U16 – New South Wales
18-2 South Australia
New South Wales took an early lead against South Australia
and never looked back, claiming an 18-2 victory on Diamond 3 to begin the day.
Every player in the New South Wales starting lineup claimed either a hit or an
RBI in a complete offensive performance. Jack Lee and Hayden Lyberopoulos had
three RBI each, while leadoff hitter and third baseman Daniel Bannon had two
RBI to go with his three hits. New South Wales only gave up three hits on the
day, with Cody Godbold, Kobe Kunce and Luke Livian combining for three shutout
innings after SA tacked on a pair of runs in the second. Zac Heintze-Unger, Zac
Stroud and Jasper Clark claimed South Australia’s three hits.
U16 – Victoria Blue
12-11 Victoria White
Victoria White skipped out to a 9-3 lead, but couldn’t hold
on against their Victorian counterparts, as Victoria Blue snuck home 12-11.
Henry Hayman continued his solid tournament thus far with another three hits
and an RBI, while Damon Hill and leadoff man Mitch Homfray had two RBI each.
Zac Skinner had a monster day at the plate for Vic Blue, going 3-for-4 with
four RBI. Reece Longstaff chipped in with a pair of RBI, while Fraser Smith
claimed two hits. River Stevens-Dobby was solid in his starting role, striking
out four and only conceding two earned runs in his four innings.
U16 – Queensland 9-2
New South Wales Country
Queensland made their presence felt early, and New South
Wales Country couldn’t quite string enough hits together as they fell 9-2 to
the Bandits. Patrick Day struck out four and only gave up the one earned run in
his four innings of work for Queensland, while with bat in hand, Angelo Natale
proved a tough out for the second day in a row, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Shortstop
Seth McClelland also hit well, with two RBI to go with his two hits. Tom
Newbold was the only NSW Country hitter to claimed two hits, while Lachlan Dean
picked up the team’s only RBI of the ballgame.
U16 – Western
Australia 14-2 Australian Capital Territory
Western Australia scored early and often, and kept the ACT
at bay, recording a 14-2 win on Diamond 3 to end the day. Bailey Curtis picked
up two hits for the ACT, while Hamish Lambert and Matt Teague drove in the two
ACT runs. Caiden Nicoletto had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with
two RBI and a triple. Dan Carter also had a triple for WA to go with his 2RBI. Both
Nick Riley and Byron Armstrong had great days on the mound for WA, with Riley
not giving up a hit in his two innings.
U18 – Victoria Blue
11-1 Australian Capital Territory
Victoria Blue kept the scoreboard ticking over against the
ACT, as they eventually ran out 11-1 winners in the opening game on Diamond 1
today. Jarryd Dale became the first player at the tournament to hit a home run
on Diamond one, while each player in the Victoria Blue lineup claimed a hit.
Jackson Boyd again showed his quality, with five strikeouts and only one earned
run in his 3.2 innings. Julian Paramanov had three hits on the day for the ACT,
while catcher Mitch Edwards had two. Mark Zhang drove in the ACT’s only run of
the ballgame in the fourth.
U18 – Queensland 19-9
New South Wales Country
Queensland’s early scoring was capped off by an eight run
fourth inning as they defeated New South Wales Country 19-9 in the first game
on Diamond 2 this morning. James Franco and Ryota Kusomoto each had outstanding
games with bat in hand, claiming five hits and a mammoth seven RBI between
them. Luke Turner had another four RBI as he continued his good tournament. For
Country New South Wales, two talented hitters both showed their worth as Rixon
Wingrove and Jake Amos both had three RBI. Minami Matsumoto had two hits and
two RBI, while Josh Wingrove was strong on the mound, only giving up one earned
run from his three innings of relief.
U18 – South Australia
11-6 New South Wales
South Australia were up early and never looked back,
defeating New South Wales 11-6 on Diamond 2. John Inglis threw strongly in
relief for South Australia, striking out one and not giving up any runs in his
3.2 innings on the bump. Mason Clavell and Jarrod Miller each nailed big
triples for SA, while Clavell and Curtis Mead both had two RBI. Rhys Dewick was
the only player to claim multiple hits for NSW, while Mitch Drive picked up two
RBI.
U18 – Victoria White
vs. Western Australia
In the final game of the night, Western Australia took an
early lead but couldn’t maintain it, as Victoria White came back to claim a 5-1
win. Huge Leropoulos was fantastic on the mound for Vic White, throwing five
relief innings of shutout baseball and keeping Vic White in the ballgame.
John-Paul Callil hit well again, claiming two hits and an RBI for Vic White
while Kyle Morrison and Liam Madden drove in a run each. Jess Williams, Jett
Wright and Josh Greenham all had two hits each for WA, while David John claimed
the only RBI of the night.
