YOUTH: QLD 17-13 WA | BOX SCORE 

The Queensland Youth side started the day very strongly, defeating Western Australia 17-13 on Diamond 3.

Queensland opened the scoring in their first inning, with runs coming to Hope Vankan and Hannah Marshall, to give themselves a 2-0 lead.

However, it was during the third and fourth innings where the Queensland girls asserted their authority on the match, piling on a total of 15 runs to lead 17-2.

The standout performers for Queensland include; Tamika Zamora – registering two runs, two hits and three RBI’s, Isabella Ramirez – two runs, two hits and three RBI’s, and Caydence Larmon – two runs, one hit and two RBI’s.

Although, at the bottom of the fourth inning Western Australia put up a gallant effort, hitting 11 of their own runs and reducing the margin to just four.

WA were unable to get an opportunity to complete the comeback as the game finished due to time regulations at the bottom of the fourth.

Ava Dixon was WA’s leading run scorer with three, while Faith Neretlis and Montanna Stirling were also key performers adding two runs each.

 

YOUTH: VIC 1-13 NSW | BOX SCORE 

New South Wales stormed to a convincing 13-1 win when they came up against Victoria in the Youth tournament.

The result looked settled early on, as NSW amassed 12 runs in the first two innings.

Olivia Bonello opened the scoring for New South Wales, following a Tallulah Lewis line drive double.

The scoring of NSW’s runs was evenly spread right throughout the team, with Emma Wallace, Taylor Napier, Rosalie Marcus, Michaela Bonser and Taylor Toni all adding two each.

Victoria’s sole run of the match came at the top of the second innings, when Madeleine Thiel grounded out, yet still allowed Chelsea Stewart to cross home plate.

After both finishing on top of the Youth tournament standings with a 7-1 record, New South Wales and Queensland will battle it out on Saturday for the Gold Medal.

 

YOUTH: WA 1-15 VIC | BOX SCORE 

In what was another one-sided game, Victoria put on a clinical performance against Western Australia.

Victoria sprung out to a 15-0 lead after the first two innings, making it difficult for WA early on.

Keeley Harrison ran in the first of the game for the Vic’s, opening the scoring following a wild pitch from Western Australian Ava Dixon.

Victoria then added another ten runs in the first innings and four more in the second.

Harrison and Maddi Weller were the most influential performers for Victoria, contributing three runs each to the team total.

Western Australia’s only run came in the third inning when Mia Davis scored, following a walk to teammate Amity Collins.

Victoria and Western Australia will once again face off at 9am in tomorrow’s Bronze Medal match.

Victoria finished the Youth pool play third on the standings with a 3-5 record, while WA finished just behind them with a record of 2-6.

 

YOUTH: IND 0-9 QLD | BOX SCORE 

A 9-0 Queensland victory against Indonesia in the last match of the Youth’s #AWC2019 schedule meant they finished top of the standings and will play in tomorrow’s Gold Medal Match against NSW.

However, unfortunately for Indonesia, the loss spelled the end of their 2019 Australian Women’s Championship campaign, in what was their debut appearance.

With Queensland claiming an early first innings lead through Allie Van Peppen, the team went on to add another six runs in the second inning.

Van Peppen, Brianna Ragau and Hope Vankan all contributed two runs each towards Queensland’s total.

Solo pitcher Caydence Larmon also proved to have a very effective game for Queensland by shutting-out Indonesia and pitching all five innings for four strikeouts.

 

OPEN: SA 20-6 QLD | BOX SCORE 

In what probably was South Australia’s best performance of the competition to date, they ran out convincing 20-6 winners over Queensland on Diamond 2.

However, it was Queensland who first jumped out of the box and claimed a 3-0 lead by the end of the first innings.

Madison Tough and Chloe Humphreys opened the scoring for Queensland following a Sophie Marriott line drive single. Luisa Guaci added their third run of the inning shortly after.

The South Australian’s then sprung to life in the second innings, opening their scoring account through Jessica Maslin and Eryn Shipp.

In a match defining period, South Australia piled on a stunning 12 runs at the top of the sixth inning, which gave them a 20-6 lead and therefore the win.

South Australia’s leading run scorers were Maslin with four, and Shipp and Natasha Strapps with three each.

South Australia face a doubleheader tomorrow during Day 7 action with match-ups against Victoria White and Queensland.

 

OPEN: WA 5-3 NSW | BOX SCORE 

In what was the game of the day, Western Australia pipped defending champions New South Wales to a stunning 5-3 come from behind win.

It was all NSW early on, as they rushed to a 3-0 lead in the first innings, thanks to runs from Ticara Geldenhuis, Jordan Richardson and Maddison Heath.

Western Australia added their first run of the match at the top of the third, when a Rebecca Torpy ground out allowed Kaila Borgomastro to cross home plate.

With New South Wales holding a handy 3-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, the game spun of its head when WA clasped the win at the death in a thrilling finale.

Borgomastro reduced the deficit to just one when she scored a run on Megan Everitt’s single. Torpy then levelled the scores between the two sides on Tamara Bosman’s ground ball.

In a climatic seventh inning, WA snatched a two-run lead thanks to Meaghan Haggart and Borgomastro.

NSW had the opportunity to force the game into extra innings with their final bat, however, were unable to do so.

 

OPEN: VICW 8-15 QLD | BOX SCORE 

After their loss earlier in the day to South Australia, Queensland were glad to get back on the winners list when they came up against a threatening Victoria White side.

Despite Queensland adding the first runs of the match in the second innings, Victoria White came out firing at the top of the third, piling on six quick runs.

Vic White’s key performers in the game were Amanda Torrington and with two runs, three hits and two RBI’s and Annette Curnow with two runs.

However, in Queensland’s fourth innings they crunched seven runs to take an 11-8 lead.

The Queenslander’s then added a further four runs in the sixth innings to put the game to bed.

Queensland had a fair spread of run scorers with Shiori Hoshino collecting three, while Madison Tough, Keely Henderson, Luisa Gauci and Courtney Low all added two each.

 

OPEN: VICB 16-2 NSW | BOX SCORE 

In what potentially could be the Gold Medal match-up on Sunday, Victoria Blue’s and New South Wales’ clash definitely didn’t disappoint.

Although the score line appears to have blown out, they game was neck and neck for the majority, with Victoria Blue holding a slender 3-2 advantage heading into the sixth inning before they hit an incredible 13 runs in the final innings of the game.

Victoria Blue coach, Dean Anglin, was incredibly impressed with his side’s performance and the ability to add a lot of runs in minimal time.

“It’s obviously huge for us to be able to score bunches of runs in piles” said Anglin during his post-match interview.

Following the win, Victoria Blue are now undefeated in the Open Women’s tournament, winning eight games from as many starts and are the first team to have booked themselves in Sunday’s Gold Medal match.

The key performers for Victoria Blue in the match include; Abbey Kelly with two runs, four hits and two RBI’s, Emily Devine with one run, two hits and four RBI’s and Leslie Anglin with three runs and two RBI’s.

New South Wales two runs came from the likes of Ticara Geldenhuis and Shai-lee Reeves.

Victoria Blue and New South Wales will both face Western Australia tomorrow in what will be their only game for the day.
