Baseball Victoria Hall of Fame Administrators: Peter Dihm

Peter Dihm (administrator)

Peter Dihm has a 65-year career in baseball and during this period has been one of Australian baseball’s leading administrators.  Peter started in baseball as a 14-year old at Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club in 1961.

He moved to Ivanhoe Baseball Club in the VBA competition, where he played until they folded and he returned to Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club in 1970, where he spent the next 45 years as a player, coach and Manager.  He was an active player until 1986.

He held various committee and coaching and managing positions at Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club from president, senior vice president, treasure, committee member, manager of second and third nine, as well as base and bench coach for the first nine from 1971 to 2011.

Peter’s Administration experience stretches back to the early 60’s when took on task as preparing Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club’s first constitution.  In the late 1980’s when there was talk of a national league to replace the Claxton Shield a group from Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club were asked to enter a team and Peter became part of the ownership group of the Melbourne Bushrangers in the Australian Baseball League which Peter was the founding chairman.

He was president of the Victorian Baseball Association between 1988 and 2008 and president of Baseball Victoria from 2008 to 2009 after a successful merger with the Victorian Provincial Baseball League produced a unified governance structure.

Peter was a director of the Australian Baseball Federation between 1990 and 2000.  He was also president of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League in 2008 and between 2013 and 2019, chairman of its pennant committee in 2011 and 2012 and a member of the pennant committee from 2020 to present.  Since they were inaugurated Peter has been a member of Baseball Australia’s Hall of Fame committee and heritage committee. 

Peter was the Claxton Shield and Melbourne Aces road executive officer from 2009 to 2014 and the baseball representative on the Victorian Olympic Committee from 1990 to 2000 and the Australian Olympic Committee from 1990 to 1997. 

Peter was executive officer of the Australian Under 19 team in 1990 and 1995 and the Under 16 team in 1994.  He is a life member of Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club, the Melbourne Winter Baseball League, Baseball Australia and Baseball Victoria.  In 2010 Peter received the Baseball Australia Award of Excellence and the Australia Sports Medal for baseball in 2000. The Baseball Victoria Division 1 club championship award is named the Peter Dihm Shield.
