Nominations

Baseball Victoria Awards

Winners of VSBL Player of the Week Awards are selected by Baseball Victoria office staff. Club Championships are awarded on the basis of performance by eligible teams. The Baseball Victoria History & Recognition Working Group nominates life members to the Baseball Victoria Board, which then presents the nominees to clubs for ratification at the annual general meeting. All other awards are chosen by members of the Baseball Victoria History & Recognition Working Group.

Baseball Victoria History and Recognition Working Group

The working group is made up of a chairperson, Baseball Victoria staff member (administrator), and members of the baseball community who nominate after a call for expressions of interest.

Nominees

  • Participants in Victorian baseball in 2023 and affiliated clubs of Baseball Victoria

Process

  • Nominations will be accepted from the Baseball Victoria Board, staff, affiliated clubs, member parents, registered baseball players, scorers, umpires and anyone else associated with BV clubs.
  • Clubs, coaches and members are encouraged to nominate themselves in categories they feel they have achieved success.
  • Nominations must be received by Baseball Victoria no later than close of business on the closing date.
  • Nominations must be received through the process outlined on the Baseball Victoria website.
  • Information regarding nominees to be submitted to Baseball Victoria as per the requirements, including a statement of up to 100 words to support the nomination.
  • Baseball Victoria reserves the right to amend nominations to ensure nominees are in the correct category.
  • Depending on the number of nominations received, Baseball Victoria reserves the right to combine awards into a single category where there is a small number of nominations or split awards into dual categories where there is a large number of nominations.
  • Baseball Victoria reserves the right to amend the process and criteria outlined in these guidelines as it sees fit.

Criteria

VSBL Club Championship Awards

VSBL Club Championships are awarded for Premier League, State League, and other grades (lower grades) based on the combined number of wins of the first nine, second nine, third nine and fourth nine and masters and women’s teams. A Baseball Victoria Champion Club is also awarded based on the average number of wins per team across all competitions.

Club of the Year Awards

Winners of the Baseball Victoria Club of the Year Awards promote and demonstrate positive values, respond to community and social needs, and provide opportunities for participation and involvement in baseball. Winter and summer clubs are eligible to nominate.

Summer Player of the Week Awards

Each week, a standout player will be recognised for their achievements across senior men, senior women, and junior competitions. Winners will demonstrate exemplary performance, leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to baseball.

Coach of the Year Awards

Winners of the Coach of the Year Award promote and demonstrate positive values, develop competitive baseball players, develop fundamental baseball skills, and provide a safe and inclusive environment for all players. Coaches can be nominated from teams participating in the senior men’s and women’s competitions, junior competition and masters competition.

Volunteer of the Year Awards

The winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award demonstrates the ideals of volunteerism through dedication to their club and baseball in the capacity as a coach, administrator, junior coordinator or club person.

Outstanding Contribution Awards

This award recognises volunteers who, through their personal contributions, have enhanced their club, coaching, umpiring or scoring. Up to 20 service awards will be bestowed in any year. The History & Recognition Working Group will determine the exact number of awards in any year after consideration of submissions. The preference is an even spread of awards across men’s, women’s and junior baseball, general service to baseball and activities that include coaching, administration, umpiring, scoring and groundskeeping.

The criteria are a person, past or present, who has made a significant short-term contribution to the progress and development of baseball at club level, coaching, umpiring or scoring.

Nominations will be accepted from clubs, the Baseball Victoria Board and the Baseball Victoria History &  Recognition Working Group.

Service to Baseball Awards

This award recognises volunteers who, through their personal contributions, have enhanced the development of baseball. Up to ten service awards will be bestowed in any year. The History & Recognition Working Group will determine the exact number of awards in any year after consideration of submissions. The preference is an even spread of awards across men’s, women’s and junior baseball, general service to baseball and activities that include playing, coaching, administration, umpiring, scoring and groundskeeping.

The criteria are a person, past or present, who has made a significant long-term contribution to the progress and development of baseball at club level, coaching, umpiring or scoring.

Considerations:

  • The length of time given to the contribution and/or service.
  • The quality of impact the contribution has made to baseball.
  • The number of people affected by the contribution.

Nominations will be accepted from clubs, the Baseball Victoria Board and the Baseball Victoria History & Recognition Working Group.

Life Membership

Baseball Victoria Life Membership is conferred upon members who have ‘rendered distinguished service to baseball in Victoria, where such service is deemed to have assisted with advancement of baseball in Victoria' under clause 8 of the Baseball Victoria Constitution.

Previous nominees have rendered a contribution to baseball at the Victorian level or elite/national/professional level for more than 10 years and where there has been contributions as a player, coach or administrator to State Level programs or teams.

Nominations are received from member clubs and members of the Victorian baseball community.
