The 2021 National Showcase Series – Victoria wrapped up on Wednesday following a two-day skills showcase and seven-day tournament. 80 athletes across the U16 and U18 age groups took part in the high performance event, which served as a valuable replacement to the cancelled 2021 Australian Youth Championship.
The final standings were: U16 Mosquitoes (5-4), U18 Hornets (5-4), U16 Catalinas (4-5) and U18 Spitfires (4-5).
Showcase data collection was standardised nationally and will be used in the selection of showcase participants for the U16 and U18 National Junior Squads. Player performance at the showcase will also be used as one component of evaluation for potential invites to the 2021 Baseball Victoria Aces Academy.
Baseball Victoria Talent Development Manager Damian Shanahan is pleased with the players’ dedication and hard work over the course of the showcase.
“Our U16 and U18 athletes were determined to improve and make the most of the showcase,” Shanahan said. “We were able to gather valuable data and give players a platform to showcase their skills as they keep working toward their baseball goals. I have no doubt these players will continue to make progress in the future, and we look forward to continuing our high performance programs.”
