Victoria prevailed 10-2 over Western Australia in a battle of two undefeated teams on Day 6 of the 2023 Australian Women's Championship at Melbourne Ballpark.
The offense wasted no time getting on the board, as Lili Cavanagh doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run in the first inning.
Three more runs came in the third with a bases-loaded walk, groundout, and sacrifice fly. WA scored one in the fourth and another in the fifth but Victoria added six across the last few innings.
Abbey McLellan had an RBI double in the fourth and Shae Lillywhite picked up a base hit to bring Lily Bell-Tanner and Jasmine Bentley home after their leadoff singles.
Three base hits, a hit by pitch, and two errors saw Victoria score three more to end the game. The team collected 13 hits and gave up just four, with two hits apiece for Jamie Bastian, Bentley, Bell-Tanner, McLellan, and Lillywhite. Abbey Kelly, Allie Bebbere, and Cavanagh had one hit each.
Winning pitcher Maddy Patrick went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking zero. Gabby Bevan threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Now 6-0, Victoria will be the home team for the gold medal game against WA, set for Thursday at 5pm. Head down to the ballpark to cheer on our women's baseball superstars or follow on GameChanger/livestream.
