Baseball Victoria Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Meghan Mayman to fill a casual vacancy on the Board, effective from the next BV Board meeting on Monday, 27th May 2019.
Meghan joins the Board with more than a decade of experience in various sports management roles. As a driven and dedicated professional with proven results in operations, stakeholder relations and project management, she will make a terrific addition to our organisation.
Meghan obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sport Coaching and Administration from Deakin University, followed by a Master of Business in Sport Management. As part of her Master’s Program, she was selected to participate in the San Diego Sports Consulting Project in July 2015, during which she delivered a report and presentation to MLB team San Diego Padres on leveraging the 2016 All-Star Event to maintain current partnerships and attract new sponsors.
After working as Operations and HR Manager for Bowls Australia from 2007-2015, Meghan spent the past four years as the General Manager of Vicsport, the peak body for sport and active recreation in Victoria. She was responsible for the overall operations of the organisation, including direct delivery of projects and membership retention and growth. Meghan has successfully delivered projects focused on female professional development, leadership, retention and more. This experience has prepared her for her newest role on the BV Board. “My time at Vicsport has allowed me to develop a deep knowledge of current trends across Victorian sport and good governance practices, which I look forward to applying to Baseball Victoria,” Meghan said. “I’m excited to join an experienced Board alongside Directors and staff who are passionate about providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for any Victorian to play baseball.”
Having served on the Baseball Victoria Women and Girls Working Group, Meghan says she is impressed with Baseball Victoria thus far and she aims to continue the progress in the future. “I’m ready to contribute my knowledge and experience to increase the opportunities to play baseball for all Victorians.”
Myles Foreman, President of Baseball Victoria, said Meghan will make a fantastic addition to the Board of Directors. “Given her experience, expertise and enthusiasm, Meghan is well-suited to the Baseball Victoria Board, and she will bring added value and insight to our organisation as we continue to make improvements to ensure a bright future for baseball in Victoria.”
History was made on the Gold Coast last night with Australia’s first-ever game of Baseball5 taking place at the Gold Coast Sports Festival 2019.
Baseball Australia and the WBSC joined forces to launch the new urban, youth-focussed discipline of the game in Australia and across Oceania.
Baseball5 is a five-on-five, five-inning street version of baseball and softball that can be played anywhere and by anyone with the only requirement a rubber ball.
Local Gold Coast school students helped launch the age and gender inclusive game on Thursday night, completing three games in an hour.
“It was a great opportunity to showcase Baseball5 in our own backyard on the Gold Coast,” Baseball Australia general manager of participation Mat Sundstrom said.
“Baseball5 is an exciting product and it was great to see it so well received by those who took part in and witnessed Thursday night’s games.
“Baseball5 can be played anywhere and by anyone and we’re really excited about its future in Australia.”
In addition to last night’s exhibition games, more than 150 students from Queensland Sports Schools had the chance to try out Baseball5 on Friday.
Lisa Norrie, Australia’s first accredited Baseball5 coach, took sessions with the students and introduced them to the game.
“The enthusiasm of the kids was mind-blowing,” Norrie said.
“They just loved it … the way they played the game was amazing and they really just loved it.
“It was great to see Baseball5 action in Australia.”
WBSC special projects coordinator Giovanni Pantaleoni said Baseball5 had been building since its global launch two years ago.
“It was great to see the fun they were having on the field and so many people on the sidelines watching being engaged by Baseball5,” Pantaleoni said.
“You can go on the street, a park, a basketball court or beach and just have fun playing Baseball5.”
Olympians and local little leaguers and school students were on hand on Wednesday night at the Opening Ceremony.

Baseball Australia today announces the official transfer of the licence of the Melbourne Aces Australian Baseball League (ABL) team to a consortium of investors, led by long-time supporters of baseball in Victoria, Brett and Shaun Ralph.
Baseball Australia chief executive Cam Vale was pleased the passionate supporters of baseball had committed to the Aces.
“Whilst the circumstances requiring the need to change are unfortunate due to the ill-health of the former licence holder, this consortium of investors stepping in on short notice is a credit to them in securing and ensuring the long-term future of the Melbourne Aces,” Vale said.
“Principal investors Brett and Shaun Ralph have been fantastic contributors to baseball and a range of sports in this country.
“To have them as the permanent licence holders of the Aces is a major coup for the sport in this country and another step forward for the Australian Baseball League.”
Brett Ralph said he was excited about the opportunity to continue growing baseball in Victoria.
“We have been involved with the sport of baseball and, in particular, the Melbourne Aces for many years,” Ralph said.
“We are passionate about the game and the opportunities that baseball has in Australia.”
“We are looking forward to enhancing the fan experience at Altona and to the Aces playing a leading role in the continued growth of baseball in Victoria.”
