7.40pm Firebirds open #AJLC2018 account

Pool C result: Central Firebirds 15, Ryde Hawks 2

Central Firebirds opened their #AJLC2018 account with a 15-2 win over Ryde Hawks in the final Day 2 game on Diamond 1.

The Firebirds scored five runs in the third and nine in the fourth to claim an impressive win.

Connor Chehab led the way with four runs batted in, and also made a stunning diving play at first base.

Caleb Goodwin and Will Truscott also drove in a pair of runs.

Reliever Stephen Norman struck out four in two scoreless innings.

Michael Blundy collected two hits for the Hawks.

Central Firebirds opened their #AJLC2018 account with a 15-2 win over Ryde Hawks in the final Day 2 game on Diamond 1.

The Firebirds scored five runs in the third and nine in the fourth to claim an impressive win.

Connor Chehab led the way with four runs batted in, and also made a stunning diving play at first base.

Caleb Goodwin and Will Truscott also drove in a pair of runs.

7.20pm Hills remain unbeaten after Day 2

Pool A result: Hills 14, Brisbane North 2

Clayton Campbell drove home three runs as Hills maintained its perfect record in Pool A at #AJLC2018.

Hills improved their record to 2-0 ahead of tomorrow’s final Pool A game, topping Brisbane North 14-2.

Brisbane North scored first but Hills took little time to respond.

They scored three runs in the bottom of the first and nine in the second.

Campbell drove in three runs and homered in the second inning after Stephen Courtney went deep to lead off the inning.

Eddie Crotty drove in Brisbane Metro’s run.

 

Clayton Campbell drove home three runs as Hills maintained its perfect record in Pool A at #AJLC2018.

5.15pm Athletics secure vital Pool D win

Pool D result: Eastern Athletics 18, Far North Coast 5

Eastern Athletics picked up their first win of #AJLC2018, downing Far North Coast 18-5 on Day 2 at West Beach.

The Athletics bounced back from a loss to Macarthur in their Pool D opener to clinch a crucial win.

Charlie O’Connell homered and finished with three runs batted in, while Jimin Lee also drove in three as Eastern’s offence heated up.

They racked up 23 hits in total.

Lee accounted for four of them and Keeley Ronalds-Greatbach and Lochlann O’Connor three each.

Cain McClelland had two hits for Far North Coast.

Eastern Athletics picked up their first win of #AJLC2018, downing Far North Coast 18-5 on Day 2 at West Beach.

Pool B result: Adelaide Waves 11, Northern Metros 9

Adelaide Waves improved their #AJLC2018 Pool B record to 2-0 with a hard-fought win over Northern Metros on Diamond 2.

The Waves scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead and held on to win 11-9.

Northern Metros threatened in the bottom of the fifth, with Ben Bird driving in a couple of runs and Jackson Park and Jack Wintergreene also delivering RBI-singles.

Oscar Weber starred for Adelaide, collecting four hits.

Westdijk, Tyson Schunke and Zac Becker each finished with a couple of RBIs.

Becker also closed the door for the Waves with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

Earlier, Macarthur built a 4-1 lead on Tyrone Fergie’s RBI-single and a pair of RBIs from Damian Eagles.

1.20pm Wallace leads Brisbane Metro to victory

Pool B result: Brisbane Metros 12, Cronulla 1

Starter Callum Wallace threw a no-hitter and Ben Walmsley drove in four runs as Brisbane Metro recorded an impressive win over Cronulla.

Wallace struck out eight in five innings and Metro’s offence blew the game open with a nine-run fourth to notch a 12-1 win in the Pool B #AJLC2018 contest.

Cronulla scored first on the back of a first-inning walk and error before Brisbane’s offence came to life in the fourth.

Walmsley put Metro on top with a two-run double and they doubled the lead on Jock Millar’s two-run single.

Billy Richters drove home a couple of runners on a double and Walmsley plated another run as Brisbane Metro batted around.

