QLD and SA secure first wins at Under 16 Championships

The sun was shining at the Under 16 National Youth Championships presented by Rawlings in Sydney today. All games were played at the Moorebank Baseball-Softball Club in Hammondville to ensure play continued and Queensland and South Australia both put wins on the board.

Country New South Wales v Victoria Blue

In a low scoring game Victoria Blue defeated Country New South Wales, 2-1. Vic Blue put two runs on the board, one in the 3rd and one in the 4th to secure the lead. A triple from New South Wales player Jake Amos, and a sacrifice fly gave NSW a run but not enough to take the W.

Queensland v Western Australia

Another close game saw both teams score the majority of their runs in late innings, with Queensland defeating Western Australia 6-4. Queensland added five runs to their one in the 7th and although WA attemped a late comeback with four runs, QLD were victorious.

South Australia v Victoria White

Playing their second game of the tournament, South Australia defeated Victoria White 4-1 for their first win of the championships. Alex Smith pitched 4.2 innings for SA only giving up two hits, before Blayke McMillan came into to pitch the last 2.1, giving up no hits and no runs. 

New South Wales v ACT

With their second win of the week, New South Wales had a big win over ACT 12-2. With a six run lead by the second, New South Wales dominated the game from the start. Jacob Krkovski from New South Wales had two hits from three at bats scoring two runs. 

From tomorrow all games will resume at Blacktown International Sportspark, dependent on the weather, with Gold Medal games still on Sunday January 18th.
