The annual Baseball Victoria Summer Camp is on again at Essendon Baseball Club. Jan 12 13 14.
Be coached by the stars of the Melbourne Aces plus some of Victoria's elite players and coaches at one of the most fun and informative camps of the year.
Cost is $70 per day with a discount for families who book all 3 days.
As with all our camps the focus is on baseball with majority of the day dedicated to games and coaching. However, summer is supposed to be fun, so we will be setting up our famous 'fun zone' with zorb balls, jumping castles, slip and slides, and a lot of water fun and pranks. Bring a change of clothes and a towel because chances are you will need it!
If you have your own baseball gear bring it along, and if you're new to baseball don't worry, we will lend you our gear so you're ready to play!
Camp runs from 9am to 5pm each day, but we will have staff on hand from 8am until 6pm if you require an early drop off or late pick up.
Note: We are including a LUNCH PACK option for $10 a day. While the canteen will be open, we would prefer lunch orders in advance to help out our staff and volunteers. Canteen will have drinks and snacks and we will be providing fruit for morning and afternoon tea. Don't forget to bring a drink bottle.

Interview with David White, Newport Baseball Club. Can't see the player? Click here.
The game started with two lefties when Kline took the hill for Newport and Yarran for Upwey. Both gave up a run in the first. Newport however took four walks and five stolen bases for their one run to let Upwey off the hook.
Weir lead off with a walk in the top of the 2nd then Kline singled to shallow centre. Jordan Young bunted for a sacrifice to put them both in scoring position. Vicary-Lovegrove drove deeper to centre to score Weir on a double. The in-form Malthouse then brought in another on a sac fly to left but Vicary-Lovegrove got tagged trying for third to end the innings in the same play. Newport was then leading 3-1.
Cassidy walked in the bottom of the frame but with two out Kline threw a low breaking curve to finish it with a strikeout.
In the top of the 3rd Seipolt hit a long single to advance Jeremy young to 3rd, after he had earlier beat out a single deep into the hole at short. Yarran steadied though and that's where they stayed.
Kline got hold of the situation in the bottom of the 3rd and finished it with a curve ball strike out again.
Vicary-Lovegrove walked for Newport with one out to start the action in the top of the fourth then he advanced to second on a pass ball and stole third standing up. After Malthouse walked Yarran of the Tigers made way on the mound for Mark Jones. Vicary-Lovegrove then scored on a wild throw from the catcher and Heath Black walked to make it second and third occupied with one out. Jeremy Young walked and Seipolt snuck by a tag at 1st to score an RBI with two out then a groundout finished it off. Newport was then leading 5-1.
Kline hit a batter in the bottom of the dig but other than that looked in command for the 3 outs.
Rice of Upwey made a good play at short to back up Jones for the second out in the top of the 5th. Vicary-Lovegrove got HBP and Malthouse walked with two out. Vicary-Lovegrove scored on an error before Jones finished it with a strikeout. Newport was then leading 6-1.
Kline sat down the batters in order again in the bottom of the frame.
Foreman of Newport singled to right, and then advanced on an error to start the 6th. Jeremy Young singled and Foreman scored on another error. Young made it to 3rd after a sac fly, but Jones used his field to end it there. Newport was then leading 7-1.
Bottom 6 and Jeremy Young of the Rams made a sharp bare handed play from third to steal a running bunt off Rice. Elliott got on after an error with two out but Kline was in control and ended the dig shortly after as time was running out for the Tigers.
Top seven and Pengally pinch hit for Newport with two out and walked, as Upwey moved towards their last chance at bat with 15 minutes remaining. Jones kept his composure on the hill though and gave his side a chance when the inning ended with a pop- up.
McNish came in to close for Newport after Kline vacated the mound. Cassidy walked with one out and Lewis got HBP. Shroeders also walked to load them up and this created some interest from the crowd. Donovan Hendricks singled to right to score one and reduce the Tigers deficit to 5, meaning the tieing run was in the dugout. Nick Rice ratcheted up the tension when he batted in two with a ground ball single through short to make the difference three runs. Josh Hendricks was then the tieing run at the plate, with two runners on base he was caught in deep to centre for the second out. McNish managed it after that and finished the game with a strikeout.
Final score Newport 7 Upwey 4.