Pool C result: Southern Mariners 20, Adelaide Pirates 10

Nick Bertucci homered three times as the Southern Mariners collected their second Pool C win at #AJLC2018, taking down Adelaide Pirates 20-10 on Diamond 1.

The Mariners pulled away with a seven-run fifth after the Pirates recovered from an early five-run deficit to pull level.

Bertucci’s two-run homer – his third of the afternoon – capped off the seven-run frame for Southern.

Earlier, he led off the second with a solo shot and blasted a two-run shot in the third.

Starter James Lynch was also impressive.

Lynch struck out eight in 3 1/3 innings and went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

Jordan Hodges and Bradley Przibella drove in a pair of runs each for the Pirates.

Pool A result: Twins 18, Canberra 0

Twins put up 11 runs in the third to down Canberra for their second win in Pool A of #AJLC2018.

After two scoreless frames, the Twins broke the game open with a big third inning and went on to win 18-0 on Diamond 2.

Nikau Pouaka-Grego’s RBI-double opened the scoring ahead of Jaycob Pascuzzi doubling the advantage.

Twins then used some small-ball to extend their advantage further

Pouaka-Grego and Pascuzzi drove in more runs as the Twins batted around.

Pascuzzi was also solid on the mound, striking out six and not giving up a hit in three innings.

Voting is open to all VSBL Presidents or his/her appointed nominee (one vote per club), as per the VSBLPC Terms of Reference recently adopted by the BV Board. Pool D result: Macarthur 16, Eastern Athletics 5

Damian Eagles drove in four runs to help Macarthur down Eastern Athletics 16-5 in their #AJLC2018 Pool D opener.

Macarthur jumped to a 7-1 lead after two innings and wrapped up the contest with a nine-run fifth.

Connor O’Sullivan, Bailey Senior and Toby Hughes finished with two hits each.

Earlier, Jimin Lee hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to two.

Pool B: Adelaide Waves 14, Brisbane Metro 11

Adelaide Waves held off Brisbane Metro to record a 14-10 victory on Day 1 of #AJLC2018.

Metro pulled within two runs on the back off a five-run sixth, but the Waves put two runs on in the bottom-half of the inning and denied a seventh-inning rally by Brisbane.

Adelaide scored four runs in each of the first, second and fifth innings.

Tyson Schunke led the way with three runs batted in.

Jackson Grounds and Gabriel Valdez Cadena both homed for Metro.

Schofield’s grand slam cut the Far North Coast’s eight-run lead in half, before Stivey’s first reduced the lead to 8-7.

Stivey and Chipper then homered back-to-back in the third, making it 10-10.

Stivey went deep twice more, finishing with 10 runs batted in.

Cooper Olive homered and doubled for Far North Coast.

Pool C: Adelaide Pirates 8, Ryde Hawks 7

Adelaide Pirates scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to record a dramatic walk-off win over Ryde Hawks on Diamond 2.

The Pirates trailed 7-2 entering the bottom of the seventh in their first game of #AJLC2018, before a stunning comeback.

Jay Couzner, Noah Rogers and Cooper Mitchell drove in runs to draw Adelaide level.

Mitchell then scored on a fielder’s choice to lift the Pirates to victory.

Earlier, the two starting pitchers were superb.

Hawks’ starter Aidan Miller struck out nine, while Adelaide counterpart Matthew George also punched out nine.

Pouaka-Grego and Jaycob Pascuzzi went deep back-to-back in the bottom of the fifth as the Twins racked up a solid opening win in Pool A.

Harrison Fitzgerald also drove in three runs for the Twins.

Pouaka-Grego also started, striking out three, before Connor Schibeci took over and punched out five.

Brisbane North was led by seven strikeouts from starter Joel Hogan.

11.15am Mariners seal win with late runs against Firebirds

Pool C result: Southern Mariners 8, Central Firebirds 5

Southern Mariners used a late fightback to edge Central Firebirds 8-5 in a thrilling opener to Pool C action at #AJLC2018.

