A thrilling Day 7 of the Australian Women’s Championships saw plenty of tight games, with Western Australia and Victoria Blue both in the Open Women’s Championship game tomorrow. 

Congratulations to all Victorian teams on a truly wonderful tournament! We are so proud of all of their accomplishments!

Youth: WA 6-7 VIC | Box Score 

Victoria came back from six runs down to defeat Western Australia and take home the bronze medal of the Australian Youth Women’s Championships. 

In what was a thrilling match on Diamond 3, scores were tied at 6-6 until the bottom of the sixth, before Victoria’s Lilian Bell-Tanner hit a single to allow Zoe Allen to cross home plate for the winning run. 

Victoria’s Georgia Davis topped the RBI count for her team with two, whilst Bell-Tanner and Maddi Weller each finished with one. 

Western Australia were first on the board with four runs scored in their first innings, lead by Amity Collins’ two run single. 

A Jessica Knight single to score both Makayla George and Angela Mourtzios extended Western Australia’s lead to 6-0. 

But Victoria were not going down without a fight, scoring two quick runs in the bottom of the fourth. 

A big four run fifth innings by Victoria evened up the scores, as a couple of wild pitches proved costly for Western Australia.

South Australia continued their momentum with a hard fought 11-7 win over Victoria White on Diamond 2.

Ashleigh George lead the way with the bat for South Australia, finishing the game with three RBIs from three at bats.

Darna Veen started on the mound for the South Australians, pitching three innings for four strikeouts and three earned runs.

Victoria White were first on the board with a Kayla Adams single allowing Jasmine Bentley to cross home plate.

South Australia hit right back, piling on four runs in the bottom of the first.

It was a one run ballgame at the top of the fourth, as Victoria White clawed back a two runs to make it 4-3.

But South Australia responded straight away, as they rallied hard to pile on seven more runs and lead 11-5.

They allowed Victoria White to score two late runs at the top of the seventh, but still came away with a solid win.

Victoria White will face Queensland in the fifth place playoff tomorrow on Diamond 2 at 9am. 


Open: VICB 13-6 WA | Box Score

Victoria Blue remain the form team of the Open competition but were pushed by a spirited Western Australia, eventually winning 13-6 on Diamond 1.

It was a two run ballgame at the bottom of the sixth with the scores at 8-6, but Victoria Blue snatched victory with five runs scored at the start of the seventh.

Victoria Blue’s Abbey Kelly was the best with the bat, going for four hits off five at bats including two RBIs.

In what was a see-sawing affair, Western Australia started off perfectly with Rebecca Torpy hitting a single to score Meaghan Haggart. Kaila Borgomastro then scored off a wild pitch to put her team ahead 2-0.

Victoria Blue evened up the scores as Belinda Cannington and Vanessa Clifford both crossed the plate.

The two teams went run for run in the next couple of innings, before Victoria Blue’s offence started to kick into gear.

It was a Leslie Anglin double that kick started the big seventh innings for Victoria Blue.

YOUTH: QLD 17-13 WA | BOX SCORE 

The Queensland Youth side started the day very strongly, defeating Western Australia 17-13 on Diamond 3.

Queensland opened the scoring in their first inning, with runs coming to Hope Vankan and Hannah Marshall, to give themselves a 2-0 lead.

However, it was during the third and fourth innings where the Queensland girls asserted their authority on the match, piling on a total of 15 runs to lead 17-2.

The standout performers for Queensland include; Tamika Zamora – registering two runs, two hits and three RBI’s, Isabella Ramirez – two runs, two hits and three RBI’s, and Caydence Larmon – two runs, one hit and two RBI’s.

Although, at the bottom of the fourth inning Western Australia put up a gallant effort, hitting 11 of their own runs and reducing the margin to just four.

WA were unable to get an opportunity to complete the comeback as the game finished due to time regulations at the bottom of the fourth.

Ava Dixon was WA’s leading run scorer with three, while Faith Neretlis and Montanna Stirling were also key performers adding two runs each.

