Queensland snapped New South Wales' streak of two consecutive U25 National Championships with a 6-5 win over the NSW side in the title game. Victoria claimed the tournament's bronze medal, while South Australia finished fourth.
A special congratulations to Wes De Jong from VIC who was named golden arm for his magnificent pitching performance throughout the tournament. Victoria went down in a close one to NSW 4-5 in their final game. The highlight of Victoria's tournament was when they came from behind to defeat South Australia 8-7 in an extra-inning ballgame that kept everyone on their toes. SA took an early lead and VIC trailed by five runs by the fourth inning. The visiting VIC side mounted a late comeback that started with one run in the top of the eighth inning. The next frame, Jon Bannister led off the inning with a triple. By inning's end, four runs came home on base hits by Hayden Godbold, Billy Findlay, Harry Levy and Jeramy Young. Tied at 6-6, the game went to the tenth inning and tiebreaker rules. Both sides got on the board with a run apiece in the tenth inning, so the tiebreaker scenario continued into the eleventh inning. In the top of the eleventh, Young singled in a pair of runs to give VIC an 8-6 lead.
Baseball Victoria congratulates all of the Victorian team and coaching staff on a well played tournament. Congratulations to Queensland and everyone involved.