The Mariners scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead after Jacob Dickinson’s two-run homer in the sixth cut the deficit to two runs.

Nick Bertucci then shut the door with a pair of seventh-inning strikeouts to complete a thrilling comeback win.

Earlier, the Firebirds used a four-run fourth to race to a 5-1 lead.

Josh Artingstall’s two-run single headlined the inning for Central.

Southern Mariners used a late fightback to edge Central Firebirds 8-5 in a thrilling opener to Pool C action at #AJLC2018.

A seven-run second inning propelled Cronulla to gold at the 2018 Australian Senior League Championship presented by Bendigo Bank.

Cronulla capped off an outstanding week in Lismore with a 7-3 win over the Adelaide Titans, earning the right to represent the Australia Region at the 2018 Senior League World Series in Easley, South Carolina.

The Titans struck first as they looked to become the second-straight South Australian charter to claim Senior League glory.

Liam Bull’s two-out single scored Tom Walsh in the top of the first.

Cronulla hit back in a big way during the second.

They drew level on a Bailey Curtis single before Jarrod Psaras doubled to clear the bases and hand Cronulla a 4-1 advantage.

Myles Chabi, Joshua Pearl and Kobi Paynter drove in runs to extend Cronulla’s lead to six runs.

Adelaide was unable to fight back with Pearl solid on the mound for Cronulla.

The starter struck out 11 and scattered four hits across 5 1/3 innings.

The Titans capitalised on Pearl’s exit from the game, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.

Cronulla will head to South Carolina for the Senior League World Series later this year, following in the footsteps of the Southern Mariners and Adelaide Armada.

The Northern Metros will represent the Australia Region at the 2018 Little League Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division World Series in Livermore, California.

The Metros booked their place at the World Series by downing Western Suns 10-9 to claim gold at the inaugural Australian Intermediate League Championship.

The contest was called off after six innings with rain falling and light fading.

Ty Spaulding put Northern ahead in the top of the sixth with a three-run homer.

Earlier, the Metros scored four runs in the third to take a 7-2 lead after the two Western Australia outfits traded early runs before a rain-delay.

The Suns hit back with five fourth-inning runs to tie the game and took the lead in the fifth.

Spaulding finished with four runs batted in for the Metros, while Jacob Santich and Sean Escott also drove in a couple of runs.

Spaulding also struck out five hitters after starting for Northern.

Consolation game three between the Southern Mariners and Newcastle Eagles was cancelled due to constant rain at #ASLC2018.

Western Suns scored early runs and weathered a rain-delay to prevail 5-1 over Adelaide Armada in the #ASLC2018 bronze medal game.

The Suns built a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and rode a strong start by Austin Hagan to victory.

Hagan overcome the rain delay to toss five innings, striking out three and not allowing a run until the fifth inning.

Meanwhile, Western’s offence added a couple of runs in the fourth on an Ayden Cartwright double and bases loaded walk.

Cartwright finished with a couple of doubles, while Jarred Hutchins drove in two runs.

FNC broke a 6-all tie on a Josh Healy groundball in the bottom of the fourth and pulled away further with a five-run fifth.

Jacob Ponton starred with the bat for Far North Coast, pushing home three runs.

Starter Josh Healy steadied after allowing early runs to strikeout eight.

Michael Albertini drove in two runs for the Meteors.

Far North Coast secured its first win of #ASLC2018, downing Western Meteors 13-6 in a Day 6 consolation game.

#AILC2018 consolation game: Ryde Hawks 19, Manly 7

Ryde Hawks used a pair of big innings to top Manly 19-7 in their final game of #AILC2018.

The Hawks scored six runs in the second and nine in the fourth, building a solid lead ahead of Manly launching a fightback.

Manly tacked on five in the bottom of the fourth but it was not enough.

Max Goldring drove in three runs for Ryde.

Toby Russell had two RBIs for Manly.

Ryde Hawks used a pair of big innings to top Manly 19-7 in their final game of #AILC2018.