 

YOUTH: VIC 1-13 NSW | BOX SCORE 

New South Wales stormed to a convincing 13-1 win when they came up against Victoria in the Youth tournament.

The result looked settled early on, as NSW amassed 12 runs in the first two innings.

Olivia Bonello opened the scoring for New South Wales, following a Tallulah Lewis line drive double.

The scoring of NSW’s runs was evenly spread right throughout the team, with Emma Wallace, Taylor Napier, Rosalie Marcus, Michaela Bonser and Taylor Toni all adding two each.

Victoria’s sole run of the match came at the top of the second innings, when Madeleine Thiel grounded out, yet still allowed Chelsea Stewart to cross home plate.

After both finishing on top of the Youth tournament standings with a 7-1 record, New South Wales and Queensland will battle it out on Saturday for the Gold Medal.

 

YOUTH: WA 1-15 VIC | BOX SCORE 

In what was another one-sided game, Victoria put on a clinical performance against Western Australia.

Victoria sprung out to a 15-0 lead after the first two innings, making it difficult for WA early on.

Keeley Harrison ran in the first of the game for the Vic’s, opening the scoring following a wild pitch from Western Australian Ava Dixon.

Victoria then added another ten runs in the first innings and four more in the second.

Harrison and Maddi Weller were the most influential performers for Victoria, contributing three runs each to the team total.

Western Australia’s only run came in the third inning when Mia Davis scored, following a walk to teammate Amity Collins.

Victoria and Western Australia will once again face off at 9am in tomorrow’s Bronze Medal match.

Victoria finished the Youth pool play third on the standings with a 3-5 record, while WA finished just behind them with a record of 2-6.

 

YOUTH: IND 0-9 QLD | BOX SCORE 

A 9-0 Queensland victory against Indonesia in the last match of the Youth’s #AWC2019 schedule meant they finished top of the standings and will play in tomorrow’s Gold Medal Match against NSW.

However, unfortunately for Indonesia, the loss spelled the end of their 2019 Australian Women’s Championship campaign, in what was their debut appearance.

With Queensland claiming an early first innings lead through Allie Van Peppen, the team went on to add another six runs in the second inning.

Van Peppen, Brianna Ragau and Hope Vankan all contributed two runs each towards Queensland’s total.

Solo pitcher Caydence Larmon also proved to have a very effective game for Queensland by shutting-out Indonesia and pitching all five innings for four strikeouts.

 

OPEN: SA 20-6 QLD | BOX SCORE 

In what probably was South Australia’s best performance of the competition to date, they ran out convincing 20-6 winners over Queensland on Diamond 2.

However, it was Queensland who first jumped out of the box and claimed a 3-0 lead by the end of the first innings.

Madison Tough and Chloe Humphreys opened the scoring for Queensland following a Sophie Marriott line drive single. Luisa Guaci added their third run of the inning shortly after.

The South Australian’s then sprung to life in the second innings, opening their scoring account through Jessica Maslin and Eryn Shipp.

In a match defining period, South Australia piled on a stunning 12 runs at the top of the sixth inning, which gave them a 20-6 lead and therefore the win.

South Australia’s leading run scorers were Maslin with four, and Shipp and Natasha Strapps with three each.

South Australia face a doubleheader tomorrow during Day 7 action with match-ups against Victoria White and Queensland.

 

OPEN: WA 5-3 NSW | BOX SCORE 

In what was the game of the day, Western Australia pipped defending champions New South Wales to a stunning 5-3 come from behind win.

It was all NSW early on, as they rushed to a 3-0 lead in the first innings, thanks to runs from Ticara Geldenhuis, Jordan Richardson and Maddison Heath.

Western Australia added their first run of the match at the top of the third, when a Rebecca Torpy ground out allowed Kaila Borgomastro to cross home plate.

With New South Wales holding a handy 3-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, the game spun of its head when WA clasped the win at the death in a thrilling finale.

Borgomastro reduced the deficit to just one when she scored a run on Megan Everitt’s single. Torpy then levelled the scores between the two sides on Tamara Bosman’s ground ball.

