There have been several updates to the Baseball Victoria Board and Executive with the appointment of three new directors including a new President, with new Baseball Victoria CEO, Ritchie Hinton, also commencing this month.

The Board of Baseball Victoria confirms President Meghan Mayman has resigned from her role effective 19 November 2021 and will stay on until Christmas to assist with the final stages of transition as part of the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee.

The Baseball Victoria Board met on Saturday to appoint Andy Rose as the new President following Meghan’s departure, which is part of a seamless, planned transition into the next chapter of Baseball Victoria leadership as we get back to baseball after numerous COVID challenges.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the board as a Director and President, and I would like to thank my fellow Directors, previous CEO Kristie Middleton, interim CEO Gemma Scales, and the entire BV team for their knowledge, time, and energy during this challenging six-month period while managing COVID,” Meghan said.

“It’s been fantastic to work with a dynamic and collegiate group of Directors as we reassessed our strategy and implemented changes to benefit Victorian baseball as a whole and ensure BV is in a good financial and governance position leading up to the VSBL season.”

The BV Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Meghan for her leadership through the difficult pandemic period.

Two other new Directors have been appointed to the board in addition to Andy Rose, with Jennifer Pitson and Brett Mitsch also confirmed on Saturday.

“Congratulations to Andy, Jennifer and Brett on their appointments. Thank you to Grant Weir as chair of the BV Nominations Committee, Amy McCann and Joanna O’Connor as Nominations Committee representatives, and Rob Stanley for the extra assistance throughout the director recruitment process.

Thank you to Sportspeople for their guidance on the recruitment process, and all those who nominated - we were thrilled with the number of interested candidates,” Meghan added.

“Of course, thank you also to the players, umpires, coaches, and most of all the committee members who have shown incredible resilience during these difficult times.

I wish the new Directors and the whole BV community all the best for a bright future.”

We have an excellent opportunity to boost our junior development, get more kids into the game at the t-ball and under-12 levels, and we want to make sure all clubs have the resources to deliver a really good product.”

“By giving an amazing experience to all participants, we can see more kids and adults coming out to play baseball. As a state sporting organisation, we will be working towards these strategic goals and ensuring the proper resources are in place to increase the profile of Victorian baseball and empower our clubs and members to make the most of baseball opportunities.”

Both teams are away this weekend as Bonbeach heads to Berwick and Sandringham takes on Moorabbin.

Pakenham Pumas 6 v Moorabbin Panthers 18

The Panthers scored one more run than in last week's win, taking them just a few runs shy of 40 for the year already.

Moorabbin gave up five runs to Pakenham in the opening frame but put together a seven-run first to take the lead.

By the end of the second, it was a 9-6 ballgame, and the Panthers went on to score five more in the third and a final four in the fourth.

By the end of the third, Berwick was in front 10-3, and in the final frame the Cougars managed another seven while giving up just one more.

Berwick will aim for back-to-back wins at home v Bonbeach while Springvale hosts Pakenham in the next round.

Port Melbourne has a win on the board after a dominant performance.

The Mariners' victory was made possible by a six-run first and seven runs in both the second and third. Werribee scored once in the first and twice in the second.

Congratulations to Victorian Charlie Collins on his commitment to Odessa College in Texas.

The 18-year-old – who represented Team Australia at the 2018 WBSC U15 Baseball World Cup and was named MVP at the 2019 U16 Australian Youth Championship – will become the latest Aussie to link up with the Division I junior college.

Charlie will follow in the footsteps of Victorian utility Conor Myles, Queenslander Liam MacDonald and West Australian Chase Diggins, who are all on the Wranglers’ 2021/22 roster.

Charlie looks forward to chasing his dreams of winning a national title and competing at the highest level. This exciting next step comes after he took part in the Victorian National Showcase Series, earning a spot in April's National Junior Camp in Canberra.

As part of the BV high performance program, Charlie has represented Victoria three times at the Australian Youth Championships, winning MVP at the 2019 U16 nationals after hitting .462 in eight games for Victoria Blue.

A year later he was named U18 hitting champion after going 15-for-29 (.517) with nine RBIs in Geelong.

The Blackburn Orioles premiership winner, who previously played with Ringwood Saints, also took part in the 2017 Australian MLB Invitational and spent time with the Melbourne Aces as a development player, making his ABL debut last December.

Baseball Victoria congratulates Victorian pitcher Josh Ashen on committing to Vernon College!

The 18-year-old Cheltenham Rustlers player, who was part of the National Junior Squad this year, will head to the Texas school next year out of Baseball Victoria Aces Academy.

Josh looks forward to joining the NJCAA Division 1 Chaps after a successful junior career where he represented Southern Mariners charter and Victoria at the Australian Youth Championship.

Josh started playing at age nine and went on to represent Southern Mariners charter and Victoria at the Australian Youth Championship. He was also a U-18 Victorian Schoolboy.

“‘Josh is a versatile athlete with tremendous upside on the mound,” Baseball Victoria Talent Development Manager Damian Shanahan said. “He has shown consistent dedication and commitment to his goal of being a collegiate athlete.”

Victorian catcher-infielder Zak Skinner is currently at Vernon College as well.

Baseball Victoria congratulates Allan de San Miguel on his new job with Kansas City Royals. After many years playing for Team Australia, Melbourne Aces, Sunshine Eagles, and Perth Heat, the Claxton Shield champ will join the KC Major League coaching staff in the 2022 MLB season.

A fan favourite across Victoria and all of Australia, Allan has spent five seasons in the KC minor league system and will now serve as a strategist and bullpen catcher for the Royals. We wish him all the best for his future in this well-earned appointment.

The Tigers started strong with five runs in the first and stayed in front for the rest of the game, although Malvern battle back to come within one.