Midweek Rap December 9th 2014.
Midweek games this week open with two top teams from different conferences meeting. Essendon travel to Surrey Park tonight, for a 6pm game, to meet the in-form Melbourne in the return leg of their series after the Demons won 3-1 on the weekend. Whilst both teams had five hits apiece Essendon will be looking to improve their accuracy after they allowed thirteen walks on Sunday. Matthew Kent for Melbourne and Tristan McDonald for Essendon collected two hits and an RBI each and Shane Kraemer threw seven innings for only two hits for the Demons. Both teams still have plenty of pitching in reserve in what promises to be a showcase of Victorian baseball.
Preston travel to Waverley after the Wildcats won 6-3 with twelve hits to six on the weekend. Waverley look to have steadied after losing some tight games to begin the season. The team from Napier Park are in touch with the top of the ladder and now have John Kennedy back on the mound. Kennedy pitched five innings for four hits and six strikeouts and was backed up by Darcy and Luke Papanicolaou who threw two and four innings respectively. With Matthew Wilson on their list Waverley look well stocked with pitching with three games remaining before the break.
Preston is three games behind Essendon in their conference and even with Geelong so a win tonight will put a cap on their hard work so far. The Pirates will be looking to stop Jamie Papanicolaou who collected three hits on the weekend. Preston will also be looking to collect more than six hits after Jordan Ley collected two and four other players got one each on Sunday.
Newport travel to MBP as the away team to Upwey FTG tonight at 6.30pm after the Rams won in a shootout 6-7, 13 hits to14. The Tigers will be looking to contain Jordan Young who collected four hits for the winners whilst Malthouse got three. Weir took the mound as he continues to be the workhorse for Newport and was relieved by Jeremy Young. Newport will stay in touch with the ladder leaders if they win while Upwey will be looking for some joy before Christmas after some tough losses.
Geelong is the away team to Blackburn for the late game at MBP tonight at 8.50pm. The Orioles will be looking to break out of the box after they were blanked 5-0 by the Baycats on the weekend. The winner of tonight’s game will go ahead on points as both teams are even although they are in separate conferences.
Sandringham travel to MBP as the away team to Doncaster for the early game tomorrow night after they lost to the Dragons 2-0 on the weekend. Sandringham have been lead by Grant Irving in both defence and offence all season and Mitch Glasser has been hitting well but the Royals have suffered some tough losses in the last couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Doncaster is being lead with the bat by their playing manger Ben Utting who is 17 from 47 over the season and Westphal is leading with the ball. From the hill Luke has thrown 43 innings so far for only 14 hits. The Royals will be looking for a win and the Dragons will be looking to score more runs to support their solid defence and stay in touch with the top teams.
The 8.50pm late game, tomorrow night, at MBP sees Cheltenham host Williamstown after the Rustlers won 9-5 on the weekend. Williamstown have some pitching in reserve for this game, as Jason Lester and Andrew Russell didn’t throw on the weekend. Josh Lee threw long relief for the Wolves with three strikeouts over four innings giving up only one earned run. Blake Cunningham threw five innings and has been solid for Cheltenham all season with an ERA of 2.28. Trevorah and Rossell got two hits apiece for the Rustlers and have also been solid with the bat all season. Rutgers who is in career best form got one hit as well. Aaron Green got two hits for the Wolves so will be looking to continue his form midweek.
Division 2
There are no midweek games in Division 2 this week. On Saturday Berwick travel to Bonbeach after the Cougars lost to third placed Moorabbin and Bonbeach got blanked 6-0 by Springvale. On Sunday Springvale travel to Malvern after the Braves lost in extras to Fitzroy. The Lions of the north travel to Sunshine for another shot at the top team after the Eagles sat out a washout 0-0 versus Werribee. The Giants travel to St.Kilda after the Saints lost in their local derby against Port Melbourne 7-10. The Mariners go to Moorabbin to see if some of their recent form will come through against the second placed Panthers.
Women’s Division 1
All games are on this Saturday at 3.30pm. Essendon, who are on a roll, travel to Springvale to see if they can dent the record of the undefeated Lions. The Bulldogs will be hoping for some inspiration after losing 13-1 to Springvale, when they are the away team to Malvern. The Braves will be also want to shake off their loss to Doncaster 18-5 and the Dragons host Werribee with three games to go before the break.

Baseball Australia is pleased to announce the 2015 Little League National Championships will be held from 4 to 9 June at the Far North Coast Baseball Association in Lismore, New South Wales, in conjunction with the New South Wales State Government and Lismore City Council.
Little League is the world’s largest youth sports program, and 2015 will mark the ninth year Australia has been a part of the chartered Little League family. The sport continues to grow under the guidance of Baseball Australia and is currently the fastest growing Little League country in the world.
The Championships will feature twenty All-Star Little League teams from across Australia over a six-day tournament. The winning team will receive automatic qualification for the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA.
Baseball Australia Chief Executive, Brett Pickett, believes the Little League pathway is instrumental in growing the sport of Baseball in Australia and getting more participants active and involved:
“Having the New South Wales State Government and Lismore City Council recognise the value of Little League in our community is very encouraging. Baseball Australia are very pleased to take Little League to the Far North Coast and welcome our new partners into the Little League community as we work together to grow the game”.
These partnerships have made it possible to take the event to Lismore for the first time. The National Championships will provide a boost to the local economy, showcase the region as a sporting destination, and provide a chance to reward the loyal Lismore baseball community.
Member for Lismore Thomas George was pleased the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, secured the hosting rights for the 2015 National Little League Championships.
“I congratulate Lismore City Council and the Far North Coast Baseball Association on their successful bid to host the event. This is a win for residents of the Lismore region who are set to benefit from a significant boost in visitors to the area,” Mr George said.
“The Albert Park Baseball and Softball Complex, where the event will be held, is an ideal venue to host a national sporting event such as this, and with most competitors coming from outside the region, hosting the Championships provides Lismore with an opportunity to showcase this wonderful facility, as well as our unparalleled accommodation, hospitality venues, and other world-class tourist attractions on offer here in Lismore,” he said.
Lismore City Council Tourism and Events Manager, Mitch Lowe, said Lismore is delighted to be hosting the Little League Championships in 2015.
“Our City has a long and proud history in baseball and we look forward to showcasing our facilities and wonderful region to all of the competing teams. The Championships will bring more than 770 visitors from outside the region to Lismore, generating in excess of $600,000 in visitor expenditure.”