In a climatic seventh inning, WA snatched a two-run lead thanks to Meaghan Haggart and Borgomastro.

NSW had the opportunity to force the game into extra innings with their final bat, however, were unable to do so.

After their loss earlier in the day to South Australia, Queensland were glad to get back on the winners list when they came up against a threatening Victoria White side.

Despite Queensland adding the first runs of the match in the second innings, Victoria White came out firing at the top of the third, piling on six quick runs.

Vic White’s key performers in the game were Amanda Torrington and with two runs, three hits and two RBI’s and Annette Curnow with two runs.

However, in Queensland’s fourth innings they crunched seven runs to take an 11-8 lead.

The Queenslander’s then added a further four runs in the sixth innings to put the game to bed.

Queensland had a fair spread of run scorers with Shiori Hoshino collecting three, while Madison Tough, Keely Henderson, Luisa Gauci and Courtney Low all added two each.

 

OPEN: VICB 16-2 NSW | BOX SCORE 

In what potentially could be the Gold Medal match-up on Sunday, Victoria Blue’s and New South Wales’ clash definitely didn’t disappoint.

Although the score line appears to have blown out, they game was neck and neck for the majority, with Victoria Blue holding a slender 3-2 advantage heading into the sixth inning before they hit an incredible 13 runs in the final innings of the game.

Victoria Blue coach, Dean Anglin, was incredibly impressed with his side’s performance and the ability to add a lot of runs in minimal time.

“It’s obviously huge for us to be able to score bunches of runs in piles” said Anglin during his post-match interview.

Following the win, Victoria Blue are now undefeated in the Open Women’s tournament, winning eight games from as many starts and are the first team to have booked themselves in Sunday’s Gold Medal match.

The key performers for Victoria Blue in the match include; Abbey Kelly with two runs, four hits and two RBI’s, Emily Devine with one run, two hits and four RBI’s and Leslie Anglin with three runs and two RBI’s.

New South Wales two runs came from the likes of Ticara Geldenhuis and Shai-lee Reeves.

Victoria Blue and New South Wales will both face Western Australia tomorrow in what will be their only game for the day.

As part of Thursday's #NoMore Campaign day, which saw players at #AWC2019 stand against domestic violence, a player from each game was recognised for playing within the spirit of the sport.

Victoria Blue remain undefeated after an impressive 5-0 win over New South Wales in the first game on Diamond 1.

The Victorians were a little slow to start, but a three-run fifth innings sealed the win for the team.

Victoria Blue starter Morgan Doty was superb on the mound, with an astonishing eight strikeouts and just one hit from her seven innings pitched.

Abbey McLellan was the best with the bat for Victoria Blue, with two runs including an RBI from three at bats.

NSW starting pitcher Brittney Langlais kept Victoria Blue to two runs in the first five innings, with five strikeouts.

A McLellan double allowed Abbey Kelly to cross the plate in the first.

Courtney Foura then singled in the third to put Victoria Blue ahead by two.

Two costly errors by Queensland in the fifth gifted Victoria Blue a 4-0 lead, before Belinda Cannington scored a final run to make it 5-0.

 

Open: SA 10-3 VICW | Box Score

Six runs in the final innings helped South Australia to a thrilling win over Victoria White on Diamond 2.

With South Australia 4-3 heading into the seventh innings, it was an Ayumi Ikeyama double that kick started the SA offence.

Natasha Strapps and Jenny Dunn also hit RBI singles in the seventh to seal victory for the South Australians.

Strapps finished with a game-high three RBIs, with Carly Moore driving in two.

Victoria White pitcher Amanda Torrington did her best on the mound, pitching all seven innings. She finished with eight hits for ten runs and nine strikeouts.

Earlier, Jasmine Maslin opened the scoring for the South Australians after crossing home plate off a sacrifice fly at the start of the second. Moore hit a double to score Eryn Shipp and give her team a 2-0 lead.

