Team Australia has finalised their roster for the 2023 Under 18 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan.

Four Victorians made the cut following a highly competitive week at the Under 18 National Junior Camp on the Gold Coast. This includes catcher Declan Speirs and infielders Jayden Kim, Jack Ratcliffe, and Lachlan Smith.

Players competed in daily training, testing and games to determine the roster, with the team departing to Taiwan this Thursday for a week-long training camp before the tournament starts on 31 August.

Congrats Declan, Jayden, Jack, and Lachlan!

Baseball Victoria is looking for a few more volunteers to serve on the VSBL Tribunal Panel for a two-year period.

The match review officer and tribunal members play a valuable role in ensuring a successful summer season and a fair and safe experience for all participants.

Tribunal members will hear appeal cases over player penalties and meet at most once a week. The number of cases varies each year depending on the games played and any player ejections during the competition.

While we are seeking individuals with experience in tribunal and legal processes, this is not required when applying. If you are interested in this opportunity, please keep in mind that in order to be successful with your application you must:

  • Have a clear understanding of the rules and processes while adhering to the Victorian Summer Baseball League rules and regulations, Baseball Victoria By-Laws and the rules of baseball.
  • Be reliable and prepared to attend hearings on a weekly basis.
  • Hold a high level of confidentiality.
  • Provide feedback and assist in any further review in conjunction with the VSBL Pennant Committee.

Candidates should be confident in their proven abilities and experience in these areas. All interested individuals may apply HERE.

The Australian Emeralds have wrapped up their 2023 Women's World Cup Campaign in fourth place with a 2-3 record.

Although they fell just short of advancing to the final round in 2024, their dedication and teamwork were evident throughout the week. From a one-run loss to powerhouse USA to wins against South Korea and Hong Kong, they battled hard to stay in the competition and made their country proud.

Well done to all the Emeralds and, of course, a very special mention to our Victorian representatives: Genevieve Beacom, Abbey McLellan, Maddy Patrick, Allie Bebbere, Morgan Doty, Lili Cavanagh, Abbey Kelly, Shae Lillywhite, Samantha Hamilton (assistant coach) and Ursula Howard (EO).

We can't wait to see what the future holds for #womensbaseball in Australia and beyond.

Baseball Victoria is excited to announce the 2023 Barclay Cup teams ahead of the national junior girls tournament at Carine Cats Baseball Club in Perth, WA from 1-7 October.

After a memorable week at the inaugural event last year, the Vic Dingoes and Hornets are ready to represent and test their skills against girls from all around Australia. This new national tournament for youth girls aged 13-16 honours talented athlete and beloved baseballer Jacinda Barclay, who sadly passed away in 2020.

“Congratulations to the Vic Dingoes and Hornets. We know the future of youth women’s baseball is very bright and we look forward to seeing these girls shine at the Barclay Cup,” Baseball Victoria CEO Chet Gray said. “Thank you to our dedicated coaching staff and families for supporting this development opportunity. We hope everyone has a fantastic time on the West Coast.”

The rosters were decided after trials with the BV Performance Pathway team, and coaches are excited for training in the leadup to the tournament before taking the girls across the country for an epic week of baseball fun.

“Well done to all our Barclay Cup players,” Hornets Head Coach Alan Sutherland said. “We have a great group of girls ready to play, and our coaching staff is here to help them improve their skills and gain confidence on the field. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish together. Bring on the Barclay Cup!”

It’s been a huge week of women’s baseball at the World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada, with Australia’s hopes still alive after a 10-3 victory over South Korea this morning.

We are so proud of the Emeralds and their amazing efforts, nearly beating powerhouse USA before a tough battle with Mexico going down in extra innings.

They’ve put on an impressive show so far and we wish them all the best in their remaining games against Hong Kong and Canada over the weekend.

Special mention to our Victorian representatives Genevieve Beacom, Abbey McLellan, Maddy Patrick, Allie Bebbere, Morgan Doty, Lili Cavanagh, Abbey Kelly, Shae Lillywhite, Samantha Hamilton (assistant coach), and Ursula Howard (EO).

11 Victorians have been invited to Australia’s Under 18 National Junior Camp on the Gold Coast this week with World Cup roster spots on the line.

Congratulations to Lachlan Amon, Aimon Dowling, Jayden Kim, Evan Maury, Logan O'Brien, Jack Ratcliffe, Harper Rickard, Lachlan Smith, Declan Speirs, Ryan Williams, and Ryder Wilson.

50 of the best junior baseball players from across the country will attend the camp, and at the end, the group will be cut down to 20. Those players will represent Australia at the Under 18 World Cup from 31 August 31 – 10 September in Taiwan.

The camp is hosted at Surfers Paradise Baseball Club and will run from 13 - 20 August.

Baseball Australia released the initial 28 players selected for the camp in February, but 22 more players have been added.

National Player Development Manager Andrew Riddell says coaches and scouts across Australia have been keeping a close eye on the best junior talent from across the country.

“After our national championships in January, 28 players received invites based off their performances while playing for their state,” Riddell said. “Since then, we’ve kept track of players around Australia while they were training in their high-performance programs. The additional players were selected because of their hard work – and now they have the same opportunity to wear the Green & Gold.”

“We’re looking forward to getting to Surfers and letting the 50 players go at it to determine who represents Australia in Tawain."

Players will partake in morning training sessions every day, with games played each afternoon.

Stay tuned to Team Australia for updates.
