Baseball Australia is proud to launch the 2017 edition of the MLB Australian Academy Program (MLBAAP).

Among the 2017 intake are TEN (10) Victorians including:

Baseball Australia has confirmed the final rounds of the Bendigo Bank Australian Little League Championship will be completed on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July at Blacktown International Sportspark, Sydney, at no additional expense to competing teams.

The announcement comes following in-depth discussions with teams, the Australian Little League Advisory Panel, the Baseball Australia executive team, sponsors and Little League International, with a fair and reasonable conclusion to the Bendigo Bank Australian Little League Championship the collective aim.

The Championship, hosted in Lismore, NSW, had to be postponed following heavy rain and wind that swept the NSW and Queensland coastline last week.

Bendigo Bank, Little League Australia’s major sponsor, will make a significant contribution, along with Baseball Australia, to ensure that an Australian Little League Champion will be crowned, and competing teams are not disadvantaged.

Baseball Australia CEO Cam Vale has been humbled by the generosity of the baseball community.

“Baseball Australia has been blown away by the support from our event partners,” Vale said.

“In a unique and difficult period for the sport, it has been humbling to receive such generous support from a number of different parties, and we look forward to crowning the Bendigo Bank Australian Little League Champion in the coming weeks.”

Bendigo Bank’s Chief Customer Officer, Marnie Baker said it was an easy call to make.

“Our partnership with Little League Australia goes well beyond our strong brand alignment with grassroots sport,” said Baker.

“As soon as we heard the Championship was going to be rescheduled, we looked at ways we could help.”

“Bendigo Bank is proud to back the Australian Little League and its families, and we look forward to a great Championship weekend in early July.”

Baseball Australia would also like to acknowledge the continuous support that Little League International has provided during the entire Australian Little League season, with particular emphasis on the recent challenges during the Bendigo Bank Australian Little League Championship.

The top eight teams following pool play will contest the remainder of the championship, as four quarter finals, two semi finals, and the gold medal game will decide which team will represent the Australia Region at the 2017 Little League World Series.

Baseball Australia would like to thank Bendigo Bank, the Lismore City Council, Destination NSW, the Far North Coast Baseball Association (FNCBA), Baseball NSW, Little League International, all technical officials and the unbelievable FNCBA volunteers for their unwavering support during a challenging period.

Broadcast information and tournament schedule will be announced in coming weeks.

Baseball Australia, in conjunction with Major League Baseball (MLB)
and State Associations, is excited to announce the MLB Australian Showcase. This event, part of MLB’s continued effort to
help grow the game in Australia, will provide an opportunity to emerging young
baseball players to display their talent, in six major Australian capital
cities.

Those athletes with little or no baseball experience are also encouraged
to participate in these showcases as baseball can provide numerous paths to
advance one’s education, represent Australia on an international stage, and
even open doors to a career in professional baseball.

“This is an opportunity to capitalise on the significant strides Baseball
Australia has made over the past several years, while also providing another goal
for young athletes to set their sights on,” said Giovanni Hernandez, Senior
Manager of International Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball.

Participants must be turning 13 or 14 in 2017 with a birth year of
2003 or 2004.

Canberra's Cam Warner and Perth's Robbie Glendinning have been stars in their respective college careers, however both of their lives have been changed as they are now 2017 MLB draftees.

Warner, who has made a name for himself as the starting 2B for Texas Christian University (TCU), was picked up in the 28th round of the draft by the Detroit Tigers, while Robbie Glendinning was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 21st round.

Glendinning, a Scarborough native, burst on to the scene at Northern Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in 2015/16, where he remains NIACC's all-time leader in hits, RBI, doubles, home runs and runs scored.

Following his success at NIACC, Glendinning moved to the University of Missouri, where his 2017 season finished with a batting average of .274, 55 hits, seven home runs and 30 RBI.

For Robbie, he believes going to college enabled him to mature as a ballplayer and a person.

"Going to college helped me grow up," Glendinning said.

"Playing at NIACC was the best thing I've ever done. My coaches made me a competitive ballplayer, and then heading to Missouri gave me an indication of what it's like playing on the big stage."

Cam Warner has been exceptional for the College World Series bound TCU Horned Frogs.

Warner's bat has been on fire for TCU this season, hitting .292 with 73 hits, five home runs and 49 RBI. TCU finished with a 47-16 record, and are heading back to the College World Series, the biggest stage in Division 1 baseball.

Warner's exploits haven't gone unnoticed, as he was recently named in the Big12 All-Conference team for the second consecutive year.

Warner learned of his signing in a slightly unorthodox way.

"I was actually at practice when I heard the news," Warner said.

"One of my teammates came in and told me I had been drafted. It was awesome to share that with my teammates at TCU."

Warner is also an advocate of playing college baseball as he gears up for the College World Series.

"Playing at the college level has helped me continue to grow and develop my skills," Warner said.

"My time at both Hill College and TCU have been some of the best years of my life, and playing at the College World Series is something I never though I would do."

With more and more Australians finding their way to the US playing both professional and college baseball, Baseball Australia's Head of High Performance Glenn Williams is excited to have two of our bright young stars find their way to pro-ball.

"It's a really exciting and encouraging sign for Australian baseball," Williams said.

"It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to leave the country and play baseball regardless of whether it's professional or college. We are excited to see what the next step is for both of these guys. Based on their college careers, I'm confident they will do well and form part of the Team Australia setup in the not too distant future."

AFTER first convening almost 12 months ago and charged with the task of bringing focus and structure to the growth of female participation in Victoria, the Women and Girls Working Group have presented their Inclusive Action Plan to the Baseball Victoria Board at a specially convened meeting earlier this week.