SYDNEY, 8 December — The Australian Baseball League and Baseball Australia proudly announce the rosters for the 2014 Australia Baseball League All-Star Game, presented by Levi’s®. The game, which pits the World All-Stars against Team Australia, takes place in Melbourne on Wednesday, 17 December 2014 at 7:40pm.
The World All-Stars, comprised of the league’s top international performers, will go into the fourth annual event with a 2-1 win record over Team Australia. However, Australia’s national team enters the contest riding the momentum of their historic upset of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks and near-victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Team Australia Challenge during the 2014 MLB Opening Series at the Sydney Cricket Ground last March.
The 2014 ABL All-Star Game will be broadcast live in Australia and New Zealand on ESPN and on delay to over 70 million households in the US through MLB Network. It will also be seen in over 30 Asia countries on Fox Sports Asia, showcasing Australian baseball talent to a truly global audience.
Team Australia’s side displays a diverse group of both familiar faces and national team newcomers. The pitching staff features young guns Sam Gibbons of the Jet Couriers Melbourne Aces and reliever Aaron Sookee of the Sydney Blue Sox, along with league top ten pitchers Tim Atherton of the Canberra Elite Cavalry, Luke Wilkins and Craig Anderson of Sydney and ace Ryan Searle of the Brisbane Bandits, proudly presented by Welldog.
On offence, Team Australia is supported by outfielder Mitch Dening of the Adelaide Bite, proudly presented by SA Power Networks, whose eight home runs lead the league. The lineup will also include slugger and fellow outfielder David Kandilas of the Blue Sox, who is tied for the league lead with 18 RBIs. The Aussies also have four former Major Leaguers anchoring the batting order in the form of Brad Harman and Justin Huber of the Aces, Alcohol. Think Again Perth Heat mainstay Luke Hughes and Sydney's Trent Oeltjen. Hughes and Huber have seen limited playing time in the first part of the season, while Harman has a strong .306 batting average and five home runs, and Oeltjen is hitting at a .309 clip with four longballs to date.
TEAM AUSTRALIA ROSTER AND BIOS
The World All-Stars team boasts the ABL’s best-performing international players this season from six baseball nations, including the United States, Canada, Taiwan and Korea. The team also features prospects from nine Major League Baseball clubs: the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays. Young catcher/first baseman Kellin Deglan of the Aces/Texas Rangers will also add some pop to the lineup, and sits tied for the ABL RBI lead and in second place on the league’s home run leaderboard.

In an Australian first, the National Junior League Championships will be held from 4th-9th April, 2015, at Surfers Paradise Baseball Club on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The event is supported by City of Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise Baseball Club.
This is the first time the Junior League competition will be held in Australia, following a restructure of the Championship pathway in line with Little League International.
The Championships will feature 16 All-Star Junior League teams from across Australia over the six-day tournament. The winning team will have the opportunity to participate in the Asia Pacific Championships with travel fully funded. The winner of the Asia Pacific Championships will then progress to play in the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan.
BA General Manager, Justin Drew, explained the decision to add Junior League to the baseball pathway in Australia.
“Over the next year, all levels of Little League International will be implemented in Australia. This structure gives more opportunities for players to participate in tournaments locally, nationally and around the world. We are looking forward to seeing how this pathway will impact the growth of baseball throughout Australia," he said.
“The partnership between Baseball Australia and the City of Gold Coast has given us the opportunity to host a major national championship on the Gold Coast and we’re appreciative of it.”
Junior League is an extension of Little League, acting as a bridge to transition from Little League to the next level. It is played on a 80 to 90 foot diamond, pitching from 54 feet, compared with a 60-foot diamond and pitching at 46 feet for Little League.
Tony McPhail, President of the Surfers Paradise Baseball Club said: “We are excited to be hosting a National Championship at our club. After the success of holding the Pan Pacific Baseball games, we are up for the challenge once again.”
Baseball Australia will bring you more information on the National Junior League Championships in early 2015.
