Baseball Victoria
21 April 2022

Victorian infielder Bronwyn Gell has been named the most valuable player of the 2022 Australian Women’s Baseball Championship in Adelaide.

Gell went 11-for-25 with 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored in six opening round games for the runner-up. She doubled four times, walked nine and stole 11 bases while only striking out once.

The infielder was also collected the fielding award after going perfect on 19 chances in the preliminary games and helping turn one double play.

Victorian outfielder Morgan Doty was named batting champion. Doty, the pitching champion at the 2019 event, went 14-for-18 (.777) with 14 RBIs and eight runs scored in six opening round games. She stole six bases.

Victorian pitcher Allie Bebbere claiming the pitching champion award. Bebbere tossed seven scoreless innings in two opening round games. The right-hander retired 25 batters, including six on strikeouts.

Seven Spirit of the Game awards – one for each team – were also handed out.

The award recognises those that make the sport great beyond what they do on the field, and reminds us that in sport, one team wins and one team doesn’t. There are no losers.

Lisa Nakashio (New South Wales), Doty (Victoria), Yuki Ishikawa (Western Australia), Riordan Bradley (Queensland Maroon), Gemma Letton (South Australia), Chelsy Hughes (Queensland Development) and Belinda Major (Australian Capital Territory) were recipients of the awards.
