Round robin play at the 2015 National Women’s Championships in Canberra is complete. Undefeated New South Wales will automatically advance to the Gold Medal game and the remaining teams will play for spots in both the Gold and Bronze medal games on Saturday.
ACT v Presidents Friendship Team
ACT secured their first win of the championship with solid hitting across the team and 5 great innings on the mound from Kate Russell. ACT player Eliza Russell had a triple to left field in the 4th and Olivia DeGruchy with two hits and two runs. ACT and the Presidents Friendship Team will play each other again tomorrow in the semi-final for the opportunity to play for a national medal.
Victoria were able to put three runs on the board before New South Wales added nine of their own to win the game 14-7. NSW had a strong lineup which allowed them to get a great game under their belt before qualifying for the Gold Medal game on Saturday. Victorian Bronwyn Gell hit well with a triple, a double and a single and NSW player Olivia Bannon had a double and two singles.

Western Australia has yet to lose a game at the 2015 Under 18 National Youth Championships in Sydney. Although they still have a postponed game to play they are proving their dominance and showing the other teams they are here to win.

Western Australia had the lead early in the game with New South Wales fighting for the win in late innings. Although NSW put a run on in the ninth it wasn’t enough to steal the win from undefeated WA, losing the game 4-5. Each team went through four pitchers in an effort to shut the other teams batters down.
With a 10-8 win over South Australia, ACT is proving to be a strong contender for the finals. Ryan McLennan had a two RBI double and a single to score two of the ten runs for ACT. Excellent pitching for ACT with Mitchell Hughson coming in to pitch 4.1 innings giving up no hits and striking out 7.

Alexander Wells also had a triple to centerfield with two RBIs earning his 4th place ranking for batting average at the championship.

New South Wales played 16 of their 18 players, focusing on their younger players in order to give them valuable experience at a national level. Finishing with a 23-2 win over ACT, Marti Sementelli from NSW contributed to the win with two hits and four RBI’s.

The Presidents Friendship Team held Queensland to 3 - 1 until the bottom of the 4th, before Queensland added 8 runs to end the game 11-1. Queensland scored eleven runs from nine hits, including a RBI Double from Laura Wagner. The Presidents Friendship team is continuing to grow as a team and Queensland are confident going into the semi-finals.
Tomorrow is the last day of Round Robin play before all teams will be ranked for the semi-finals on Friday and the finals on Saturday.

Bats came alive for a sunny day of play at the 2015 Under 18 National Youth Championships presented by New Era. During the 7 inning double header games, homeruns were hit as well as countless triples and doubles.
Games were played on Diamond 1 at Blacktown and at an alternate field at Winston Hills Baseball Club to ensure play continued for the tournament.
The 11:00 am game between Queensland and ACT saw the first homerun of the day at Blacktown International Sportspark. ACT player Isaac Whatson sent a ball flying to right field for a 3 run homerun. The last game of the day at Blacktown also saw a homerun when Country NSW player Alex Fisher hit an in the park homerun to right field against South Australia.
Tyler Leswki and Kevin Jordan from Queensland, James Percival from New South Wales and Alexander Wells from Country NSW all had triples to right field. As well as countless doubles and singles, yesterday proved to be a hot day with the bats.
Louis Baker from Queensland continues to lead the tournament on batting average at .727, with four doubles, eight hits and nine runs from eleven at bats.
At the completion of round robin play on Friday all teams will be ranked, semi-final games will be played on Saturday and finals on Sunday.

The sun was shining at the Under 16 National Youth Championships presented by Rawlings in Sydney today. All games were played at the Moorebank Baseball-Softball Club in Hammondville to ensure play continued and Queensland and South Australia both put wins on the board.

With their second win of the week, New South Wales had a big win over ACT 12-2. With a six run lead by the second, New South Wales dominated the game from the start. Jacob Krkovski from New South Wales had two hits from three at bats scoring two runs.
From tomorrow all games will resume at Blacktown International Sportspark, dependent on the weather, with Gold Medal games still on Sunday January 18th.

Day 4 of the National Women’s Championship ended today with big wins from Victoria and New South Wales.
After an unexpected loss to Queensland yesterday, Victoria bounced back to defeat ACT 10-0. Their experienced players opened up in the first 2 innings and allowed their young players to close out the game for the win. Stand out players for the game included Victorian players Belinda Cannington who scored three runs from three at bats and Abbey McLellan with three RBIs and a run.
Knowing Queensland played a strong game yesterday; New South Wales put their strongest team on the field to beat Queensland 13-1. Driving in nine runs in the first innings, showing a display of strength and proving to the other teams they are here to win. With two doubles and a single Tahnee Lovering from New South Wales scored two runs with four RBIs.