Their score doubled at the start of the third courtesy of a dropped ball and a ground out score by Belinda Stansfield.

Victoria White got three runs at the bottom of the fourth but it was the South Australian team who finished the game strongly and took the win.

Victoria Blue sealed their second win of the day after defeating Western Australia on Diamond 1.

The undefeated team were excellent with the bat, with Shae Lillywhite leading the offence with three RBIs.

A four-run first innings got the Victorian Blue team off to a great start. Abbey McLellan tripled off a fly ball to score Lillywhite, then Belinda Cannington doubled to allow Courtney Foura and Emily Devine to cross home plate.

Western Australia made it a two run ball game at the top of the fourth thanks to a single scoring Caitlin Eynon.

But Victoria Blue put the result to bed in the fifth innings, crossing home plate seven times with Lillywhite, Devine and Abbey Kelly all hitting big singles in the innings.

Victoria Blue play New South Wales on Diamond 1 tomorrow at 1pm.

 

Youth: IND 0-22 NSW | Box Score

New South Wales maintained its perfect record at #AWC2019 with a 22-0 win over Indonesia in the opening Youth contest of Day 5.

Olivia Bonello finished with three hits and five runs batted in as NSW collected a sixth win in as many attempts.

Two of Bonello’s base hits were doubles.

Breanna Green and Iris Ng both drove in two runs for New South Wales.

Green and Emma Wallace impressed on the mound, collecting three strikeouts each.

NSW scored 12 runs in the first to back Green’s solid start and put up 10 more in the second frame.

 

Youth: QLD 6-2 VIC | Box Score

Queensland gave its hopes of playing in the Youth gold medal game a huge boost with a hard-fought win over Victoria.

A three-run fifth sealed a 6-2 win, Queensland’s fourth of the event, on Diamond 3.

Queensland struck in the first and extending the lead to three runs in the second inning.

Maddi Weller’s RBI-single cut Victoria’s deficit to two before Kira Jansen’s home run made it a one-run ballgame.

Brianna Ragau, Hannah Graham and Samantha Sullivan drove in runs to push out Queensland’s advantage in the fifth.

Reliever Isabella Ramirez struck out four in four innings for Queensland.

 

Youth: NSW 7-14 QLD | Box Score

Queensland overcome a late comeback bid to inflict New South Wales’ first loss of the #AWC2019 Youth event.

A six-run first inning put Queensland up 6-1 before NSW pulled within a run in the third.

Queensland steadied and capped off its fifth win of the tournament with a five-run fourth.

Tamika Zamora led the offence with four RBIs and Brianna Ragau drove in three runs on two hits.

Starting pitcher Hannah Graham struck out four before Mia Bender took to the mound, also finishing with four punchouts.

Mackenzie Jackson and Emma Hooper collected two RBI for New South Wales.

Queensland will close out the opening round with games against Western Australia and Indonesia tomorrow. NSW faces Victoria at 10.45am.

Western Australia finished off Day 5 of the #AWC2019 Youth event with a 3-0 victory over Indonesia.

In what was a tight affair, two runs in the fourth innings by Western Australia sealed the win.

Pitching on both sides was strong, with WA starter Georgia Butler leading the way. She went for just one hit and no runs, with four strikeouts.

Her Indonesian counterpart Ni Wayan Diva Ayu Nirmala struck out four, with three runs coming from six hits in her four innings.

Ebony Hinchcliffe got WA on the board in the first innings with a single to allow Georgia Butler to score.

Scores were tied until the fourth innings, when Jessica Knight scored off a wild pitch, and Georgia McCabe hit an RBI single to put WA ahead 3-0.

Western Australia are first up on Diamond 3 tomorrow when they play Queensland.

Indonesia will play Queensland in the last game on Diamond 3 at 2:45pm.

Two costly errors by Queensland in the fifth gifted Victoria Blue a 4-0 lead, before Belinda Cannington scored a final run to make it 5-0.

Six runs in the final innings helped South Australia to a thrilling win over Victoria White on Diamond 2.