The Hawks scored six runs in the second and nine in the fourth, building a solid lead ahead of Manly launching a fightback.

Trenell Hutchins’ two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh lifted Twins to victory in consolation game 4 at #ASLC2018.

Nicholas Pascuzzi and Oscar Hargreaves reached on back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the seventh, before Hutchins tripled to secure a 6-5 win over the Gold Coast Cougars.

It was a see-sawing contest with the Cougars scoring first and regaining the lead in the fourth after Twins plated three runs in the third.

Hutchins’ triple was his second hit of the game.

Ashley Anderson finished with two hits for the Gold Coast.

The Mariners scored the first six runs of the game before the Cougars tacked on three and loaded the bases in the top of the seventh.

Adam Harris came on to record the final out for Southern.

Mariners’ starter Dante Caruso earlier provided five and 1/3 solid innings of work.

He struck out five and drove in a couple of runs offensively.

Jasper King finished with two RBIs for the Gold Coast.

The Titans fought back from 3-1 down to advance to the decider against the winner of this afternoon’s second semi-final between Cronulla and the Western Suns.

Liam Goodrich was exceptional on the mound for Ryde despite a shaky start. The righty only conceded one run in his final four innings on the mound as he finished with six strikeouts.

 

Hamish Treatt starred with bat in hand for Ryde, going 4-for-4 and driving in three runs. Luca Fierro also hit well to finish with three RBI, while Kynan Leong legged out two doubles and a triple.

 

Jo-Wei Chang finished with three RBI for Manly, with Tom Gledhill and Jared Cupp finished with one hit apiece.

Western Suns are into the #AILC2018 gold medal game following a tense semi-final win over Macarthur.

Michael De Gasperis homered and recorded the final two outs in relief as the Suns prevailed 10-7 on Diamond 3.

Macarthur were gallant in defeat, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh of the gripping contest.

De Gasperis finished with three hits and Corey Edwards drove in three runs for the Suns.

Macarthur’s Gabriel Methner hit his first home run, reducing Western’s lead to 6-4 with a two-run shot in the fifth.

The Suns will play the winner of this afternoon’s second semi-final between Northern Metros and Southern Mariners.

#ASLC2018 result: Western Meteors 10, Far North Coast 6

The Western Meteors used an eight-run fourth to overcome Far North Coast their consolation game on Day 5 of #ASLC2018.

Up 2-0, the Meteors pulled away with an eight run fourth, headlined by two-run doubles from Ewan Fraser-Easton and Jake Smedley.

The runs proved vital as Far North Coast tacked on the final six runs of the contest.

Meteors’ starter Michael Albertini struck out five.

Far North Coast are in action against Hills from 11.45am, in the second game of their Day 5 doubleheader.

Welcome to Day 5! We have a big day of action for you with four semi-finals across #ASLC2018 & #AILC2018. The first of those is in the Intermediate League with Western Suns battling Macarthur for a spot in the final from 9.30am (local time) on Diamond 3. That will be followed by Northern Metros and Southern Mariners from 1pm, also on Diamond 3. In Senior League, Adelaide Armada and Adelaide Titans clash in semi-final one at 12.15pm on Diamond 1. That will be followed by Cronulla and Western Suns. Both #ASLC2018 semi-finals will be live on ABLtv.com!

The schedule for Day 5 has been finalised after opening round action at the Australian Senior League Championship presented by Bendigo Bank and Australian Intermediate League Championship wrapped up today.

Adelaide Armada and the Adelaide Titans will clash in the first #ASLC2018 semi-final, from 12:15pm on Diamond 1, followed by Cronulla and Western Suns in the second semi-final.

The winners will advance to the Championship Game at 5pm on Friday.

In #AILC2018, the Western Suns will play Macarthur in semi-final one after finishing as top seed following the opening round.

Northern Metros and Southern Mariners will contest the other semi-final.

The remaining teams in both events will take part in consolation games.
