

Our two Victorian teams, Twins and Sunraysia, will look to achieve their first victories of the 2019 Australian Senior League Championship in Lismore on Day 2 after tough opening-day losses.

Veres’ two-run homer in the third put the NSW charter up 4-2.

A five-run fourth pushed their lead to 9-4.

Manly 2, Adelaide Titans 1 | Box Score

Joshua Beezley’s sixth-inning RBI-single lifted Manly to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Adelaide Titans in the opening game of the 2019 Australian Senior League Championships in Lismore.

Beezley broke a 1-1 tie, driving home Max Milner (single) to help Manly open its Pool B account.

Strong pitching was the highlight of a low scoring battle.

Luke Brown collected three of Manly’s five strikeouts and Titans starter Connor McLeod punched out six hitters.

Zac Newbold put Manly on top in the bottom of the first, driving home Beezley (single) with a none-out double.

Riley Yeatman’s RBI-single pulled Adelaide level in the top of the fourth.

Yeatman finished with two hits for the Titans.

Beezley had two for Manly.

Manly faces Macarthur on Day 2, while Adelaide squares off with Twins.

Brisbane then scored two more to regain the lead before Western Suns added another three runs.

The Suns then padded their advantage, scoring a run in the third and fourth.

Maddux Stivey drove home a game-high three runs on a single and triple.

He also struck out five after starting on the mound for Western.

Ashton Hamilton and Bailey-Jay Cooke joined Stivey with multi-hit games for the Suns.

Joshua Anthony, Jackson Grounds and John Lemm collected two hits each for Metro.