With South Australia 4-3 heading into the seventh innings, it was an Ayumi Ikeyama double that kick started the SA offence.

Natasha Strapps and Jenny Dunn also hit RBI singles in the seventh to seal victory for the South Australians.

Strapps finished with a game-high three RBIs, with Carly Moore driving in two.

Victoria White pitcher Amanda Torrington did her best on the mound, pitching all seven innings. She finished with eight hits for ten runs and nine strikeouts.

Earlier, Jasmine Maslin opened the scoring for the South Australians after crossing home plate off a sacrifice fly at the start of the second. Moore hit a double to score Eryn Shipp and give her team a 2-0 lead.

Their score doubled at the start of the third courtesy of a dropped ball and a ground out score by Belinda Stansfield.

Victoria White got three runs at the bottom of the fourth but it was the South Australian team who finished the game strongly and took the win.

South Australia and Victoria White will both play Queensland tomorrow on Diamond 2, with the first game starting at 9am

Victoria Blue sealed their second win of the day after defeating Western Australia on Diamond 1.

The undefeated team were excellent with the bat, with Shae Lillywhite leading the offence with three RBIs.

A four-run first innings got the Victorian Blue team off to a great start. Abbey McLellan tripled off a fly ball to score Lillywhite, then Belinda Cannington doubled to allow Courtney Foura and Emily Devine to cross home plate.

Western Australia made it a two run ball game at the top of the fourth thanks to a single scoring Caitlin Eynon.

But Victoria Blue put the result to bed in the fifth innings, crossing home plate seven times with Lillywhite, Devine and Abbey Kelly all hitting big singles in the innings.

Victoria Blue play New South Wales on Diamond 1 tomorrow at 1pm.

 

 

Youth: QLD 6-2 VIC | Box Score


Queensland gave its hopes of playing in the Youth gold medal game a huge boost with a hard-fought win over Victoria.

A three-run fifth sealed a 6-2 win, Queensland’s fourth of the event, on Diamond 3.

Queensland struck in the first and extending the lead to three runs in the second inning.

Maddi Weller’s RBI-single cut Victoria’s deficit to two before Kira Jansen’s home run made it a one-run ballgame.

Brianna Ragau, Hannah Graham and Samantha Sullivan drove in runs to push out Queensland’s advantage in the fifth.

Reliever Isabella Ramirez struck out four in four innings for Queensland.

Youth: VIC 18-2 WA | Box Score 

A strong batting performance by Victoria in the opening two innings ensured their victory over Western Australia to start off Day 4 of the AWC Championships.

Western Australia were first on the board at Diamond 3, with a single from Georgia Butler and a ground out by Tiah Hope putting WA ahead 2-0.

But their lead didn’t last long, with Victoria hitting six runs in the bottom of the first.

Keeley Harrison and Lilian Bell-Tanner both hit three runs each, with the whole batting lineup all getting runs on the board.

Victoria starter Chelsea Stewart laid a solid platform for her team, striking out six with just one walk and one earned run off her two innings pitched.

The Victorian offence really came together at the bottom of the second innings, where the team crossed home plate 12 times.

Kira Jansen topped the RBI count for her team with three, whilst Zoe Allen, Bell-Tanner and Harrison got two each.

New South Wales play Indonesia first up tomorrow on Diamond Three.

 

Youth: QLD 9-3 IND | Box Score 

Queensland secured their third win of the youth tournament with a 9-3 win over Indonesia.

Brianna Ragau opened the scoring for the Queenslanders in the bottom of the first, hitting a single off a fly ball to score Paris Bastow.

A fielding error by Indonesian shortstop Rania Rafidhia plus two walks from starting pitcher Deliana Rifani gifted the Queensland team a 4-0 lead heading into the third innings.

The Indonesian team made a comeback at the top of the third innings, managing to score three runs courtesy of two singles and a ground out.

But the Queensland team piled on five more runs at the end of the third, as the Indonesian pitchers let in five walks.

Paris Bastow finished with a game high three runs including an RBI.

The Queensland team play Victoria in the second match-up on Diamond Three.

 

Youth: IND 1-19 VIC | Box Score 

A monster first innings by Victoria ensured their victory over Indonesia on Diamond 3..

The Victorian team ran in 13 runs in what was a powerful display of batting.

Maddi Weller starred with the bat, hitting four runs including two RBIs off her three at bats.

Kira Jansen finished with four RBIs, including two doubles.

Lilian Bell-Tanner kicked thing off for the Victorians with a single to score Keeley Harrison.

A double by Jansen and three more singles by Bell-Tanner, Maddi Weller and Aspen McGovern quickly bought the score to 9-0.

Ruby Dale then smashed a ground ball triple to score two and bring her team to 12-0, after another error by the Indonesian shortstop.

Victoria were not finished yet, hitting three more runs at the top of the second and then again at the top of the third to finish off the game.

Indonesia play NSW in the first game on Diamond One tomorrow.

 

Youth: WA 3-14 NSW | Box Score 

Closing out Day 4 on Diamond 3, New South Wales continued their unbeaten winning streak with a convincing win over Western Australia.

Western Australia got the first runs on the board courtesy of a Ebony Hinchcliffe single and a Georgia Butler double.

But NSW replied with a six run second innings. A shortstop error from Butler followed by a Taylor Napier single to score Millie Atkinson evened up the scores.

A walk from WA pitcher Makayla George, a fielding error and a two RBI single by Tallulah Lewis put NSW up by four after the second innings.

WA got one run back at the bottom of the second, but it wasn’t enough as NSW piled on eight more at the top of the third.

NSW starting pitcher Iris Ng laid a solid platform for her team, finishing her two innings with four strikeouts for three runs and no walks

New South Wales kicked things off on Diamond 1 on Day 4 with a 10-5 win over Victoria White.

NSW put the first run on the board courtesy of a Jordan Richardson double, scoring Ticara Geldenhuis.

Victoria White hit the lead briefly at the top of the second when Rebecca Wright doubled on a fly ball to score Jasmine Bentley and Sabrina Kinlough.

But NSW replied quickly at the bottom of the second with a Tiana Lascala single to go one ahead.

From there, NSW offence kicked up a notch, skipping to a 7-2 lead.

They had a minor lapse at the top of the fifth when they let Victoria drive in three runs.

But it wasn’t enough as NSW crossed home plate three more times at the backend of the game to take the win.

NSW will play Victoria Blue in what will be an exciting match first up on Diamond One.

Victoria Blue are now five wins from as many starts after a solid win over South Australia in the only game on Diamond 2.

They continued their strong offence, driving in twelve runs after three innings to put the result beyond doubt early on.

Abbey Mclellan finished with a game high four RBIs, whilst Shae Lillywhite continued her strong form with three hits from three at bats.

After leading 1-0 after one innings, the Vic Blue team took off, with a couple of singles and errors from South Australia giving them a 6-0 lead.

Their score doubled in the third innings, with Emily Devine finishing off the strong innings with a double to score Brittney Cedelland and Famke Gildemacher.

South Australia got two runs on the board at the bottom of the fourth thanks to a Eryb Shipp single, but it wasn’t enough as the game finished after five innings.  

 

Open: QLD 0-10 WA | Box Score 

Western Australia finished Day 4 off in style with a 10-0 shutout victory over Queensland.

WA were on fire from the first innings, with singles from Kelsey Brennan, Karina Watson and Caitlin Eynon getting the team an early 4-0 lead.

Narumi Kametani started on the mound for WA and was excellent, striking out four and gaining just one hit for no runs.

Western Australia got one more run in the third before putting the result to bed with a five run fifth innings.

Doubles by Kaila Borgomastro and Rebecca Torpy allowed four to cross home plate and ensure victory.

Queensland starting pitcher Keeley Henderson went for four innings, finishing with 10 hits and seven earned runs, with five walks.

Western Australia have a tough match against the undefeated Victoria Blue tomorrow on Diamond 1.
